How do I redeem the game without entering CC or Paypal?

I preordered from some online retailer, got early access code which I redeem couple of days ago with no problem, today I tried redeeming the game code and before letting me to redeem it, website asks me to select subscription plan and provide my credit card or paypal information.

But the game is supposed to come with 30 days game time, I do NOT wish to subscribe at the moment, considering I already have 30 days early access. Not to mention someone got charged for game time already, so I don't wish to encounter same problems.

It also lets me to enter game time code instead of selecting payment option, but when I enter explorer pack code it doesn't work. And when i tried redeeming explorer's pack before ESO, it said I have to redeem ESO first.

So how do I redeem the game without subscribing/paying? We are supposed to get 30 days game time like I said, so why is it not letting me to just redeem game without choosing subscription? Maybe I don't wish to pay for another 30-180 days atm.

You enter the payment info now so that when your 30 free days is up they can bill you for the next 30 days. Pretty much the way all P2P MMOs work

So if I enter the payment info, can I cancel straight away so that they wouldn't bill me for next 30 days?

Also what's up with those 2 days? Should I be redeeming my game code now or wait 2 days? Since I don't want them to start counting the 30 days today, considering we who preordered got 2 extra grace days. Or even if I redeem it now, the 30 days won't start until Sunday?

except in other threads people are complaining that they were billed for 30 day immediately.

It's also a mistake by Zenimax as they are fessing up to it being a mistake.

Yep, this exactly. That's why I am hesitant entering it now. But anyway from what I understood since I have early access I don't need to redeem the game code yet, I have a couple of days, until Sunday. Then after that I won't be able to play until I redeem it. Hopefully by then they will fix and won't charge people from the get go.

traditionally yes you enter the info then cancel as soon as its registered, but apparently something is going on with the games billing.

Cheers, I will wait a couple of days since I got early access and it was extended until Sunday now. Hopefully they will fix it by then.

I'd still say people should wait until confirmation that the issue is fixed, right now it's just a "don't worry we'll hit you back" I remember the last friend I trusted with that one, don't remember what he looked like though..... :)

Why is it a full 14.99? If they want to make sure the card is valid they only have to charge a penny to it, which most places do. between 1 and 3 cents.

If someone is living pay check to pay check and this is the Friday they didnt get paid they might not even have 14.99 in that account, so they spent 60 or 80 bucks on a game and because they dont have 14.99 in there that isnt supposed to be charged for 30 days they cant play?

The card only has to be VALID, therefore there is no need to try and charge the full months fees.

No it doesn't work like that in all P2P mmo's, all the mmo's i've played never asked you to set up a subscription to activate you're key.

I do know that a very very few mmo's did this.

Dark Age of Camelot did not but that is probably an exception to the rule.

Really what mmo is that because I can't think of an mmo that was sub-locked where it didn't ask me to enter payment info and start a sub plan. Lineage, LotRO, EQ2, Tera, Rift, WoW, DDO, Age of Conan, Aion, Tabula Rasa, and I might be missing a couple, but all those had me enter payment info and then subscribe. I could cancel after that, but I had to at least sub and then cancel before the recurring fee hit. It was all opt out.

The most recent that comes to mind would be Final Fantasy Online. Personally I don't recall a game that required from me to give them my credit card when I had already purchased game time via other means (steam sale for example or box code).

Also to the fellow Skeaser above, they are not doing what he's describing. They are actually billing you for an extra 30 days (or whatever amount of time you pick) and then refund that amount on a next billing circle. In other words, if you give them a credit card with no money in it, you will be denied.

(I've already confirmed that with their support btw).

    http://games.on.net/2014/04/elder-scrolls-online-pete-hines-says-sub-model-only-fails-if-youre-not-getting-your-moneys-worth/

“If you don’t like the game, of course you’re not subscribing to it,” says Hines. “You get the game, you get your first month without having to pay for a subscription to see ‘is this thing a thing I like’? If your approach that you want to take is that, for example, you love Skyrim, you played it for 125 hours, but after three or four weeks you were done, then you can do the exact same thing in Elder Scrolls Online.”

“You can buy it, play the hell out of it for four weeks and go ‘Eh! I’m done. I did everything I wanted to do, I did a bunch of single-player stuff, I did a bunch of PVP, and now I’m out.’ Then you’re out. The subscription is irrelevant. The initial purchase is exactly the same as any other PC game because you don’t have to pay for the subscription until your 30 days is up.”

I subscribed this morning, recurring, via Pay Pal.

I was notified that my Pay Pal account would be charged on May 4th.

I set mine up through paypal... didn't bill me.  Wouldn't really matter either way as I plan on playing long past the 30 day mark.

That's what I just did. I don't like recurring subscriptions as I can always forget I am paying for a game that I don't play... Yes, I'm old, my memory is bad and I play a lot of games ;)

Entered Imperial key & Paypal Info -> Cancelled sub on TESO site -> Cancelled authorisation for  payment to Zenimax on Paypal site -> I can still play the 30 free days no worries.

And yes, they did a mistake with charging 13€  but they auto-cancel the charge directly now. No idea why they just don't charge in the first place so... maybe to check we have the funds to pay the sub.

I set up payment info yesterday, no charge. Used PayPal though so I don't know if that's the difference. I wasn't aware of the problems going on when I made my post and am sorry I spread mis-information, especially when it comes to money.
