This article was more shameful than the game...BTW, pornographic? Seriously? Is this the 1960s? Nipples are not porn.

This is true but even the 1960s weren't that up tight about seeing a nipple in entertainment media. Playboy had been around since the 1950s and few complained too loudly when Marilyn Monroe showed her nips. It wasn't a degrading experience and it didn't ruin her Hollywood career. You can go back even further and watch some old unrated silent films from 1920s that had random nudity in them for example when Mary Eaton went topless in Glorifying the American Girl. It wasn't considered pornography because there was no genital contact.

Since then there has always been this prudish faction that has tried to turn the clock back to Victorian times. They have been banging the same drum for decades always blaming some entertainment media from movies to video games. At the end of the day they are just a bunch of dinosaurs who don't know their time has passed.

I would say usually i have no problems with ripperx's reviews but this review is shameful, realy dude if you call the game pornographic you need to grow up, and most games now have clevage in the game, with the ability to remove clothing. Game play actualy was fairly good nothing like mind blowing but a refreshing sci fi feel, graphics again not bad not the best but not bad, Game flows nicely with a minor story line and descent pvp. Now for the porno graphic part not seeing it yes true all the girls wear under wear as their clothing but  hey i can name alot of other games where the female armor is just the same so I think you need to get out of the old school church grow up and realise the human body in it's self is not shame ful and degrading, hell let everyone run around naked .

Your statements might have a little more validity if they centered around naked people being ok rather than just naked women being ok.

I just woke up from a nap, so I had to edit my words a bit to make some sort of sense.

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

    1.  They only offend emasculated men who think being offended by boobs will win them brownie points with the ladies.  Plus, they have a very dysfunctional outlook of their own sexual identity which has been molested by the Feminist Society for the past 50 years.

    2.  The ladies don't make sense, especially Feminists.  Want some proof?  Women aren't offended by boobs.  It's a natural part of the body to them.  They are offended, however, by heterosexual men who are attracted to the female body.  And as we all know, it makes PERFECT sense for a female to be offended by heterosexual males who find her attractive.

    3.  They complain about guys who stare at their boobs, yet they constantly put them on display for everyone to see as if they had no accountability to their own actions.  Which they don't, because...

    4.  Emasculated men do not hold these women accountable, because they think it will win them brownie points.  Which it won't, because...

    5.  Women do not date emasculated men - period.  They only use them for moral support when their a-hole boyfriend/husband makes them feel bad.  Yet... she loves him for it anyway.  This is evidenced by the fact that she cannot shut up about the a-hole that made her feel bad.

    6.  And the emasculated man allows this because he thinks she will fall in love with him because he treats her with the respect she somehow automatically deserves.

    7.  Except she doesn't deserve his respect, because she has done absolutely nothing to deserve it.  All she has done for the emasculated man is think of herself.

    8.  Some men and women might be offended by this, but reality proves that their opinion doesn't matter.  Women only date guys who make her think about someone other than herself, and treats her like trash when she behaves like a bitch.

    9.  Emasculated men would never do this, and as a result, have to compensate by supporting her on what she thinks offends her, but actually turns her on.  He will do this even though his biology says her boobs are HAWT.

    10.  And unless one of his bro's in the know gives him a punch in the balls - he will live the rest of his life not understanding why he cannot get any play.

Consider this your punch in the balls.

I decided to take a look at this game, I found I hardly noticed the scantily clad characters whilst I was adventuring, you probably spend a few minutes looking at your character from all angles and then you just don't notice it so much.

Gaming wise I thought it was quite good, plenty of quests and mobs to kill to keep you busy.

Wow, I think I spent more time reading the comments for this than the review, which someone already pointed out had that amazing feel of being the vehicle for someone's soap box moment to let girls know he is pro feminist.

The review was obviously a half hearted attempt at best, with the preconceived notion of "I must not like this"

Couple weeks ago I got bored of Rift, decided to try out SB ... why not, hot chicks and the mechanics for the Whipper class looked interesting. So my girlfriend and I downloaded the game installed it on our PC's and logged in.

The game was initially amazing for both of us ... we are both anime fans so the character styles were gorgeous to both of us, the obvious tongue in cheek humor was actually funny, the outfits were outrageous but awesome, (my gf is desperately staring at her Punisher right now to see if she can re-create one of the outfits) The idea of the society ... why these organic androids are down there ... why you are commanding her ... are all pretty solid story material, if not for the overt sexuality I'm pretty sure there are a number of people that would call the game innovative for their particular take what exactly is the character, you're playing .

The game itself ... The classes are not bad. In fact I'd say the Whipper class is one of the most innovative tank classes I've seen for some time .. and this coming from a guy that changes mmo's every month or 2. The other classes are just tweaks on old stuff. (The medic being a crit class was interesting)

The textures on the player models , while not very diverse, are outstanding ... to say the least ... but the world and the mobs are lacklustre.

