Arutha8Arutha8 Member Posts: 9

hi i am new in this site(forums), and i want to buy gw, can you help me some features about gw

First of all, how many characters can be created by one acount? If there is a limit, can i delete my characters and create new ones or i can create only limited number of characters. ı heard that only 4 character can be created by one account.

Second, it will be my first mmorpg, generally in forums people said that gw is not a mmorpg, would anyone explain it briefly?

Finally, please give me some info about gw..

thanks for helps, and happy new year to everyone...

World of Warcaft- I only played till i got to lvl 50.  I stopped playing becus i knew alls i had to look forward to is running instances over and over.  WoW is a very instance based game.  So if u dont like continuosly running something over and over dont play WoW.  i know someone will contradict what im saying but if u want good gear, Then hav fun running instances.

Everquest 2- I JUST started playing this game and it is fun for me. But i wont make ne comments becuse i dont know too much about it

Guild Wars-  I love this game.  It is wicked fun.  People dont consider it an mmo becus u get ur own peice of the game whenever u leave a town and such, but it is wicked fun still.  I consider it a hugely upgraded version of Diablo 2, becus it is similar in some respects.  But like i said it is considerably better and has its differences that are for the good.  PVP in Guild wars is also very fun. GVG, TAs and such are all decent.

I know i havent given u all the info about each game but i guess overall ill say 1) WoW was fun at first but it burned out.  2) Everquest 2 is fun but i dont know enough about it to give u an educated review. 3) Guild Wars is very fun and id recommend buying because u dont hav to pay a monthly fee so if u dont like it then its not like u wasted money on a subscription.

I have been playing World of Warcraft since March off and on and I had Guild Wars for sometime now too. I always played WoW>GW for reasons, and now when my game card expired I started up GW again but something is dragging me back to WoW. Anyways I dont consider GW as a MMORPG but its still a fun game. A MMORPG to me means that I can get toghter with a group of people and run around raiding and things like that. In GW the biggest group you can have it a group of 6 I think so I dont really see that as massive multiplayer game like WoW or EQ or what ever. GW is like D2 but this time the chat rooms are towns but these towns have a limit to how many people can actually be in it.

Dont get me wrong GW is still a great game but thoes are my 2 cents on my I dont think its a MMORPG.

Dont let anything Captain RPG or any wowbos tell you affect your decision.

And it says on GWs website. CORPG or something like that standing for Competetive Online Role Playing Game.

i played guild wars for sometime... i think its a great game because its free. it lacks depth i think. just considering storyline and weapons and stuff like that
pvping was always fun but i think that was really it, a good play for a few months though

You can create and delete characters as much you like as long you got max 4 characters at any time for each CD-key.
In the hunting and fighting areas you can have a group of max 8.
In other MMORPG you can have 100+ people waiting for something to spawn and to steal the loot. That dont happen in GW.
You can find more info about GW here: http://www.guildwars.com
This thread is about difference between GW and WoW: http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion.cfm/load/forums/loadforum/511/loadthread/59377/setstart/1/loadclass/175

I have played GW since april 28th 2005 and I still like the game. You get more fun of GW if you join a guild you like.

IMO GW and WoW are totally different games, I have been in GW and WoW for sometime now, and consider myself quite famlia with both worlds. (rank 7 in GW, lvl 60 in WoW)

GW is not a proper MMORPG, if you ever played Diaoblo 2 Multiplayer mode, it is almost identical to that, you go to towns and outposts, gather a group of people, and then go out for missions and quests, when you do go out you and your group enters a totally seperate enviroment from everyone else, which lost the sense of MMORPG, Also the level is capped at lvl 20, you could reach level 20 in less than a week or casual playing, or less than 5 hours if you know what you are doing.

the best aspect of GW has to be the PvP, PvP can only happen in arenas, so in a sense you don't really get killed if you don't want to, PK has no pendalty in the game, so dying can be fun :). PvP in the game has a lot to do with "builds" how your skills are used, and how they are linked with teammates, which generally comes from experience, completling the storyline doesn't mean you will be amazing in PvP, as there are every chance of someone just created their account, creating a PvP character and kick you totally.

WoW in otherhand is traditional MMORPG, how good you are in the game is directly related to how much time and effort u spend in the game, the Level is capped at 60, which will take you weeks and weeks to reach. Lots of PKs running about, but to me that just adds the element of danger, although it can get quite annoying sometimes, but then when you are bored you could also make someone elses' life hell ;). WoW also has a lot more missions NOT computer generated meaning not much of the annoying grinds.

I would say GW def has a much more kidde community, lots of 13-16 years old running about with their "leet talks" and brats, exchanging insults calling of "noobs", I think mainly due to the no monthly fees (no need for credit card etc). While WoW has a slighly mature community, notice i said slightly,  cos WoW players can really be a pain in the arse too, if you are unlucky enough to meet them, only then its not a matter of exchanging insults more of an "I kill you cos I can".

