There Better Be Real Time Skill/Action Based Combat!!!

Imperator101Imperator101 Member Posts: 131
I am hoping for gameplay that will be similar to an FPS if you are a Mage type class when casting spells. There should also be  an optional first person view where you can see your weapon. Melee combat should be similar to Skyrim but tweaked a lot more so it would be more skill based. Obviously your armor/weapon power will be a huge factor to.

Ayoo !  I really hope not I get FPS headaches and cannot play games that require my hands to move a lot .Thinking may be early onset of arthritis and also my shoulder aches if I play even Tera too much.

As an old EQ player I'm praying they do not do this to me.

I would rather have team focused tactical combat rather than button slapping FPS style combat.

I most admit the oldschool whack-a-mole combat have become a complete deal-breaker to me, it should at the very least have dodging, free form casting, no rooting while casting etc. something in the line of gw2 would be fine ( in regard to the actual combat)

SOE did a very good job with "next-gen" combat in DCUO, so i expect they'll continue building on that, while still maintaining some of the EQ/EQ2 feel in terms of the large number of abilites.

Well at least we will all know what sort of gameplay it will have today. Generic MMORPG is pathetic, it does not require as much skill and everything comes down to your gear.

Ugh, please no. I don't need another Neverwinter-esque no variety mash fest. EQ games are known for their broad skill sets and multi page spellbooks.

Dude, then why are you not playing Mortal Online...  but instead suggesting that EQn needs to be the game you demand? Go play THOSE game you want... instead of sitting on the fence demanding laughable things from SOE.

I think it should have something along the lines of GW2, also in order to hit you should actually make contact. Also there should be some type of tanking aspect...i think gw2 dropped the ball with that. Also mages standing still while casting, personally there should be both. Case in point if you were a mage..do you really think you should be able to cast a fireball and dodge at the same time, that's why your spells do so much damage...you actually have to concentrate.

However if you get the option to cast and move then your spells should decrease in effectiveness...hence why you have a tank to distract the target so you can sit there and concentrate on casting. Matter of fact the mage should have a shield minion to keep the enemy distracted so the mage can cast. Makes no sense to have a mage running around casting, with high damage as well. There should be a trade off.

Tanks should have better defense when they don't move the more damage they soak up the better the defense. Range as well logically can not shoot effectively and run, so there should be a trade off in damage as well but when they stay still to focus their damage goes up. So perhaps something to hide behind or a distraction.

No, it is that you do not have much skill @ playing games that require quick thinking, not quick movement.

If you want twitch action skill, then why are you not embroiled in Battlefield 3..?  Or is that too much of what you ask and you really have zero clue what you are talking about. As EQ was based not on mashing buttons, but having the right spells skills loaded... in KNOWING your character and his skills. Not using a skill in battle was just as important as using it.

You do not get this, because you are enthralled in mashing buttons for action... lol

How do you make a game that can be played with a PS4 controller and yet has a ton of skills requiring a ton of buttons to press?

And to be honest, dumbed down gameplay is my worst worry about this game since I learned it would be for console too.

I don't know, however I do remember playing FF11 on my what PS2 and I used a controller for that. I also had a keyboard hooked up to it as well to type so it is doable. I had no issues playing that game, but then again I'm not sure how the action bars/combat set-up will be for this game so I think it's a wait and see.

Whatever you just said, i want the opposite. If you want a FPS type game your in the wrong genre. Sure some MMOs have sold their souls for more players but FPS style combat has no place in MMOs.

why do you have to use the controller? You know you can hook up a keyboard and mouse to it right?

Start a petition lol. Ill sign it. Not like it matters at this point but would be interested to know how many people do NOT want action, fps type combat in their mmos.

With the hundreds of F2P FPS games out there I wish mmo developers would leave that type of combat for FPS games. MMORPG is more about social interaction and role playing than killing mobs and rolling about the place. My one hope for EQN is that it has tab targeting or a version of it.

All so the only games confirmed for PS4 is duco and planetside 2 . Smed said maybe in the future so to me that meens it is developed as a PC game and it may be ported to PS4 if possible .

I prefer the classical MMORPG combat...in particular i like that some skills like dodge, parry, block are automatic and based on character's race, class , level, spec. and abiliy scores and not on player's reflexes.

    Agreed.

And I love how people seem to think that just because combat is faster paced and allows more freedom, there can't be a tactical element...

    You mean "Spam Based Combat"?
  • sayuusayuu Member RarePosts: 766

    Oh yes,

EQNext is going to have Action FPS style combat with tab targeting spells and actions in a sandbox no quest hub themepark quest hub world with seamless zone transitions and instances that one loads into with FFA PvP full loot on their PvE only servers with no PvP player death loot all while running on one massive worldwide server split into non-linked shards locked to each region. . .

. . .If your a passenger on this hype train that is. . .