The game really falls apart as you move past lvl 20 when you realise, with the skill system the way it is, you will be using the same skill's from now till max lvl and you'll simply be lvling the strength of these skills maybe adding 1-2 more skills en-route.  Obvious this sets off the "boring" alarm in your head.

Now that the technical is out of the way lets talk about the TnA.

    SEX SELLS ...

Really is that so surprising ... you think Justin Beiber is popular because he can sing. No all those little girls want him to bone them.

Guys and Gals are different in what they fantasize about ... but both these fantasies lead to sex. Its a primal urge .. we really cant help it. Girls like the actual fantasy while guys like the TnA ... but both end in sex. It's why guys have stashes of porn and girls have stashes of "romance" novels. Obviously I'm generalising but this is generally true. We can go more into proof of this and the pockets of people that don't adhere to this but in the end everyone responds to "sex"... thus sex sells.

Any way this aside, the game does not actually portray women in a perverse light. Yes, they are held up as sexual objects, yes, they are VERY overt, yes, it's probably impossible for some of the clothes they are wearing to actually stay on BUT ... unlike many other games, that step around the fact that what they are portraying is sexual ... this game is loud and proud about it even pokes fun at itself ... and  SAYS at it's inception that this is an adult game. As someone before me said, talking badly about this games use of the female form, is like saying there is too much nudity in porn and I think society, is way past the "porn is only for pervs" stage.

The major point of all this is that the game never pretends to be the most advanced skill based game out there ... it's not trying to make you keep playing a mediocre game because the first set of gear you get in the game shows your characters butt ... no ... this game says its a mmo where you can stare at some sexy shaped pixels, that you can earn gear to dress up even sexier ... and since just staring can probably get boring ... here some skills to use to kill some ppl while you're at it ... oh and we have a fun storyline with great, funny, npc character interactions, to fill in the blanks.

Personally I love the idea, its funny, sexy and gives the feel of a dirty little secret that you really want to talk about ... though girls like to stare too, they should add some male models to the game, but the problems with the game after lvl 20 are way too much for me to keep playing ... (the skill system, the lvl grind) Oddly my girlfriend loves the pvp combat and the mecha suits so while I'm now trying out DC Universe she is still on SC.

And no my GF and I are not 2 little anime teens trying to be "open" to ideas. I'm an accountant and she's soon to be a lawyer. This is just to give context on the demographic the opinion is coming from. Heh and she just read my post and gave me her stamp of approval lol.

Oh and before i go, some people above were saying that having these type of characters in games will help (along with movies etc) make men "expect " more from women ... and be the cause of a raising sexual assault rate. To these people I would like them to take a look at the sexual assault rate in conservative countries ... read up on how much higher it probably is because in most of those countries women are blamed for rape and are punished for it so its never reported ... then take a look at the assault rate in sexually open countries where people have no problem acknowledging that they enjoy their sexuality ... draw your own conclusions.

So here's why Scarlet Blade did it this way: We are now up to 364 posts and 30k views and thats just this site.....How many people are talking about any other browser game? How many posts does a Mystical Land or Lands of Elveron have (if you have even heard of those)?.......Their goal with this game was simple: To make money and use sex to do it...Sure it offends alot of people but they got the attention they wanted right?

No they are not.  Sorry you contradict yourself with your very last word in your statement.  A breach of a social or moral code doesn't not define aesthetics.  That is part of the same argument made by those who claim aesthetics and art are purely subjective.  They are not.

What defines good music?  When you hear a song do you base your judgement purely on the lyrics because you might find them offensive?

It's not a browser game (though on its bad days it is looking like a weaker, Unity-based one :) ), but I agree the rest. Actually back in the first thread about the ads I wrote the same... Aeria marketing dudes are laughing their heads off how much media attention the game received with only a few ads and with the theme of the game.

Worse thing about necros is; you can't comment on the goobers doing it, without serving up another bump. Oh well.

Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.

originally i thought it looks terrible then when bored i actually  thought about trying this game  briefly but i dont play as a chick in video games i have too much caballerismo

i laugh at the people who complain about these characters being in skimpy little outfits...last time i checked pornos usually require no clothing at all and a lot of actual sex.  i never saw a porno that was all about women trying to "save the world" so to speak. but maybe that is just me? At the end of the day Yes this game gets pretty boring pretty fast. But i didnt really find it offensive. they wanted to try something new and everybody knows "sex sells" and it worked! even if its nothing but a bunch of women complaining about the game being "offensive" (which its not) people still talk about this game a lot and give it all the attention the creators wanted it to get.

I'm thinking it's possible that the comments on this article offer more entertainment value than the game itself.

I've actually considered trying this game even though I'll probably uninstall it almost immediately  because I'm sure it's a crappy game, not because of boobs.  I like boobs.  A lot.  Not necessarily pixel boobs...but anyways.

