Tired of Fantasy MMORPGs

ATM i am playing Dark Age of Camelot and having fun with it but I find myself alot of times getting tired of the whole "Pick up a sword and fight" routine. I have played many MMORPGs like Everquest 1 and 2, Dark Age of Camelot(as mentioned above), Lineage II, and World of Warcraft just to name a few. They are all great games IMO but in just so sick and tired of Fantasy. I am looking for a good Sci-Fi type of game. I have tried EVE Online, Matrix Online, and I am currently Beta testing Face of Man Kind(boring). But i really didnt get into those games for various reasons. For instace I didn't like the training system for EVE so I left that. One game that I truly liked that was Sci-Fi was called Project Entropia. I loved everything about that game except the economy and how u have to put real money into the game to play it(not a monthly fee, you put money in the game and it becomes game money).

To make a long story short I am sort of looking for a decent FPS that has some type of character advancement and NPCs to kill. Even if its not a FPS ill take a look at the game just as long as it is not Fantasy. If you know of any games like this or upcoming games please reply. I have been looking for months for a decent Sci-Fi game with little or no luck image

    I never played planetside and have often wondered if it was any good. It does kind of fit what you're asking about, but I don't know if it's good or bad.

    Have you tried SWG?  Being a Star Wars MMO, it certainly fits the Sci-Fi requirement, and it's also recently been converted to a FPS like combat system.  There's a free trial available to download at www.tryswg.com image

    I have looked into SWG and it looks pretty cool. But the only thing that troubles me is that when i read alot of online fourms about this game most of them consist with "the latest expansion pack killed the game". I am hesitent to try it out but i guess ill try anything once.

    Also i looked into Planet Side and it looks pretty cool i think i might try it. Is there a free version you can Download to try it out or do u have to buy it to try it out. Also i know you can buy it online but can you also buy it at a computer store like Best Buy.

    Another thing could some1 give me the general gameplay and story line behind planet side. Thank You for the input so far.

    There are lots of sci-fi games in development. But speciifically FPS? You may want to check out Huxley by Webzen in terms of a future game. It sounds roughly like what you describe.

    Not really the expansion, but the overhall of the game.  If you're new to the game, the issues posted are not really going to affect you as the changes were made to be new player friendly :)  At the end of the day, the game isn't dead yet (despite what you might be told) and if you find it fun why not play it image.  Pretty cheap to get too, think it's $15 at BestBuy for the week.

    Yes Lepidus I have looked at Huxley and i have applied for beta testing for Fallen Earth. It looks like a great game with awesome graphics but the ETC is about 9 months away and it is not even in beta stage. Although i doubt that I would get accepted to beta testing or if there is even one. I am going to restate my first post and when i say a furture game i want to be able to beta test the game now.

    You can also get both SWG and planetside accounts under the same bill/month with the station full access pass. I think it's like $22 a month and it lets you play most SOE mmogs. I could never willingly condone giving SOE that much money but if you want to.....image

    We can all yell names at you till we're blue in the face. That's the lot of them ;)

    The most hyped ones are RF Online, Fallen Earth and Huxley. You can beta test RF Online either now or very soon (it's late, my memory fails me).

    As to released games... Planetside is close to your description. As is Endless Ages, which I believe has a free trial.

    The fact that players are saying "the latest expansion pack killed the game" should NOT bother you if you have not played it before. After all...what do you know?

    Planetside is cool, but ageing fast. Story?? eh, war? That about sums it up really. lol. Sure they have put on a "cover story" but its pretty thin.

    Lepidus I took a look at Endless ages and from the screens I glanced at it doesnt look like my type of game. All the character models look so...wierd. Its just not my style. I know I shouldnt judge a book by its cover and all but I don't think I'll be trying that one out.

    I also looked at RF Online a while ago. Is RF Online made by the same people as lineage 2? It looks exactly the same except the programmers threw in a gun and a few mechs. I might still check it out but it sort of looks the same thing.

    I think I am going to try out Planetside for now and see how I like it. I am also going to take a look at SWG. Both games look great. To bad they are both run by Sony. We know how they like to screw up games and make bad decsions image (IMO).

    Both RF online and L2 have the same feel because they're both asian games ( not a bad thing ) RF has been out in Korea for about a year. Codemasters is remaking the game so to speak for the North American market. It's focus will probably be very heavy on the PvP side and light on the questing/PvE content side, at least to start.  They have lots of events that involve PvP, but if you're a quester I doubt you'll like the game much.

    As for SOE screwing up planetside and SWG, I think they've probably done about as much damage as they can with both games. So if you try it now and like it, it's probably safe to assume the games wont suffer any massive changes any time soon.
