Had 15k gold stolen from me for a vampire bite

indefindef Member UncommonPosts: 344

So there is currently a big issue, at least in my mind, with the vampire/werewolf system.

There are currently many guilds/role-players camping out the werewolf/vamp spawns and immediately killing the mobs so that nobody can acquire the skill lines.  They do this to either simply grief players or to drive up the price on buying a "bite" from someone who is already a vampire or werewolf.

Because of this issue, I finally gave in and decided to buy a bite.

There's no way to avoid being scammed since the use of the skill isn't tied to the trading system.  The "standard" is for the biter to get all of the gold up front because they hold all the power.  If you don't want to give them the gold up front, there's an infinite amount of other customers who will.

So, I paid some guy 15k to get bitten.  I traded him the 15k and then in chat he said, "Now repeat after me...I am a moron" and then logged off.

I'm not at all salty over 15k gold since it isn't very much.  I understood that getting scammed was possible and I felt 15k wasn't enough to not go through with it.  I just find it disheartening that ZOS would encourage such actions because of how they designed the vamp/were system.  I of course reported this player immediately with a screenshot of the last bit of the conversation (that quote and then him leaving the party and logging off).  This was 5 days ago and I have yet to hear a response from ZOS.  I highly doubt anything will happen to this player and I highly doubt I'll get my 15k gold back.

How do you guys feel about the way vampire/werewolf works right now?  I personally don't find the current system fun in any way.  It isn't fun camping a spawn with 200 other people that you know are just going to screw you over.  It's not fun risking your currency to buy a skill line from another player.  And lastly, it isn't fun playing a game that has a community of scammers and griefers.  Scamming and griefing is 100% acceptable in full-loot sandbox MMOs...but ESO certainly isn't one of those.

Why would you try to pay someone you never EVER met "in game" money for anything without very real assurances that you would get what you paid for (for example, paying for something sent you to C.O.D?)

Why not join a guild and get one of the guild mates to give you that bite?

IN some of the older games you were forced to give mats to crafters and you quickly learned who the good crafters were and the "bad  crafters".

I'm sorry you lost money, I really am, but there is definitely a life lesson here.

    First...LOL

Second..I'm sorry that happend to you.  What a jerk!

It'll even out eventually.  Given all the scams and attention vamps/wws are getting, there now people newly interested in becoming guild hunters of said vamps/ww.  Once the vamps/ww get steamrolled over and over again and news gets out, the popularity will fade.  Give it time.

That's just, like, my opinion, man.

I don't see why Zenimax should/would help, really.  It's not their fault and I don't see why ANY mmorpg should hold the hands of its players in this regard.  Playing Eve Online gives you a different perspective, I guess.  It takes two people for one of them to be conned and it was only make-believe gold anyway.

    It's a game, it isn't real life.

15k of digital Elder Scrolls Online "gold" is completely meaningless to me and my real life.  I 100% knew I could get scammed and accepted that consequence.

I am in a guild.  We have 11 total vampires right now in guild and each person has a wait-list of 5-6 people for bites.  I'm not going to wait 1-2 months to get the skills I need for my build.

Lets be honest here... this is the price you pay for wanting to get a bite instead of earning it or finding a legitimate source to bite you.  People are only selling bites because there are people willing to buy it.

You can't kill people in the PvE world.  There is nothing to stop the scammers/griefers.

If you're referring to PvP, I 100% disagree.  Vampire/were are very strong in PvP despite their disadvantages.  Vampire especially...mist form and bat swarm are insane (and highly out-weigh the fire damage increase).

My entire build is dependent on the vampire skill line.  I rolled a Dark Elf specifically for the fire resistance racial (that way I can save a ring enchant).

Well that's the thing; I played Lineage 2 from the start and scammers were everywhere.

The old "drop your weapon on the ground and I can use a spell to enchant it" worked for longer than you would think.

I was only taken once and it was because it was late and I was buying a quantity of a certain item that also had the same icon as a lower priced item.

Didn't read the item well enough to catch myself before I clicked "buy".

Will never happen to me again.

You currently can't earn it.  I have been at the spawns now for 3 bloodfiend spawns.  The mobs spawned and they immediately were killed.  They were dead before anyone could be touched by them.  I had been trying to legitametly get biten (at the spawn) for almost 2 weeks since launch...I saw the bloodfiends spawn 3 times and they were insta-killed....so I finally decided to buy a bite.

As I said before, all of my guild members had already used their bites and they have month long waiting lists already for future bites.

I'm going to ask one time for this thread to not turn into a flaming session on me for attempting to buy a bite.  If the only responses I get to this thread are flame/hate posts, I'll just ask a mod to close/delete it.

Hmm maybe there is a money opportunity, become a "Bite Broker" charge a 5% transaction tax from the buyer/seller and then hold the money from the buyer until the seller of the bite completes the transaction.

