lvl 45 - game breaking bug. Literal hardstop

RusqueRusque Member RarePosts: 2,785

So upon hitting level 45 you are given the last harborage quest, after you return and do the thing and exit the harborage a spectral image of Vanus Galerion will appear.

Read this carefully level 45's:

If you go beyond his (small) radius he will say, "Fine, be that way. I'll meet you at the capitol." and port out. If you want to pick up the quest, you have to pick it up when his spectral image appears, otherwise he will be in the capitol city of your faction with a quest marker BUT he will be bugged and non-interactable.

Now, you need his quest to progress to cold harbour. Yes, you can get to cold harbour by traveling to another player, but you cannot continue the main story quest line and cannot progress to VR1. It is a hardstop bug.

Currently no response from ZOS on this issue (people have had this one for days), I just encountered it last night. Or rather, I picked it up from the spectral image so I'm fine, my wife ran past him and is bugged. So I'm now playing an alt and she's watching Say yes to the dress (why is this a show? #Idon'tunderstandwomen).

Pfft, that's nothing... you can always port to a friend to get into Coldharbor.

Now my bug is amazing, fighting in the last story quest, which you have to complete to open up access to the Veteran content (again, could port to get around that). But, my character is stuck in a story instance with a mob that I can't interact with and have to kill. I can't abandon the quest, I can't port out, I can't travel to friends or Cyrodiil. If I log out, it logs me back into the story instance, if I type /stuck I revive within the story instance.

My character is essentially, trapped in it's own little prison, locked away from the rest of the game, unable to do anything but walk around and admire the pretty graphics. 5 days played time and now my character is unplayable.

So... I think my quest bug is worse :p

There is nothing much can be done except to submit a bug. And yes, game stopping bugs are totally trashy, and must be the first thing to be ironed out in terms of game updates.

The possibility of the universe collapsing into a singularity is higher than the birth of a perfect MMORPG.

Did you try to open your map and teleport to a wayshrine? You have to pay the teleport fee, but atleat you're free and the quest should reset.

Might be fixed in todays patch. http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/discussion/78407/patch-notes-v1-0-3

    Coldharbour

    • The Army of Meridia: The Groundskeeper will no longer occasionally spawn in an uninteractable state.
    • Crossing the Chasm: You will now always be able to start and advance through the portal events.
    • Crossing the Chasm: The fight against Molag Grunda will now reset properly if you revive after being killed

Well, only level 23 here, so perhaps it will be resolved by the time I get to level 45, but thanks for the heads up, I'll keep this one in mind for sure.

Seems my low pace in game is turning into profit :) Honestly, in my 26 levels I have so far met only two annoying bugs when the NPC refused to fight with me so I had to abandon quest and start all over.

I should probably roll an alt and level that one a bit until they iron out more higher level bugs.

Or they could have done something crazy and had an actual full beta where these bugs could have been found and hammered out before release. These are simple bugs that could have been found via testing, not the like that would have slipped through the cracks for a normal release.

You can't open a map from some main quest line instances - I've read about this bug on main forums.

One guy has been stuck with an unplayable character for over a week now.

You can't abandon it, you can't teleport out to wayshrine, can't travel to friend - if this happens to you - the only option is to have GMs fix it. It takes over a week apparently as they are slammed and don't have enough GMs.

Having any quest where there is a possiblility of getting trapped with no way out is just poor design - it puts so much work on your own GMs and creates unhappy customers.

They need to put ways of resetting all quests including main storyline ASAP.

QTF. I'm hoping their response time has improved a little to be honest, but the only way out of this for me is a GM to help.

Admittedly, up until this point, I hadn't had any other serious bugs, the odd quest not working as intended, but nothing that stopped me playing or progressing.

Even considering the precedents, this launch is becoming one of the worst on record.  Let's hope today's miracle patch fixes a lot of these issues, or I think Zenimax is in for a world of hurt.
  • RusqueRusque Member RarePosts: 2,785

This bug was not resolved in yesterday's patch. So my main is currently side-lined, wife is pissed that she can't play hers.

It's almost comical to see all the bugs other people get that we don't get, but we're stuck on the one that doesn't let us progress our characters.

That being said, I now have lvl 15, lvl 9, and lvl 7 alts! Questing is MUCH faster once you've heard the quests.

But seriously Zenimax, get your shit together.

  • robertbrobertb Member UncommonPosts: 684

Yes. Slow leveling (L21 here) FTW!