Having a decent guild in GW is much more important than in WoW (imho), unless you like spending time with CS-kids. Watch for decent people when doing missions (the people shouting for guild members in towns are seldom long-lived).

Brilliant game with no subs fee. Not a MMORPG surely but offers nearly best PVP and Competitive Mission. You can play the game with AI Controlled Henchmen or with your friends. You can fight with your friends and also you can watch the matches b/w Guilds. ( New Option : Observer Mode )

Story is perfect and the game can be played very very long time. Since proffessions are too different, you ll wanna play with all proffessions. The Game itself is very long with quests and elite skills and very big world that are waiting to explore.

Thats all i can say. You ll never do things over and over in Guild Wars. There will be always diff. things to do. And the Second Chapter is coming over, i think you should be hurry to play and finish at least the story missions in the game.

thanks for the infos, i have another questions, what about quest in gw? Are they satisfying and fun? i like diablo so i will like gw i think.

  • AydrianAydrian Member Posts: 52

I got much more satisfaction from Quests in GW than I did with WoW. Guild Wars can be challenging on every single Quest, and I never found any quest to be easy. While in WoW, quests were simplified down to idiocy level and I only found those quests to be amusing, not challenging, because if it was too hard I'd just go somewhere else, level up a few times then come back and own every monster in the area.

In Guild Wars you can go back and do quests in the earlier areas of Old Ascalon and you still might find it fun, taking on enemies a few at a time might seem simple, but get mobbed and you can still actually die. That isn't so in WoW, if you're just a few levels above the monsters in the area, they'll fall to your might and power with no challenge at all. Imagine if you're twenty levels above them.

Overall, the quests in GW are very fun and challenging, they can bring out the great gamer in just about everyone.

I also find the Pve in Guild Wars very satisfying and fun.  I totally agree with the previous poster's view on WoW's quests.  They are all very similar.  PLus the rewards u get from the quests in World of Warcraft suck suck suck.  In Guild Wars, there are many quests that give u new skills to add to ur arsenal for pvp and pve.  GW is a really kool game and even though its not considered a total mmo, its still fun.

Guild Wars is maybe a whole different type of MMORPG then you expect.

In a usual ''MMORPG'' you will be working weeks/months to gain a high lvl.

In guild wars you reach the maxmum lvl within a week, if your some asian grind dude or someone who lvls you in 2-3 days even. ( If you will be playing alone, and decide to do every quest, it will take long too, but will give you lot of fun aswell, there are plenty of quests, and they are not even easy. They are really difficult, but the co op missions etc are really fun imo )

In Guild Wars its more about the Player versus Player battles, to experience a MMORPG, id try out some trials, first. I don't know if World of Warcraft still offers one, but try that first. If thats what your looking for, id suggest you to play something like that. ( You probally in most games will find out also there areas that you can kill other people )

IF thats what takes your interest, killig other people. DEFINATLY buy Guild Wars then.

Good thing ofcourse is, Guild Wars eventually will be cheaper on the longer term.

Kiddie community? I've had that game since october 21, 2005. I've never seen annoying brats.  Actually i've never heard the word "noob" in the chat channel but occassionally people "try" to strip for some cash..  Just cheap.

Onto business. This game is fun, if you know to do and when to do it. iits not the longest game ever but you've got lots of different combo's that you can create. So it may take a long time. The PvP action is the best I have seen in my life. Those close jumps.

Here's a reminder: do not get henchman. They really do suck. Well you're going to have to be more specific for me to answer more questions.

Thanks for the infos, a question about PvP,

In PvP servers are there an battleground or a city to fight with others? (I mean, map of PvP areas are small or big).

thanks for your help friends, i'll buy GW because i think i will enjoy to play it than WoW. And it is also cheaper like you say.

do GW have housing system for guilds or single characters? I mean DO exsist castels or what else for guild s to gather in? ANd another question, are there PvP rewards?

  • Sky-DreamSky-Dream Member Posts: 64

A Guild can buy a Guild Hall to do GvG, Meeting, and such. A Guild Hall can be an island, a remote location somewhere, and has different scenery to choice from. GvG and PvP will be rewarded w/ fractions and experience. Fractions also you to unlock ur PvP only Character's Skills and Items. While experience allow ur current character to lvl up or gain skill points to buy skills for ur PvE character.

  • Sky-DreamSky-Dream Member Posts: 64

You can basicly do any PvP at any lvl. There are PvP arena from lvl 1-10, lvl10-15, lvl 15-20. These PvP Arena can be found during ur quest stage or new major city. So if you dont like to do PvE with ur current character, u can just jump in and do few PvP for a short 15minutes of ur time. Great way to gain EXP. The Maps of PvP is not that big, but fairly enough space for everyone to run around. In PvP, you will be randomly pick or u can choice to team w/ other player if u are lvl 20. Doing PvP allows you to noticed ur character's weakness and strength.

