TSW crashes after last update

Sevenstar61Sevenstar61 Member UncommonPosts: 1,686

I cannot play TSW after last update. I never had any problems with the game until last update.

Now game crashed after character select loading screen. It crashes or to desktop with comments:

- driver failed and reset or

- TSWDX11LiveWin32 tsw-v1.8@445090 has stop working.

or it hard crashes and computer restarts.

Things I did:

- reinstalled full game

- installed January driver 332.21 (forum recommended) - did not work so reinstalled the latest 335.23.

- change settings to dirextX -9 - did not work.

I have Alienware Area 51 desktop Intel Core i7 CPU X980 @3.3 GHz with geForce DTX 580, 12 GB Memory, Windows 7 64b

Any suggestions welcomed....

This problem has been with the game in one form or another since launch. I, myself, have one PC on which the game absolutely refuses to run with any stability. Sometimes it'll run for ten minutes, sometimes an hour; inevitably, it will always crash. So I've simply taken to never playing it on that particular PC.

I recall having more success running TSW under DX9 than DX11 on the problem PC, and using a significantly older driver. Since you mention you've already tried those avenues, how about tuning some of the visual settings lower? There's also a memory switch you can pass to the executable which some people have had success with in the past (you'll have to check TSW's forums for the specifics). In another game, I've had success dealing with random blackouts by underclocking the GPU, so that might be worth a shot. Maybe it's as simple as reseating your graphics card.

Whatever the solution, you can be sure you're going to need to try a dozen different things--and even then you might still find yourself with an unstable game. Good luck.

My frustration comes from fact that I had absolutely no problem with running the game before. It's like somehow something happened in one day.  Weird. I emailed support and sent them dxdiag. Maybe they can figure something out.

I played with settings as well with resolution. At first I thought it was working, but few seconds after screen loaded and I was actually in game it crashed anyway.
