They said certain cut scenes, and I just came across the first one looks like in the instance bit. The level 5 main story quest is all voiced. English voices are pretty well done IMO.
Just important cut scenes, regular character dialogue will not be voiced. They won't be adding voices to regular dialogue ever either, they said they would rather be able to add content at a faster rate than if they would be to get voice actors for everything they make.
Thank God there is no voice acting. (well very little voice acting anyway). It gives the game a classic feel, and I dont feel like pulling my hair out having to wait for them to shut up so i can kill stuff

You're still going to get long voiced cut scenes. This is a final fantasy game after all.

If you say so.
I don't see much point in having cut scenes in a AAA MMORPG if there's no voice acting. Enduring the cutscenes without voice is pretty brutal and just doesn't have the same quality, look, or feel.
Plus they force you to go thru the intro bit, which gives the game a grand entrance, yet when it's over it's same old same old - you're dumped into the city and there's 100 people other level 1's that look just like you swarming the city (then outdoor noobie) quests. I don't see the point in an overdone intro to the game either especially if there's no VO since it just feels dry and empty (maybe there'll be VO for that for launch...the overall DL size for FFXIV was half or less of what I'd expect from a typical MMORPG).
Premium MMORPGs do not feature built-in cheating via cash for gold pay 2 win. PLAY to win or don't play.
Maybe it is my age, I'm 37 but I feel the game is more immersive when I read the text not hear it. I grew up playing RPGs that you read every line and I loved those games. I don't feel the same connection when I hear an actor saying the lines. Not to mention I can read the lines much faster than the a tors say them, so I get agitated waiting for them to finish.
If there is one thing i learned from SW:TOR, its that no matter how well done the voiceovers are, they don't actually add anything to the game. I would far rather they spent their time/resources on content than bulking up the client with even more voice files. I like that Square Enix are concentrating on in game content and not gimmicks that may or may not appeal to people.

A lot of people who grew up with games that didn't have voice overs, I.E. the Final Fantasy rpg seem to have no issues with reading the story. Frankly I attribute my large vocabulary and excellent spelling as a child to playing video games that required me to read multiple novels for the story.
Level 17 now and starting the 3 dungeons and just a note, if you do use the Japanese audio, a lot of times they're saying something completely different. It won't matter too much I don't think, but just a heads up.

Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the the universe.

Some look at things and begin with the premise....."what's wrong with this" ?
Others look at a thing and accept it for what it is,and then make their personal evaluation.
If you say so.

Now days gamers don't want to read ... they don't want to type ...
For crissakes ... what is going on with you people?
It's an MMORPG game, not a movie!!!
Stop being lazy. It won't hurt anyone to read a little now and then!!
