Watchdogs 30fps, no 1080p for consoles

asmkm22asmkm22 Member Posts: 1,788

Ubisoft has clarified today that Watchdogs won't run at 1080p/60fps for either "next-gen" console.  I just can't help but feel like this console generation is going to be much shorter than the last one.

Watchdogs, in particular, kind of shows how surprised game dev's seem to be at the anemic system specs all around.  Compare the original E3 footage, where the game was supposedly running on specs that Ubi was expecting for next-gen, with the E3 footage from 2013, and the drop in detail and stuff going on around you is quite noticeable.

I honestly believe Ubisoft was caught off-guard by the limitations of both XBox and PS4, and they can't be the only developer or publisher in the same boat.

The big problem here is that it's very likely the PC version will get screwed over as a result.  Something tells me that even the highest PC settings won't look like the 2012 E3 version, with lots of people and cars and weather effects and stuff going on.  We might get the higher resolution textures, but that's it.

I really hope this isn't a sign of things to come for the next 10 years.

While I doubt it will be like the 2012 version, that comparison is pretty bad. The time of day is different and lighting will make a huge difference on how good a game looks and it won't always be windy. Also the amount of cars and people is fine from the latest videos I've seen.

We won't see what this generation can do until they move on from last gen.

its kind of a joke isnt it ?
i mean its new tech and everyone has a 1080 tv or monitor these days....
so how come these new console cant even hit 60 fps on that resolution is just i big disapointment -_-

Glad i went to pc gaming many years ago...

I hope and pray that the PC version looks like the 2013 version with a very well equiped PC. I couldn't care less if a console got up and made my coffee and brought it to me. PC is the only platform i care about

But as I stated, it's unlikely the PC version will look much different than the consoles.  They never did during the last generation, so there's little reason to expect differently this one.

Next gen consoles stuck on sub HD for another decade is quite disappointing.

If the game is good enough to attract a good fanbase, modders will fix the graphics and tweak things for it to be perfect on PCs. Until then:

    Consoles has to die.

Consoles started be serious bottlenecks at the time PS3 and x360 came out.

The PS2 era and earlier werent that aweful compared to the PC though.

I believe the reason is price point.

Having  proprietary and close ended gaming consoles touting exclusive's is just bad for gaming period.

From a gamer's point of view of course.

Consoles are a huge bottleneck to gaming innovation and the sooner they die out the better.

Ill probably still play it on PS4 instead. But that means i will wait for a price drop if im getting the inferior product. 30fps is unacceptable in the so called "next gen" dated consoles. Besides mmos i usually only play PC games that support modding unless its something else that i'd play with friends. My PC wont run Watchdogs at 60fps anyways and Ubisoft dont support mods so ill stick to the console version (after a price drop)

I didn't think they would be able to do it since the systems are still new and companies haven't learned the tricks to programming them.

Once companies actually learn how to use the DDR5 in the PS4, everything will be 1080p and easily hit 60FPS. With the One, they are going to need to be cloud based games and push as much off to cloud computing as possible because the hardware just isn't that great, even with the upcoming units that wont have the Kinect and its 6% resource drain, the DDR3 is going to hamper all next-gen games with its low memory bandwidth cap.

My gut feeling told me not to jump into this console's generation and I guess I'll never second-guess my gut feeling ever again.

Pretty disappointing to throw that much money at a piece of gaming hardware that's completely locked in spec wise for the next...whatever years and to get bleh performance and eye-candy.

You DID see the "recommended" system specs for PC for this game right?  My system is maybe 3 years old and on paper it sounds like crap compared to what the recommended specs are.

PS4 plays most of its games on 1080P though, just some games I think is at 900P such as Watch Dogs.  Other than that its really cuz of the processors, the RAM and Graphics cards are fine. They have like 8 gigs of ram (GDDR5 for PS4) and a amd graphics card equivalent of a 560 GTX.

Eh, in this day and age, 1080 at 60fps should be pretty much easily-achievable for most games.  As I mentioned in the first post, I think a lot of developers were probably as surprised as the players when they realized the next-gen consoles can't reliably handle that.

And for the guy who said just wait until developers figure out how to use the new memory and stuff...  sorry, but that tech isn't really "new" here.  It's been fairly standard for all but the budget graphics cards for several years now.  That argument makes more sense for the XBox, though, with the ESRAM, where it may take some time for developers to find work-arounds for the weird component.

This post is trolling if I ever saw it, this is so false its about 2 years old.. Some of you people aren't happy  unless you want to troll an ruin a game and make people scared of it before its released!!!   Test the game and see for your self..!!! I have on Xbox one!! ITS FINE!@!

I see you have never played some of the new Gen, some are amazing looking, and they are pretty much a PC now a days, so get your facts straight, I love my PC, but I like my consoles and I see the power  of the new ones, I think some of you don't have one and read false BS on the net...  So this posts makes me laugh . If you don't have a console your missing out, I see no issues with it at all, and I been in the industry for many years, game and produce both PC, Console and Mobile games.

They aren't that crazy.  The CPU and memory recommendations are bit higher than normal, but the GPU would have been mid-range 3 years ago.  The specs actually look very similar to what the Xbox One and the PS4 have (other than the higher CPU clock speeds).

Essentially, you could probably go buy a new desktop off the shelf at Best Buy for $500, throw in a gtx 760 for another $200, and you'd be well ahead of the curve.

I think both consoles and pc gaming have contributed to innovations in the industry. To shun one or the other is an oversight.

The nvidia tech demo looked well upgraded, but we'll have to wait and see if it can match E3 2012. it's understandable sicne it's being developed for last, next gen and pc.

And while i'm not a "gfx/resolution/fps" whore, it's abit sad that consoles still can't push the 2 of those easily. I was expecting atleast 1080p for the ps4, but even that's proving hard for some titles. I think Infamous SS pulled it off thanks to being next gen only.

I feel like with the number of games I purchase yearly, I make up for the fact that my PC cost far more than a console.

Steam sales end up saving me SO much money on games that console players are ultimately paying $59.99 for FOREVER.

GreenManGaming for instance has 20-25% off coupons that work for most every title out there (Watch Dogs included).  Owning a PC and getting your games much cheaper, and being able to play them at higher resolutions with better graphics...there is absolutely no downfall other than the upfront price that can be negated IMO with retail game savings.

Has nothing to do with consoles.  The problem is the developer.  Anyone who has actually played an mmorpg knows that some devs simply cannot create a game that makes efficient use of system resources.

I would be very surprised if hardly anyone here could get watch dogs on PC to run at 60fps 1080p without requiring a card or pair of cards worth the total cost of a ps4 or xbone.
