Combat Style

I'm just checking into ArcheAge for the first time and have a couple of questions:

 

1)  Does the game have "action" combat?

 

2)  Is there a !@#$!@# dodge feature?

    I haven't played, but from what I understand the combat is most comparative to Guild Wars 2.

     

    Basically you tab target your enemy and you can move around for some abilities, you can't for others, and some you don't want to move as the point of the ability is to build up an effect while staying in one spot.

     

    There is also no dodge/block.

    From what I've seen it's nothing a hundred other MMORPGs haven't done before... Same mechanics, new skin, nothing really to see here in this day and age. I don't mean to come down so hard on the game, but after experiencing the much better combat systems on the rise, the original combat system has become mediocre at best.

    It's pretty much traditional tab target style.

    From what I've experienced the combat is a bit better than truly classic MMO combat.
    For example, in the starting area there are these harpy-like creatures that use ranged attacks.
    Before their spells landed on me I would move out of the way and thereby "dodging" the attack.
    I need to play around more to see what's different.
    Honestly I don't know if players can be arsed later on or if one of the +100 combinations can be created to specialize.

    Sandbox means open world, non-linear gaming PERIOD!

    Subscription Gaming, especially MMO gaming is a Cash grab bigger then the most P2W cash shop!

    Combat system itself is not bad. The problem is that its not balanced in a slightest, there are alot of oneshots going on (with single nuke casters can do twice amount of damage than health character has on cap) and some builds are basically "spam one button ftw"

    There is a classical tab target combat. No dodge or w/e.

    There are also lots of skills and combo builds based on "weakness -> exploit" mechanics but...while it sounds and look interesting in terms of variety, it tends to pigeonhole you into specific rotations and specific combinations, at the end limiting your options and making it quite shallow.

    It ain't bad but definitely nothing noteworthy about the game. The game is fairly generic asian MMO and well below quality of western mainstream titles such as ESO or Wildstar.

    Check out RU version for yourself, I doubt Trion will do any major re-works on the game.

    Combat is good old tab and I for one like it. Unlike most of these new mmo the game has collision detection. Spells do not go through objects plus it's a skill based system with combos and talents.

    collision detection is a complete waste for tab target auto hit non dodge combat...

    No block button...kind equals gg for me. I can't imagine seeing a big two handed w/e about to hit me and only being able to run like we used to.

    Agreed 100% - ESO's combat was just sooo bad IMO.

    Combat can be pretty fast-paced in AA. It is the older style tab-targeting, but with combos and whatnot, it feels good. It's definitely not groundbreaking, but I also personally am not a fan of the newer arcade or action style combat systems. They make me feel like I cannot think for myself by showing giant red blobs on the ground to stay away from, etc. Meh is what I say to those.

    Hey, surprise! "Free-form" targeting like we have seen in tera and in ESO are just a huge box around a character and when you hover over this rectangle with your mouse, use a spell - it fires at that huge box! It really is the same. Look beyond it.

    Wether there is only a lock-on mechanic like in all previous MMOs or a "soft-lock" / "free-form" system it truly is the same. Nothing of these two mechanics require skill to play. I would rather use the old mechanics than having the illusion of aiming at someone whose box size around his character is a huge as an entire house.

    As long as there are no FPS-like tiny hitboxes with increased dmg or healing taken when hitting certain areas, I really do not care.

    If it would have any GW2 arcade shit i woulnt even be looking at AA...
    Its the good old whack a mole healing ! + Tab Target and nuking.

    What anoys me the most about some mmo's using the Tera / ESO style targeting for example is aim at a person who walks back on low health and another person stands before him.
    Now you cant hit him anymore as he disapeared from your aim...

    AA made the right decision in that department, and no more console 5 button bars either :)

    Yeah , I tried to like ESO combat , but it was just too clunky for me , although I know there are peeps that like it. And while Archeage's combat isn't perfect , it certainly feels more fast fluid and satisfying especially the Combo system as you already pointed out :)

    Wildstar is not tab targeting, but it's still even more 11222333344455 spam as hard you can. Well atleast this were my feelings in pvp. Since enemies have like 4.5k and ur skills do like 200 dmg

    Cambat is tab target but skills chain together, like teras just its tab target but its really well done. There are balance issues. but they get addressed in patch 1.0 so dont let that deter you.

    Don`t let combat deter you alone though, Archeage has so many things that make the game fun. I`m playing on russian servers right now, and i cannot wait. there is so much to do. i played all day today at level 32 and didnt do any quest. just sandboxed all day and now im lvl 34 (it is slower than straight questing EXP wise) But the game isn`t about rushing to max level which is something i love, It makes the leveling experience a journey in it`s own.

    Its all been done before!!  The tab targeting, the "action" combat.  Does anyone really feel elite because the spam 12342341234 on there mouse to swing a sword or whatever and do specials?

    Until there are wires running into your head, reading your mind, guess what - its been done before!  Your going to push the F#ck out of some buttons to make your avatar do sh!t, its that simple.

    I want a huge world with freedom; give me that with any old combat system.

    Have you not followed the game at all? You can do w.e you want in archeage. you barely have to kill mobs apart from from ones attacking your ship.
