The starter kit is now selling for $9.99 at Circuit City, This can't be a good thing. Next week it will be free I'm sure.

And in the next couple of months it will be coasters, tp and something to burn to get the fireplace going me thinks (and hopes :P).
GJ SOE, heres an idea, no monthly fee and then it would be worth it........almost.

Seriously can $9.99 be nothing other than a desperate attempt to lure someone in to try it or just simple buisness fear to not end up with a storage unit filled with unbought kits? a lil both?

the $9.99 price is to gank any last minute suckers during the christmas shopping frenzy. "hmm what can i get joe for xmas, hmm he likes starwars how about this!!", the unknowing do-gooder says. boom and then SOE can subtract another $9.99 from their losses they are obviously counting atm. Bye bye SWG, server shutdown is emminent.

thanks for ruining a great game SOE & LA both suck.

For Circuit City to set the retail price to be at $19.99 then to discount it to $9.99 and for them to make a modest profit, well you get the picture.  The value of the game must be far below that. Given this, what would someone sell it at below retail price, let's say at wholesale cost, like $5.00  Prolly on eBay the starting asking price is around $1.00   image

This is a common miscoception. Retail stores don't make a profit on everything they sell. If you go into Best Buy and all you buy is a computer that is on sale, Best Buy just lost money on you. Most of their computers are sold UNDER what they pay for them. The thing is though, people almost never buy just a computer. They buy a USB cord for the printer that comes with the package, they buy ink and photo paper and regular paper, they buy the insurance etc. This is where Best Buy makes their money back.

Now in the case of SWG software, Circuit City may be taken a hit to move the product, or they may be getting reinbursed by LucasArts is some sort of a brokered deal.

Hehe. I could get something way better for $9.99, like a box of oreos, or a dvd.

I was shopping today at a local electronics store and saw a shelf filled with 35 SWG Starter Kit boxes selling for $9.99.  I asked the store manager over the software/games dept when the shipment of these came in and he told me they haven't had very many sells of the starter kits the past two months and also that the store will virtually end up loosing money on all of them with Christmas only 7 days away.

What a far cry this game has become from the days when it cost $29.99 or greater in past years. It's a sad day to see other mmorpg's selling at $49.99 and then see SWG selling for $9.99, heck even some of the bargin bin games are selling at $15.00 to $19.99
