[mod edit]. I'm a web developer, I make 60k+/year yet I'm still reluctant to try this game because of the box sale + sub. In fact, I just spent $150 on ArcheAge alpha, yet I'm not convinced I want to get ESO. If it were B2P, then I'd get it.
I hear ya. I own a restaurant, successful enough to earn a very good living, and I wouldn t put a cent down on this game because of it s sub.
I totally agree-
I am Sy Sperling. President of the Hair Club For Men (and also a client)... I make millions of dollars a year selling a fine , quality product... I wont pay a sub for this.
I agree with the B2P and that there should be an alternative to the current veteran grind. Playing the other factions should be an option but not mandatory! Also you can get the game for as low as 26 bucks (google kinguin). Even if you play it just for the one month it is worth checking out imho!

what I mean by that, is being forced to pay a sub fee for a product which doesnt have a quality that deserving of that fee. So its punishing.
According to whom, you? I do find it worth 15$ q no the. That's why I'm playing it. Once I don't find it worth 15, I'll leave. I don't get people that complain. About the sub fee. What is $15 a month for entertainment? I pay more then that to see a damn movie anymore. I have no issue paying a fee if I'm having fun with the game. And I am. If its not worth it to you, head out and leave us to play lol.
First, Subscriptions are guaranteed income, meaning they can/should guarantee content. If they go B2P or F2P then cash shops are guaranteed which leads to additional complaints. Until subscriptions aren't high enough to continue development of new content, stay sub.
I don't quite understand the need to remove levels. It isn't as though levels are barriers to skills, as with many MMOs, they're simply another means of progression. You don't need to be level 15 to open up a certain sword skill, it's your sword level that determines that. I suppose gear is the biggest thing locked behind levels. If it wasn't levels, though, it'd be some other form of progression to prevent the use of the best gear at the earliest levels, since then the P2W vultures would come out of the woodwork.

I'm convinced, some people just want p2w. They want to be able to convert their cash to gold.
Why comment on the content (or from what I have been reading, lack there of) if you have not played the game? Just curious.
As far as going to a buy to play model? Horrible idea. If it's buy to play, then content will be gated behind fees.
I bought gw2 at launch as well as countless others (even those that shouldn't be counted, like darkfall) and I prefer at subscription model because it gives me more of a reason the play the game. The f2p model sucks. I have yet to find a good f2p game, aside from AO. I believe adding a barrier to entry keeps those who wish to not commit out. It also ensures constant cash flow with a studio giving them more reason to produce content.
Now to the comment of f2p provides more.. Simply not true. Moving to a f2p model after being subscription based absolutely can cause a large influx of cash, but is certainly not substanable in the long run. It's why games like wow haven't gone free to play, but games like rift and lotr have. Simply put, lotr and rift were failing and needed cash, the f2p with cash shop worked to keep them solvent. I do not know their current numbers.
As far as removing levels goes? This makes sense, except for it doesn't. Levels are simply an expression of the amount of experience you have gathered, and with that experience you it dictates the wield levels in order to prevent over equipping and trivializing content. And, as such, seems like a great idea in a zone based game. However, if you are unhappy with your current zone because it does not feel challenging enough, you may advance to another zone, of higher level, and accomplish quest objectives there. Seems like a good idea to me.

Or the whole world can be built for a single default level, and each zone have both challenging content and casual content. That makes all zones endgame content for the hard core as well as casuals. Exploration would be more meaningful since you won't be hand guided from zone to zone by artificial levels.

Actually I have occasionally run into very wealthy people who are only interested in f2p games because they believe their real life wealth should also grant them in game advantages. It's not exclusively the "entitled free loaders" that people on this site love to rail against who advocate for the f2p model.
Without Mouse Click control more skills would be usless . its allready a pain in the butt using WASD to move while trying to click 1 2 3 4 5 skills then try to reach for you quick slots F1 F2 ect many times you have no choice but to stop moving alltogether to cast a ability

So don't pay it. You have options.
You should never feel obligated to pay for something you don't need, and don't feel deserves your money. I, at this point, love the game, and gladly pay for it. If I come to the point where that opinion changes, I quit paying and quit playing.

I like the sub fee, it seems I spend much more less this way in my mmo's.
