Wow interesting perspectives. I remember right after mop people were guessing subs would hit 16-17 million.
Now the numbers are reporting half that and going down slowly. Interesting what the numbers will be like one year from now.
Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!
I can see it being at 9.6 mil. Its definately dropping but they are fairly aggressive with their "come back for 7 days" offers. I've went back a couple times, to see if friends were playing, etc.
Nothing can stay on top forever, they are bound to drop sometime.

Tbh i found that "back for 7 days" offer rather mocking me off. Since i quit 2 weeks pre Cata, i don't own Cata nor MoP and hence couldn't do ANYTHING in the game. Couldn't use a portal or accept a single quest, so i run some circles in Orgr and logged out.
They should have at least enabled Cata on old WotLK-accounts for those 7 days.
Their numbers have always been a bit dodgy and people have questioned them about it before. A huge majority of their subscriptions are from Asia. Only a fraction are in the EU and US....
But in Asia the subs work differently (and it's dirt cheap). You pay for credit and it doesn't get used while your offline, so as long as the credit reads above 0 they could technically say it's an active subscription. Not like in EU/US where you cancel and it stops at the end of the month.

While the other MMORPG's are now down to zero subscriptions, I think 8-9 million is quite awesome.

I don't remember that at all. Nobody ever said 16-17 million. Ever.
