This. MMORPG.com viewing are MMO connoisseurs. The people on this site are MMO sluts. Its been discussed time and time again but WoW players are not MMO players. They are WoW only players. Most, if not all of the typical WoW players have never, nor will they ever try a new MMO. That is why WoW rates lower.
Sweeping generalisations much?
From D&D on paper to MUD at secondary school lunch times, through Earth & Beyond, DoaC, AO, EVE (two accounts), STO and much more, i have played plenty in my time and still look at the others making their way to market that interest me, but the only game to hold my interest (other than E&B which was cancelled in it's prime) is WoW.
The list is what it is, an opinion of people who voted, no more or less. If you spend any time on the WoW forum here you tend to get a split of 80/20 with the 80 being those that need to spend their time either trying to prove that WoW is a poor game because they have been told so or who used to play the game and need to justify to themselves why they don't anymore. Heaven forbid that you should try and say anything positive about WoW around here and be stamped as a non-MMO player who does not deserve an opinion.
It must be Thursday, i never could get the hang of Thursdays.
I am pretty sure most people never vote, but the people who play "underdog" games feel a much stronger need to "push" their game... Like DF... It is a horrid mess that might become a good game at some point. But it has a loyal player base that are very dedicated to draw in new people.
I am not even sure that 1% of WoW´s population actually visit this site... But it is not a stretch for me to imagine that 5-10% of the DF population roam here, in not in order to drum up interest for the game.
Any way trust me if there was a even semi organized push to rank up WoW on this site... It would be glued so hard to nr1 that you would need Ned Flanders to pull it away.
Originally posted by -Zeno- You would think that with the playerbase WoW has it would be higher on the list too!
I've always been under the impression that the majority of the WoW playerbase is so satisfied with their product they have no reason to come onto this site at all. If I had a complete mmorpg, I sure as hell would not be here.
Your probably correct. I was happy in SWG until they ballsed it up and thats when I discovered this site
WoW is not that great - but its a good deal better then a bunch of games its ranked lower then.. No doubt the MMO hipsters down vote it. That was my point..

Most of WoW's player base aren't the jaded, synical, grizzled MMO casualties that make up the bulk of this website. That's why it's not rated higher.