F2P games all suck donkey since F2P sucks donkey but it does give you the ability to try what always ends up a crappy game without paying anything.

The comment system on MMORPG sucks almost as much as the writing, which, is generally pretty poor.  This "review" is a good representation of the amateur nonsense that gets published here.  This is one of the TWO reviews on metacritic for this game, so good job with that.  It's probably the only time MMORPG.com has ever been listed as a review source on metacritic - that's how far they had to dig to find any reviews for this pile of skank.

And seriously - nobody wants to scroll endlessly - paging has been part of the web for some time now.  Hire some real web developers or find some volunteers with a clue or use a canned package.  Anything.

Premium MMORPGs do not feature built-in cheating via cash for gold pay 2 win. PLAY to win or don't play.

Scarlet Blade is based off of an anime which featured scantily clad females. They (Aeria Games) saw this as an opportunity to make money off of a target audience, mainly teenagers/young adults. Yes it may be degrading to some but it basicly boils down to this: if your offended by it,don't play it.

    "Shameful Pornographic Design".

    Seriously?????

There is NO SEX seen in the game. Nudity, yes. Sense of Humor? Yes. I'll even give you implied sex (does ANYONE NOT think Mark is a Creep?). Of course, your existence implies your parents had sex. Porno? Not even close. Why pick up a PLayboy if you don't like pictures of nude women? And yes, this is Playboy level smut. NOT Porno.

Shameful is a highly subjective term, and the Author clearly demonstrates some major issues with the Female body being on display. I could grant him a grain of credibility if I'd seen a minor treatise on Objectification. Clearly, however, the Author has some issues. Well, we all do. I myself have issues with the extremely common depiction of a man being nailed to a wooden apparatus and left to suffocate to death (look up the actual physiology and mechanics of crucifixion sometime) for it's ultra violent implications. I, however, don't go into places where I can expect to be exposed to that image/sculpture.

THE GAME CLEARLY DISPLAYS AN "M" RATING. It lists Nudity as one of the reasons. If you don't like Idealized drawings of nude women, stay away. He**, the advertising centers around it. Don't slam the game for daring to fill a niche market.

Frankly, I find the game entertaining and amusing, but I don't take MMO's seriously. Oh, and what Bots are you talking about? I've been playing @ a month and find the social aspect no better or worse than other MMO's I've tried.

It's unfortunate the the reviewer didn't bother to do more than a cursory play through of the game.  It seems that the reviewer went: "AH BOOBS!" and didn't bother to look any further.

After having spent quite a few  hours at the game, I'd noticed that there's an actual back-story and the quests dialogue is worth reading (unlike most games).  Wander over to the game website and take a look for yourself, don't just take my word for it.   While the game continues the trend of scantily clad females, that's hardly anything to get excited about.  I can't say that I even recall ever even seeing nipples on display.  If you think you're going to see naked ladies running around, you're going to be disappointed.  Try Second Life for that sort of entertainment.

I find the graphics to be quite acceptable for an MMO on the market.  It's not cartoonish nor is it overly memory intensive.  Even a mediocre computer will run this game smoothly.  Gameplay isn't complicated though some of the stronger mobs require a bit of skill to properly defeat.  It's not unusual for a field boss to have 4x your hp and have nearly the same damage curve as you.

It's not a tab+attack game.  Yes, it's tab targeting and as a forty something with carpal tunnel, I rather glad to find a game that doesn't rely on so called action content.  If I wanted to play that kind of game, I fire up my playstation . . . .

My good lord, it seems not only the game content but also this game's online ads are terrible as hell --- they somehow have to feature Japanese female game characters like Cammy from Street Fighter II, Tifa and Sera from Final Fantasy, and Mikasa from Attack on Titans, that have nothing to do with this miserable game, in order to attract players...?! This is just totally pathetic...Just try reload the following page a few times. Seriously, these ads are for this pathetic game, claiming that these characters are in the freaking game!!

Sex sells, get over it. You have a choice and one is not to complain about it. You are either for it or not...simple really. If I don't like something I just avoid it.  If I hated porn (which I don't) you wouldn't catch me in a sex shop telling the owner his/her shop is awful, that would be just weird.

I don't know why you, George Dimmock, felt that way. But let me ask, how can you possibly degrade or shame a character that isn't real? What next, artists who draw naked women are degrading and shaming these women they draw? I am so sick of people trying to argue that the mere sight of breasts, real or fake, is somehow objectifying women and degrading them. You know what is objectifying women? Forced prostitution in third world countries, for example. But not this game. So maybe you should worry about that more and not a bunch of fictional characters in a video game.

Well said!  People need to take video games less seriously.  If you don't like it, don't play it.  The game looks like crap.  That is the main reason I wouldn't play it lol.