LOL i might just start doing this, but seriously thats how i would have done this sort of trade, someone you both rely on being honest, holds the money till the bite happens.

EVE is a full-loot sandbox MMO.  ESO is not.

I played Darkfall Online for 3 years.  I know plenty about living in a full-loot MMO environment.  ESO is a themepark game and thus shouldn't allow this kind of behavior to be acceptable.

If ESO was a full-loot PvP MMO, I wouldn't have made this thread.

Sounds like there is a job opening for a 3rd party "trustet trader" in ESO.

Hell they might have left some sand in the box by accident. Nice!

    Priceless !

The scamming is a result of a poorly designed system.

I'm not blaming ZOS for allowing me to get scammed.  I'm blaming them for implementing a god awful system (how to obtain the vamp/were skill lines) that encourages people to scam.

I shouldn't have to buy a bite.  I shouldn't have to camp a spawn for WEEKS only to get griefed by other players.

Griefing like this is 100% acceptable in a game where you can kill other players.  You can't kill other places in these zones and thus makes the griefing completely unacceptable.

4 days of camping to get my werewolf bite.....
4 days endless hours of camping trough the 2+ hours not knowing if they would spawn werewolf or vampires or nothing, between the griefers and trolls....

    But i did it.

Never crossed my mind to pay a faker money to get a /bitelol scammed

Next time have patience and if you realy want it you "work" to get it as it makes it all the more special to get something you realy want.

Doesnt mean that guy is an ashole, but each mmo that comes out seems to have griefers and troll increased with 50%.
One day i hope we can have a moderators who instand ban these mongoloids from mmo's.

    They are a disease...

i got a level 43 nightblade werewolf and a veteran 2 sorcerer vampire

the system seems to be working out pretty well for me, what you need to realise is, it doesnt just spawn at one location and it doesnt just spawn once.. the last full moon, at least 6 different sets of werewolves spawned across the map in the span of about 10 minutes... you dont just wait at the spawn site.. as soon as the first one comes up you move around the map looking for the different locations and i'll tell you something else, there is 3 or 4 dedicated spawn points.. but it's not perfect, sometimes they spawn near the location not right at it...

either way, it was never meant to be farmable content, it just got treated that way, it's kind of good that people are killing them and stopping the game being flooded with vampires and werewolves, honestly... wait for a friend or guildy to get it, or stay human... dont try buying it.

I personally don't want to view games I play as work.

Getting the vampire skill-line was not special to me and never was.  It could have been the "rainbow fairy" skill-line for all I care.  The skills are simply part of my build and I need them.  This is why I was willing to buy it.

You can totally earn it.  I have multiple friends who all got their bites from blood fiends this week.  I know it can be frustrating that there are people who are killing the mobs so that they can have some sort of market on bites but they are only doing it because there are people who are willing to buy it.  Im not trying to flame you with my comment... the choice was yours to make and its a 50/50 chance that you took whether the guy was being genuine about biting you.  You got burned by your decision and that's okay.... and you know that.

Sometimes it pays to be patient and hopefully you won't pay someone to do something for you next time.

You are welcome to your opinion and I mine as you and I are neither vamp or hunter yet.  I can only go by what I've read on Reddit and there was a ridiculous amount of QQing by vamps the other day when it was revealed they appear with large white circles underneath them to folks in Fighter Guild with the correct passive.  Like it or not, y'all WILL be singled out over and over again in PvP no matter how large the crowd.

That's just, like, my opinion, man.

Before we did the bite I added the player to my friends list.  I haven't seen him online since the incident...I wonder if they banned him?  I don't know if ZOS has the capability to restore gold, but it'd be nice to get it back (even though it isn't much).

I'm not gonna flame you, but I have to ask what do you expect Zenimax to do about this? It's not like they're going to station a gm at the spot and force a single file line so everyone who wants it can get their bite. DId you try reloging until you were placed in a not so crowded phase? It works to circumvent the quest bugs, can't see why it wouldn't work here.

As for the scam, not that I support the practice as I don't, but it's something you have to be aware of in any game, sandbox or otherwise.

Thanks for clarifying.  I appreciate what you're saying.  The only reason I wasn't being patient was because I want to make sure my vamp skill line is leveled for when I hit vet content.

I have 60 hours of play time and I'm only level 36.  I plan on PvP'ing pretty much exclusively once I hit vet 1.

This could ALL have been avoided had Zenimax made werewolves/vampires both RANDOM and very rare spawns.

By having them spawn in set places in specific zones there is NO WAY they could not have known this would happen.

Why on earth they did this is beyond me, it makes the entire thing trivial.

Coming across one or the other should have been rare and something that was surprising, not something you "compete" with other players over.
