Son Banned on DC.

I've been playing MMO's since before they were called MMO's.

When I was young and dumb (around 11-12) I found a quick way to play my favorite MUD at the time.  Basically I created a macro that would comb through the MUD to find things I was looking for (back then I couldn't use google, it was infoseek I believe).  Anyways... it was the first and only time I was banned from a game.  Kinda shocked me back then.  I learned an important lesson that I've taken with me throughout my life.  Don't cheat.  Basically, from my understanding, your son did a similar thing.  This is very much a learning experience.

Does he become that 12 y/o shouting obscenities at you when he's playing against you in COD or is he the kinda kid that shuts up, plays, has fun, and no one ever realizes is underage?

OP, I just left DCUO and SOE for this exact reason.  I've had an account with SOE for about 8 years.  In all that time, I have never used a hack or cheat, nor have I ever been accused of such.  In November, I started having latency/connectivity issues with the game, right after a Game Update.  I had no issue with any other game, just DCUO.  One day the game crashed, and when I relogged, it said may account was suspended for hacking.  I tried numerous times through numerous channels, but SOE refused to give me ANY details whatsoever about what may have caused the issue.  The exact same situation happened again in March, with the same refusal to give me any information or work with me in any way.  I cancelled my sub to the game, and quit playing.

Since I was on a 90-day sub, there was still some time before my sub officially ran off.  With a few days left, I logged back into the game to clear off some unused characters in case I ever decided to play again as F2P.  As I was offloading items and cash between toons, the game crashed while switching characters.  When I went to relog, my account was banned.  I wasn't even actually playing the game in any meaningful way, I was simply e-mailing items from one character to the next, hardly anything that would require exploiting.  I actually laughed when the ban message popped up.  Again, I tried to reach out to SOE on the matter, making it clear in my help ticket that I really wanted to figure out what the issue was.  I sent them the DXdiag file, and offered to send anything else that would be of assistance.

Not only was my offer refused, but I received a nasty response from "GM Mephistocrat" telling me that SOE's "hack detection" software was never wrong, and that I was definitely exploiting.  At that point, I was done.  I sent a final reply to the GM asking if their "hack detection" software was as reliable as the server security responsible for losing 100's of millions of customers' personal information, including mine, to actual hackers.  I have no idea what would have been the issue with the game, and after so many years of playing SOE games, as a paying customer, without incident, I thought I'd at least be given the benefit of the doubt and some assistance.  I got neither.  I just chalk it up as a lesson on why Sony finds itself in the financial turmoil that it's in today.  My advice is to dump SOE and find a better company to do business with.

That makes sense since we just switched to U-verse and they are doing the upgrade in my area. I called the support today and asked what was the problem. They said they couldn't tell me because that would let the hackers know what was working and what didn't. I told them to let the GM email more or call me and show me the problem, the CS said he would.

But there are numerous people on the forum saying the exact same thing. The nay sayers here (and trolls), can say what they want and believe what they want. But my son was not hacking and after investigating more, I am more sure that he wasn't.

I have a 9-yr old nephew, not much younger, who is years away from understanding anything about hacking or getting on to porn sites, so there are some kids who are not wise in the ways of the world yet.

Once again, like the op, you "Think" he does not. Stop acting like because you are related you have some sort of fucking psychic ability to know everything your damn child relatives know and can do.

Like other people have said, at 10 years old I knew how to hack a game like almost any other person sitting with me in the computer room at school, I did not even own a computer and I could do it.

I would bet a big wad of cash that the child did it.

Op needs to stop being willfully blind to his child.

Maybe follow your own advice and stop "blindly" believing  the worse of  people all the time. Or do you maybe have some  psychic ability we should all be aware of ? You reached out across the cosmos like Charles Xavier from X-MEN and reached into this childs mind and saw he was lying to his dad!!!

Very Impressive do you do any other tricks?

It's possible the kid did lie but it also possible he didn't, there is no way any of us can know this one way or the other. Dad should have used this moment to teach his son something better than what he chose though.

*snip*  I think I will go with Sony thanks.

    *snip*

    There's your problem.

I am not a sony hater but sony has in the last couple years shown itself to be very unreliable in certain areas and sadly account security is one of them.

i think the OPs son was either using an in game glitch, or was a facilitator in another players online Hack, sort of a money launderer, or he is an innocent bystander in a player to player trade or money transfer, I know in eve-online players have lost  in-game money and a few temp bans due to another players selling them or trading them, items bought with improper in-game money

I will take the high road OP.

