Player Housing announced for SWTOR.

BadOrbBadOrb Member UncommonPosts: 791

Yeah a 40 second video was shown on their twitch channel earlier. Cool news for those that want it. Now all I want are chat bubbles.

Cheers,

BadOrb.

This should have been in at release not over 2 years later.

Wow I must be psychic , no joke now , I saw there was a reply and thought I bet someone says it should have been in at launch not two years later. Really weird. I am off to play SWTOR as that was very scary.

I hope there is a choice of planet.  Dromund Kaas is fine, but Coruscant is lame.

Everybody's favorite thing should've been in at launch according to that person. You know what really should've been in at launch? A working open PvP planet. They gave us Ilum instead. You know what they should've done right after launch? Fixed Ilum. You know what still hasn't been done two years later? Fix Ilum. You see a pattern forming here. At least people who wanted off the rails space combat got it (okay, so it's not X-Wing vs Tie or SWG JTL, but it's better than what you had) and the folks who want housing will get it. But, they still haven't managed to fix content that was broken at launch. Or, at least, they hadn't the last time I played. /sigh.

This is true even of the game FFXIV that i am playing now.The sad reality is MOST of the games are rushed, they do have budgets and time lines, that also means Beta tests are also sort of fake because these games are released right on schedule no matter what Beta reveals for bugs.

IMO housing is not what i would want to come back to this game,i want the class and combat structure completely overhauled,it got too boring too early in the game to keep me around. Also imo housing is something you add once you get the main game done right but i guess in this case,SWTOR is not bringing back players but searching for ideas to keep players.

This is actually a problem that TOR has in common with SWG.  Both games had PvP areas that weren't perfectly implemented, but instead of fixing them essentially removed them entirely.  The sad thing being that even their original "broken" conditions were still better than not having them enabled at all.

My eyes always glaze over when I see anything about Player Housing. I just cannot understand the point. The only word that comes to mind is carebear.

Can't players do this already on the ship, with all the same features, storage ect?

Haha.. even before i clicked the topic i knew someone would have already posted 'this should have been in at release".

It would be great if we lived in a perfect world where a MMO releases with every favorite feature of every mmo player in this world but sadly we dont live in a perfect world.

Looks spacious, I like it :). This is Coruscant, so I guess it's a safe bet that Empire will have housing on Dromund Kaas.

I hope that there will be an option to live on Nar Shaddaa though at least for Smugglers and Bounty Hunters /grin.

And darn... give us a real working casino with this option....

Dulfy says the announcement should come soon

I think PvP is stupid. But, I don't mind it because I can choose to not participate. Any content in an MMO is good content for those that like choices.

The reasons I quit playing SWTOR had nothing to do with the lack of "grounded" player housing. And, the addition of "grounded" player housing is not enough for me to even consider playing SWTOR again.

I like SWTOR for the STORY. Once that was exhausted, the game lost its luster.

Let's party like it is 1863!

Carebear? maybe in this game yes[the games you play].. But if you ever played old school ultima online or any other sandbox games houses come in handy.. you know.. for storage..and depending on the game you played mine was Ultima you could have vendors outside/inside you're house selling stuff for you.. but back then if someone killed u and jacked you're house key then they be lootin all day..games use to be so much fun back in the day now as you would say.. its all carebear. you die you repair no real big deal..you craft something it sucks .. awesome.. no one cares cause loot is better and crafting in most games now is pointless..

it depends on if there is some kind of customization involved.  if it is just a place you buy/rent and can't change anything, then yea its the same as the ship.  but would be different if you can buy and place furniture anywhere you want

    Awesome news!

Not a hater or a fanboy, but if they are going to do this they need to do it right.  To me that means:

    Choice of planet.

    Choice of style of house.

    Customization.

    Not all cash shop.

Since they have huge sections of planets that are not not available in game there should be no reason they cannot grow the worlds to accommodate a real housing system.

    No half assing it please.

“It's unwise to pay too much, but it's worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, you lose a little money - that's all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot - it can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.”

It's only sandbox if we have some control over what it looks like.  If it's static just like the ship, it's just another ride in the themepark.

If we get anything more than half assed Cash Shop Player Housing I will be surprised.

I have a gut hunch the only reason SWTOR is getting PH is because of WildStar's Player Housing. The closer W* gets to release the more we are going to see EA try to re-make TOR to keep as many from jumping ship as possible, and some of the reaction may not be thought out too well.

On the Jedi Ship there still is no update to add the Crew Berths that would of course need to be there for the Companions... (even after all us filing bug reports and complaining about it for over 2 years).... if EAware can't manage to fix that I have no faith they will do Player Housing worth a $%^& either. Good Player Housing is as much "attention to detail" as anything else, and EAware falls short on that too often.