  • freakerdfreakerd Member Posts: 60

There is a 24/7 tournament happening always that is also cool. And the size of the maps depends on how many teams are fighting eachother or like the guild halls I find those maps very large too.

  • Stickman101Stickman101 Member Posts: 34

There are 4 character per account. yes they are deletable.

This was my first mmorpg and I am still playing(one of my favorites)

  • ADM_ANADM_AN Member Posts: 23

    About Guild Wars accounts.

As mentioned b4, you can only have a max of 4 chars for each account made with 1 cd-key, adding more cd-keys to the same account will not increase the limit.

Withing the same account, items can be traded between the 4 chars by placing the item you want to give from one char to another inside the storage warehouse.  For trading between chars from different accounts, you will have to use the trade button.

Quests: very challanging, however some are easy to complete and others are very tough.  The tougher it becomes as you progress through the game.  Quests are also divided into 2 types (my personal classification).

    1. NPC given quests (quests you get from interacting with NPCs) are all single mission quests.  Basically I am saying there is only 1 objective to complete.

    2. Game Main Missions (you have to complete these missions as they are part of the main story line and sometimes necessary for further progression in the game) hav 2 parts.  The main part which will earn you 1000 exp and 1 skill point while at the same time allowing you to progress further in the game (sometimes unlocking new skills or attributes or status) and the bonus part which you can either choose to complete or not as it's only reward is an extra 1000 exp.

Most missions in the game are best done with a team that consists of other players or in the case of Guild Wars, the game offers a small selection of NPCs (called Henchmen) that you can add to your team if you are not the kind of person who socialize well with others (real live players).  However be warned of using the available NPC teammates, because after 1/3 of the game, having real player teamates becomes a must to successfully complete the quest/mission.  Trust me, henchmen begin to suck way badly as you progress.  Personally I believe NPC teamates act only as a training for new players.  (NPC teamates are not available in the initial part of the game called Pre-searing Ascalon as that part is like a tutorial for new chars to learn basic skills and get a few lvls before heading into the main part of the game called Post-searing Ascalon)

Another warning, for those who do not wish to play through the story line of the game and rather have veteran players help you (Running) to more advanced parts of the game (yes, in this game, players aready very much progressed can team with new players and help them get to other outposts/cities which would normally be reached by playing through the story line).  If you are one of these freeloading players, them BE WARNED:

    A. I dont respect you.  You dont deserve it.

    B. You will be missing out on a lot of skills/exp and other stuff that you will need to progress within the game.  (especially when you reach the battles against the Mursaat stage where you will need to first get Ascended in the desert b4 gaining the Infused status for your armor so you can withstand the attacks of the Mursaat, however if you do not believe me, ask a high lvl player to run you to Draknor or the Iron mines and try fighting the mursaat.  Believe me, without ascansion, you cannot get infused and without infusion, you are NOTHING against the Mursaat.  They would 1 hit you dead.)

    C. I dont respect you.  You dont deserve it.

Guilds:  Yes having the right guild is important.  But having the right guild means, having good players who arent selfish and are willing to help others.  Having people who do not beg (for help, items, cash) all the time, whine, ignore you, act in intollerable manners.  But anyway, joining or making a guild is up to you, and how you handle the guild is also up to you.

So if you are someone thinking about playing Guild Wars, my advice is get to know more about the game first (read the other threads here).  If you are a new player, I wish you all the best and hope you have an enjoyable time.  If you are already a player, I hope we can meet online (in the game) and share our experiences and help each other out.

AND for more info, please check out the official website.

Yes Guild Wars isnt a Massive Multiplayer Online 'Role Playing Game', its a Massive Multiplayer Online 'People vs People' + 'Guild vs Guild' game.  The role playing part of the game is mainly there allowing you to unlock skills for your chars (PvP or Role Playing), make your own guild if you want, design the cape for your guild, find better items.  If you play Guild Wars and just choose to imediately make a PvP char, sure you may get max lvl chars and some max lvl skills and gear, but unless you role play you wont get full access to all the gear and skills available for each profession.
  • zeboathzeboath Member Posts: 396

There is 4 kinds of PvP.

Normal arena, where you team up with people you don't know. There are different arena according to your chr lvl.

Arranged arena, basically like the other one, just where you choose your team members

GvG arranged battle between two teams of 8 players from a Guild. You fight in one of the guild halls where there are certain objectives

Battle for gods favor - If you win a certain number of times in this arena you give the people of your continent favor of the gods, so they can access certain areas of the game.
