Hi Eridanix. When it comes to traditional MMORPGs such as DAoC, WoW, Metin, and so on I think there is no suitable game available. Browser based games have evolved into interesting games, but most of them are meant to deliver quick fun and not the complexity of a MMORPG.

However, there are some browser based online games that might be interesting for you. Please keep in mind that most free 2 play browser based online games are for free but usually can cost a lot of money if you want to play them at high end level:

    Kings Road: https://www.rumblegames.com/kingsroad

Kings Road is a game that plays like Diablo. It offers 3 classes and a campaign that increases in difficulty with each iteration. It also offers cooperative multiplayer and players may trade items in a city that acts as hub to the campaigns.

    Glory of Gods: http://www.gloryofgods.com/

This one seems to come closest to what a MMORPG is. It offers Loot, Mounts, PvP, dungeons and a big game world. Haven't played it though, so I can not tell you more.

    Yitien Chronicles: http://yitien.r2games.com/

Seems to be some sort of a MMO that is based upon chinese mythology. The developing studio R2 also offers another game that is also based on chinese mythology, Blood and Jade.

Maybe one of these games makes you happy.

I've been addicted to Wartune for the last month and a half or so. It's a 2.5d mmo/rts/rpg hybrid. Free to play with cash shop, so far I havent spent a dime.
