Hey, this weekend im hoping to buy a new video card, so when i buy ffxi it will run better..duh
anyway, i got like $108.00 is there anything i can get with that? Because right now im using Nvidia Rivaa TNT2 Ultra. kinda bad eh? lol guess im missing out on all the graphics with this piece of crap. No wonder when i get a game i always remember the screenshots on website being better looking then what i see in the game.
Anyway, advice please.

I am probably going to buy my card from compusa, yes i know its a retail store and its going to be overpriced. but its all i have unless i wnat to drive 30 minutes out of the way, and i dont have a car.
anyway, i just wanted to know which is best, and what is the difference between 64mb 128mb 256mb, ati, geforce fx, geforce 2, geforce 4, radeon 7000..so if anyone could clarify it for me, please do, my limit is limit is like $110.00
if you go to compusa.com and check out vid cards in 50-100.00 range and tell me which would be best for me that would be great. although it would be nice to know the difference between all of those different types.
the higher the number the better, and most here would probably say geforce is better.

I agree with SD. The bigger the numbers, the better, and I do believe GeForce is better. I've seen a lot of professional reviews that say ATI's Radeon is better than nVidia's GeForce family, but I think that's mostly in the high end ($400 - $500) range. NVidia has been too good to me for too long for me to even think about another company, though. Here's a link I found to a good card from CompUSA for $100:

If you really want to get down to the nitty gritty about the differences between video cards (like the difference between the GeForce FX5200 and the GeForce FX5600, or past families like the GeForce4 ti or ATI's cards), you can usually find that information in their websites.

It's mostly just numbers, but it's pretty understandable. Hope this helps!

Apu: "Such a product does not exist, sir! You must have dreamed it."
Homer: "Oh. Well then just gimme a six-pack and a couple of bags of Skittles."

If your looking for a nice cheap card that will be able to handle pretty things like HL2 when it arrives, stick with a 9600pro or look for the bundle 9600xt with HL2. Its more than 110 (maybe200 @ pricewach)but even nvidias top-o-the-line has a hard time beating ati's mid level. Besides the only geforce now that can use DX9 on HL when it shows up will be the 5900ultra (the only card that can handle the 24floating). So youd be stuck with HL2 looking like a PS game if u get anything but a 9600,9800 or 5900.
Vapor (Silent-G)
all those cards suck wtf
My build: Sapphire Radeon HD 4850, Asus P5GC-MX/1333 Motherboard, 4gb G.SKILL DDR2 667MHz RAM, Core 2 Duo e7200 CPU, 250gb Western Digital SATA Harddrive, Windows Vista Home Basic 64-bit.
Geforce = better
You can get a 9800 GT for $129.00 from Newegg...you could also get an 8800 card...they're both solid cards that, assuming you have equal quality stuff in the rest of your computer, will run pretty much any game on the market today (my buddy runs Crysis on almost full graphics with his 8800)
Plus there are a few cards that give you a free game with your purchase...you can get Call of Duty 4 or Farcry 2 along with the card
