Liking the game but a couple of concernts

Just to be clear, you are free to insert, 'IMO' after every single sentence in this post as that is what a forum is, a place to exchange opinions.

I try everything that comes out just because I want to, so even though I'd heard some things I didn't like about ESO, I bought it anyway and am having a very good time playing it.  The graphics are phenomenal.  Nighttime is particularly well done.

After installing a couple of addons to make it a bit more mmorpgy, I like it even more.  Specifically, I like to see what I've looted out of barrels and off mobs, I like automatic repairs, I want to see my mana(majika), stamina and health and I want junk to be auto-sold  to vendors.  I wasn't very happy about these basic mmorpg functions not being available in game, but was very happy to see they allowed addons and that the addon people were on top of things.

I do have a couple of really big concerns though.  I can live without chat bubbles and I realize they've said they didn't do them because they didn't want to mess with the looks of the game, but I suspect they don't have them because this will be a console release as well as a PC release and many console players don't have keyboards.  Optional chat bubbles would have been nice.  I like being able to walk up to a dungeon and just ask everyone standing around if they need another person in the group.  The group finder works fine for this, it's just a personal preference.  I was doing a bugged quest yesterday and it would have been handy just to ask everyone standing around if it was bugged rather than having to whisper individual players.  Again, I can live with it.  The addon community may be able to address this in the future.

My huge gripe is the lack of a Public Auction House.  I understand that they are doing it this way so that you'll have to join a guild and all, but I have always enjoyed the Auction Houses in other MMORPGs I've played and think they are an important part of creating a 'World'.  Having an in game economy that doesn't rely on Guilds is important, especially with the sort of brutal crafting system they have that takes lots of mats.  I'd really love to just buy some Jute when I need it without joining a guild.  It may work out fine in the end, but having to start joining guilds (even with the 5 limit) at the beginning of the game is not ideal.

Maybe this is just new and I don't fully understand it and will grow to appreciate it after a while, but if I don't, it's a huge problem for me as far as longevity of gameplay goes.

I'll be playing a couple of months and then we'll see.

There is still a /say channel you know, so you can talk to players in your vicinity.. you don't need to whisper to them.

I agree with the auction house thing. I think this guild store business is stupid and just forces you to sell to less or buy from less people and have to check multiple stores. Hopefully they will change it.. sooner rather than later.

Oh, thanks for the /say advice.  I did not realize that would just be broadcast to people standing near you.

That does help a lot, but I still want my (optional) chat bubbles!  Maybe they'll add some way to anchor characters and there will be an addon.  One can hope.

There is already an addon for chat bubbles, was released yesterday. It's not a perfect solution but it stops you having read the chat window all the time. It's called Simple Chat Bubbles, search for it on esoui.com

The no auction house thing could be a good thing in the long run.

I imagine the demand is going to be insanely high for crafting items so could end up with gatherers/farmers being sought after leading to more specialist trade guilds. At the moment theres a lot of 500 member trade guilds with not much stock for sale.

If i ever do become a master alchemist or whatever I'd feel more accomplished than just buying everything from a global store quite cheap.

I also thought there was an option ingame to turn on stats as numerical values without needing a addon. I've been getting along without them for now but the loot box one sounds useful.

I don't mind the lack of the AH but it would be nice if they added a Trade only channel. Right now a lot of zone chat is WTB/WTS.

    *shrug*

And as far as asking people about quests, /zone usually works for me. I always  try to respond to people either via whisper or back to /zone if I h know about a bugged quest they have asked about.

A few dinks in chat will pipe up now and again with the stupid comments but overall people are helpful.

Yeh, a trade and guild recruitment channel be useful. The adverts are just swamping all the normal conversations.

Won't work because spammers want to reach a broad audience so they will spam the channel that has the most followers.

The AH is NOT a feature, it is a spam control.

One of the most powerful skills of an intelligent being is to learn from those who came before, to observe actions in others and obtain wisdom from it. If I seen furthest, it is because I stood on the shoulders of giants.

Zenimax has shown very little ability to learn from over a decade of MMORPG history. They are repeating mistakes other already made and fixed.

The game has some interesting features but Zenimax really should have downloaded some Skyrim mods to see just how bad Bethesed's original user experience design was.

I am sure at some point someone will create an out of game AH. I remember the SWG server forums had separate trade forums Something similar would be nice for ESO.

I do wish they have a public AH.  I had thought this was one of those de facto MMO features that would not get removed again.  Having to join a guild just to sell to people within the guild is just dumb, in my opinion.