I will take your word that your son "would never", fine fine. I do however have a 10 year old child and some experience dealing with them. Since it wasn't a permaban, I suspect it went down like this: Your son found maybe a broken mob or spawn and preceded to exploit it. Most probably without knowing it was wrong to do so. But if reported of log checked by the GMs, he was cheating.

No offence, but if you had been in game with him, or watching him play, this wouldn't have happened.

First my son tells me that he is banned. I look at his email and sure enough, there was a email from SOE. Before I wrote the support I done a scan, nothing.

My son swears up and down that he never even done it. I believe him without question. So he is banned for 3-4 days, without him doing anything.

I am only putting this here as a warning to you guys. I know some of you may be skeptical (hell I would too). But we as a family are getting rid of our SOE accounts. For a company to do this and show no proof or even say what he was doing, is a company I will not support any longer. We both were subs...........

I would ask sony in a ticket, or call them if they have a phone and ask them for details about the ban if they refuse to provide it then yes I would quit sony.

Sony as a service puts consumers last as when they target George Hotz, and compromised millions of user accounts knowing what would happen because of their mistakes I was a sony customer myself for years, but I disagree with their entire gaming service now its complete crap.

EverQuest 2 wont even run properly on my pc, its my pc at fault, same thing with Planet Side cant max out graphics or lag, but any other game works perfectly yeah I don't know but its only sony's games that work like crap I would say from experience DCUO the only game that would run decent although I quit because after awhile it gets very boring constant repeating, limits when I should be able to learn all ability and power on a single character and freely change them out.

While Sony has the right to ban, an account for any reason as per TOS, they usually have very bad customer service, now another thing I can think of besides your son using hacks, its possible that he accidently used an exploit or glitch in game which again isn't his fault maybe he didn't know  or know how to report bugs as he is only 10 and sony banned the account for 4 days again sony's fault for allowing the glitch in the first place.

I would do a complete scan on the computer, and just check for hacks just in-case and also consider the fact that the account could have been compromised, change email/password just in-case.

After looking and looking at my son's computer, no hacks, no nothing other than Steam, World of Tanks/Planes and Origin.

And I have been looking at the DC forums and there are way too many people talking about getting banned for no reason.

My son was telling me the truth.

I am only posting that if you happen to get banned you have two choices. One is to deal with it, the other is to quit.  There is nothing you can do , so please don't waste your time.

Also you may not have done anything wrong to get banned. I have no idea what SOE's software looks at when flagging a account. But if you or your son gets banned at least by DC universe, take it easy..................

I believe your son did nothing wrong

my 8 yr old nephew got banned in GW2 for unknown reasons - he appealed it w my assistance and got unbanned

I think wrongful bans are very frustrating, especially when the game company doesnt spell out what you did wrong

I remember I was a computer whiz at the age of 11 and using my Commodore Vic 20 and making games out of machine language.

So could your son be hacking a game at the age of 11, it's possible, but just playing devils advocate here and not accusing your son of anything.

Just know even at 11, we are pretty damn smart as well to figure things out.

I was also banned and IDK what the hell a "Hack" is or even how to get one.

FYI, I was banned from DCUO PS3 version.

I got a letter the other day from SOE stating they were sorry for the inconvenience and gave me 1000 Loyalty Points for my trouble and gave me a free month of Legendary.

Dosent make up for it but it's a start.

It pays to fight back. I will NOT be quitting the game or SOE games because of a mix up.

    ha!

was thinking the exact same thing. i think many people on this site are the kind of people who totally obey the rules, do what they're told at work, etc. but secretly they fantasize about being a total scumbag.

so when someone may or may not have acted like a total scumbag many users here can only assume that this person did what they personally have been fantasizing about for so long.

I think the problem is the OP posted it on a gaming site where most people have been gaming forever so they most likely knew all the cheats at a young age. I was a different kind of nerd back then though strictly  pen &paper rpgs. I never even owned a computer until 99.

This thread is hilarious.  Apparently the majority of people in this thread were geniuses as kids and breaking into top secret installations.  As a 10-year old I had no idea how to do any of this and expect very few kids do either.  As I said before,  i would sooner believe a concerned parent than people here claiming this kid is a hacking genius and must be guilty.
