With 6 weeks to launch, Wildstar has yet to make a spot on VGChartz (http://www.vgchartz.com/preorders/).
This game needs to candidly look at itself in the mirror and go Buy to Play , at a minimum, or Free to Play.
It's a decent looking game. Telegraphing was a stupid idea to mandate, but the whole sci-fantasy theme is very welcome. Many people will likely play, just not for a monthly fee.
Other stuff like like instanced housing isn't really P2P content, but it is certainly suitable for F2P!
Consider the request Carbine / NCSoft. It might save your neck with this game (and cover up bad decisions).

Telegraphing is a fun change... gives it a moba feeling.
They can always try as a P2P and change payment scheme later on just like numerous other MMOs.
..Cake..
If they announce something like this at this point, the whole company reputation will be ruined and i, for one, will cancel my pre-order.
I honestly think it has very good chances of surviving as a p2p. More then TESO actually.
The chart you linked made me felt like an old man btw. Nearly all games are console games. Or console games with pc support. There is no "pc only" game in that list as far as i can see. Sigh.. Console gaming keeps ruining pc gaming.
Stages of a new mmo: 1) It's just beta. It still has plenty of time before release. 2) It just launched. Give it time. WoW wasn't built in a day. 3) We don't need you anyway. 4) F2P announced. 5)Huge influx of players. 6) Look how much has changed. 7) Cash shop is the only thing developed lately. 8) It has been a long journey and we thank everyone who was part of it. Shutting down in 3 months. (Courtesy of Robokapp.)
too late for what ??
So, did ESO have a successful launch? Yes, yes it did.By Ryan Getchell on April 02, 2014.

Or, they could invest more in marketing if they think that the game is good, but it does not have enough exposure.
If the game sucks, business model is not going to save it.
Wildstar is an unknown title for many people, that doesn't mean it must turn F2P in order to gain popularity.
I would much prefer a game like TESO or SWTOR to be as the same level of quality of Wildstar and become the next big MMO for me but unfortunately both those games despite their popularity due to IP, fall short as a MMO. SWTOR we all know the results and TESO if it doesn t get their act together walks the same path. Wildstar does not, it's actually the best MMO I've seen since WoW Burning Crusade in my opinion.
The popularity of the game will come in due time as more people realize how fun it is to play it and how much content they have to keep them subbed.
They have the content, all they need is a smooth launch.
you need to realize that vg chart doesnt include any digital preorders/sales, only retail bricks, which makes them even more useless than they were 5 years ago and even then they lacked at least 50% of info about sales and basically had just gamestop information.
Its NA only, which is frankly pointless, Eu gaming market is bigger than NA , been proven many times + russia isnt counted into EU market, which is huge as well, then there is SA, AUS+rest, AFrica and so on.
But most importantly, 80% of preorders for game like this will are digital, from numerous websites such as gmg and ncsoft itself
With in game plex;) Or creed in this case. The game is already free to play. I think i agree with the other guy this is a troll post. I am going to pre order, but i see no reason to do it this moment. I will around 5 days before it comes out.
O yeah, most of the time i just wait till then, because you can find people who didnt like the game or something, and they give you a 20-50 percent discount on their code.
It does include trending for digital, it's in the manifesto (vague but there).
I can't say EU is any larger than the USA. It's about equal. If it has been proven many times over, can you link this? With Russia, you have a point for slightly higher numbers. SA / AUS / Africa are moot when it comes to sales. Same with Japan actually. Add them all together and get 10% more sales? Hardly a dent when we're talking low sales to begin with.

You need to buy the game and subscribe to get access to your character, at which point you can use Plex.
Not F2P.
If you lapse your "free" use of Plex, you need to subscribe another month to get access to your character to use another Plex.
Not F2P.

You make a topic how ESO is doomed because of VGChartz numbers and now a topic how Wildstar is also doomed because of VGChartz numbers.
LOL
Are you ioi or something?
Everyone knows VGChartz makes up numbers and is about as trustworthy for facts as Xfire.
Oh, whats that? You defended you post about ESO by linking Xfire numbers?
LOL
I don't know much about this game except the trailers I've seen.
I got a beta invite for the weekend so will check it out.
But I will not play a game which requires a monthly fee. It's not even about the money persé but I want to log in when I want to log in. could be I take a few weeks off, or months. I don't like monthly fees.
Nothing new - like so many before they will first sell their box and all the monthly fees they can before they transfer to a B2P or F2P model.
Starting out like this before changing just means more profit.
Bookmarking this thread for future reference. It's easy for me to say that the OP is wrong because I think the game will do just fine on a sub model. I can't PROVE the op wrong since the track record is that the quality of most sub games has had no greater quality than the F2P drivel we've been handed over the past few years. This complete lack of quality has created the homeless gamers: gamers who love MMO's but have no game to play. It boggles my mind that anyone would want WildStar to redesign their game for a different payment model (yes, redesign - everything would have to change).
Marketing for the game is there, but in a skeptical market Carbine is going to have to prove that they are more than just the next flash in the pan. So far their walk has matched their talk, but we'll see what happens at launch.
I'd rather a sub model game anyday. F2P brings the worst kind of people to a game it seems, and all they do it bitch and moan.
You want value in a game you pay for it.
Going F2P would be paramount to Business Suicide for them. Wildstar is going to start out as a Niche Market game, but once word spreads it will have mass appeal. I believe you will have a rather large segment of the player base from Wow, move to Wildstar.
Lets see your Battle Stations /r/battlestations

No thanks, you can keep your "F2P" models that invovlve no subs yet they restrict basic game features and try to sell them to you. Just look at SWTOR or neverwinter. Or the b2p model like GW2 has and then you don't see any content updates for a year. Unless you count that trash excuse for content called "living story".
Doom and gloom using VGCHARTZ is more like comedy then anything else. That site has been proven innacurate so many times it's just redundant. Now if your against subs on principle, I can understand. I don't agree personally but everyone has their values.
Currently Playing: ESO and FFXIV

dude, quit being cheap and crying about sub fees. the game has enough content for a sub and im happy they went this way. f2p sux ass. always too shallow.
This.