I figured that there would be a variety of later level bugs, due to what usually happens in betas, so have been in no hurry.

I do feel sorry for the runners, but that's life, I guess.

It's one of these marvelous Catch-22's... the GMs are being slammed with too much work and support is backlogged because there are so many serious bugs.

Everyone loves to point back at WoW and say, "Well, look at their horrible launch!"  I only once needed a GM in WoW and he/she responded to my request for support within 10 minutes.  I am not a WoW-phile, but the game -- back in 2004!!!! -- was so very much more robust than what we're seeing in MMORPGs now, ESO included.

A lot of that was simply due to real testing before release instead of marketing, but these companies never learn.

I'm not so much a "runner" as much as I am a "play all dayer" lol - As in I took my time and explored every thing 100% map, quests, lorebooks, and listened to all the quests, I just happened to play  . . . a lot. An unhealthy amount really, but fun things are often unhealthy. Like Scotch and Cigars.

Sure, I considered something like that.

As I said, I am sorry that you are having issues. Perhaps strangely, I haven't had very many issues at all, apart from a few log off log on fixes for stuck quests and a bug which caused my character to move very slowly, which has since been fixed.

Overall, it has been a fairly decent experience for me, game performance wise.

Seems like the dev response time to bugs always has them 2-3 steps behind the players. For every quest bug they fix, there's 2-3 that they're well behind the player base on (meaning by the time they fix it a big chunk of players have already out leveled the content that was bugged).

    Agree completely...

Zeni should spend some time over at the Carbine studios and get a clue about releasing a polished, well designed product :)

I was expecting there to be a bit of a dust up between the two around June, but personal preferences around lore and graphics aside, in terms of the quality of what is being released, WS already looks leaps and bounds ahead of ESO.

Sadly, I couldn't make myself last through the first 15 minutes of WS beta. No problem with the game performance, but it just wasn't my cup of tea.

Yeah, but no matter how few bugs WS has, that doesn't make it playable for some of us.

Even with all the bugs, ESO is one of the best MMO's I've ever played so I'm not going anywhere. I'll just wait. I might get pissed off, but I'll wait.

So, for the record, ZOS support fixed my problem, redid the story instance with no issues and have carried on playing fine. So I'm happy again, but a lot more wary of what I may encounter.
  • SatsunoryuSatsunoryu Member UncommonPosts: 285
Yeah, this shouldn't become a conversation about which game is better as a game, as tastes vary dramatically and comparing ESO and WS is like apples and oranges.  The bottom line is, Zeni needs to get their crap together, and quick.  Holy cow the things I'm reading...

While I wanted to like Wildstar based on the previous dev info released, I also questioned it within the first 15 minutes or so of game play.  I know this is almost a cliche answer, but try it up to level 10 or so and try a few different classes.  I found Medic to be the most comfortable starting class.  Once I grew accustomed to the different sort of combat than I have been used to, I really enjoyed the game.  But enough of that, this is an ESO thread.

Rusque, I wish you the best in a speedy resolution.  I know you have been having a blast with this game.  A game breaking bug HAS to be high on the priority list for Zenimax.

Yup same thing happened to me. Hasn't been fixed and now it will not be, for me anyhow I got a refund. This game has pretty much the worst launch I have been a part of. No doubt ESO has potential but it is literally not playable for a good percentage of users. Personally imo this type of launch is unacceptable and given the amount and severity of bugs, mixed with the lack of info regarding them from ZoS, I am boycotting. I am done catering to multi million dollar game companies who believe their IP is the ultimate gift and we should bow and grovel to play.

Oh yeah I get that, WS could be the most polished and competent MMORPG ever released but some will never like it due to the art style and a whole host of reasons.

I am super impressed with WS in terms of technical competence though and I just pumped at some of the stuff thats come out of PAX regarding WS.

If Zeni get their act together I will undoubtedly try ESO for a while too as I love the previous games in the series and the visuals do look splendid in their own right :)

Come on ZOS, get you shit together so ESO fans can enjoy your game the way you mean them too!!!

Between ESO, WS and DS2 it could be a very good summer lol :)

    Agree 100%

Different games for different tastes, but for the sake of ESO subscribers ZEN must do something ASAP!

I like WildStar more than ESO and i think its a lot more polished game, but if Carbine mess it as ZEN is doing until now it will make me mad. I ll be the first to criticize them.
