I can only dream for this to be implemented...

Great ideas scar, I would love to see things like non-combat classes and housing put into game, although I think we're dreaming in color on that account.

I would also LOVE to see a profession that involved changing character looks, like Image Designers in SWG. I think alot of times players will start off liking the look of their character and then would jump at the opportunity to make soom tweaks later in game. They might even take the chance to add in a few extra variations and special additions that such a profession could use.

    Anyways... just my thoughts.

Lol, I was just thinking yesterday that some type of Image Designer would be nice. Maybe not so much as a class or profession, but an npc that you could visit in cities.

Make the cosmetic artists goblins or something like that for fun. ::::31::

The current rumor on housing is that guild halls will be the first instanced option. I'd be all for housing, as long as it was instanced in the major cities, like Stormwind or Orgimar. One of the aspects I absolutely detested about SWG was player cities. That just led to large open vistas of repetative nothingness.

I know some of these ideas are from SOE games, they do have really good ideas though! Only problem is SOE can't make a good mmorpg to save their life.

I really like how WOW plays but i just get soooo bored, just having to combat all the time gets boring!

I want more depth and fun stuff.

Entertainer as a class? not if completely non-combat.... but would be nice to have A) a bard class that can entertain and/or B) a secondary/primary trade profession about music... even if i have no idea what it oculd give, maybe some different buffs ;)

Some of the highest loot of the best monsters ARE "Schematics" already :)

Well, WE know Blizzard is working on housing, at least Guild housing for the moment. housing without ability to customize somewhat your house is ridicolous, so we can well hope for this one.

Yeeeeeh!! i wanna a customizable Goblin Shredder!!! erm.. sorry. this one is the most unprobable i think. Mecha combat in warcraft??

Weather system has been confirmed to be in the work :)

I know what you mean... I played WoW since beta and it was solo for me most of the time. But finaly I find a realy good guild with mature people (Archaic Warriors on Skywall server) and that changed a lot for me. The guild is a small one, but thats good becuase I was and still am in other high end guilds and they do nothing but raid, there is not much socializing in there, its all about business. My advice is try to find a guild, a smaller guild with mature people in it where people play to have fun and not to beg, whine, brag, plevel, farm or take part in other unsociable activities.

I like your idea, it could be like the costume shop they have in City of Heroes. You could go in and for a little fee, and I mean VERY little fee, you could change the style and colour of your hair and dye your armor a different colour. I'm also two thumbs up for the housing idea which I'm pretty sure that most everyone else is to.

One of my only gripes is lack of player customization.

I just wish there were more details... it's a tad depressing when you see your EXACT clone quite often.

The problem with traditional MMORPGs (including World of Warcraft) is that when you hit the level cap, there's really not much else to do.

I agree completely.  This is why it would be a good idea to add 3 or 4 minigames and DEFINITELY instanced housing.  This dramatically increase the social value of the game, which to me, is the most important aspect.   Of course it you have instanced housing there need to be shops that open up containing merchandise for your personal home (example: Anarchy Online).
  • jimmyman99jimmyman99 Member UncommonPosts: 3,221

Strategic minigames would freshen up the gameplay itself and bring a different style altogether - heck, if it will be deep enough, WoW could even be the first MMORPG-RTS game!

Firstly; after reading the thread I went to the under development page on the official site.

    http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/underdev/

Unlike previous times I have checked there the proposed additions do not look very promising. More high end raid content, some sketchy info about the patch, that's about all. No hints about anything else, player housing, hero classes....

I doubt that ANYONE in the current dev has a single inspirational bone in their entire collective bodies.

Secondly: since this is a wishlist thread, albeit one Blizzard will NEVER read, I'll list some things I'd like to see added, though I doubt they ever will.

    Profesions.

    • New profession; fletching, so that hunters can make their own bows and arrows.
    • New class-only, professions, in addition to actual tradeskills and secondary skill. Warriors get to repair armor and weapons and sharpen weps, oil them, maintain them, improve their efficiency, and other combat related additions. Hunters and druids have nature skills, foraging and making of natural balms, and items that buffs. A hunter would be able to forage for pet food, and fletching components, and be gifted at making a camp fire, with additional benefits.
    • A quest for a THIRD profession that you can do if you max out the first 2, which when completed allows you to start that third trade.
    • Construction professions, to go with the idea of player housing. Cabinet maker;build chests and cupboards for storage, shelves or trophy racks to display blue and purple armor and weps. Glass maker, to provide windows. Weaver to make tapestires for guild banners, importable designs, even pictures of your own char in cloth form.

    Non Combat mini games/content.

    • Pub games in the taverns, darts, drafts, skittles, roulette wheel.
    • Ability to be a Bard/jester, that performs in a tavern, and by doing so gives out some buffs to anyone who stays a while, and they last for an hour or more. Make this work in conjuction with buying a drink for the inn keeper, and the bard gets paid in gold, for the attracting customers.
    • More intuitive quest system based around taverns. Instead of ! above an NPCs head you sit down, have a drink, and listen. NPC text will appear, with hints about quests, so you approach them to find out more. Or you are approached by an NPC for a job, or given a note, ala daggerfall.
    • Small areas in towns set aside as market places. Buy/rent a pitch, in Auberdine, go into seller mode, with sign over your indicating what you are selling, and become an NPC whilst eating your dinner. Or hire an NPC agent to stand in the pitch selling your herbs or cloth, whilst you hunt in the area. The agent takes a cut of your profits, and only a few per small town are allowed.
    • Casino with a range of gambling options.
    • Real fair, not involving hours of grinding to get items, but lots of fun games, and trivial things to do for a few minutes, perhaps while waiting for a group to form. Player Vs NPC or PvP wrestling in a ring, archery/shooting contest, lucky dip.

    World additionals.

    • A wandering gypsy troope that sells unique items, and travels across the land, each maintenance or mini update places them in new location, but logical to the journey they are taking. Perhaps they offer buffs, scrolls, potions, that are different and limited in supply, or get changed with each update, so you never know what they might have.
    • Weather, and world events, triggered by the server. Hurricanes, tornados, volcanoes. 3 days rain in Stormwind, snow in winter.
    • Triggered mini events within an area. For example, where two non A/H factions are fighting you can kill ALL mobs/npcs of one faction, say in a village(witherbark) and the dwarves will move in. After a time a troop of elite witherbark emerge from the hills to take the village back. Let them, or join in and help, with rewards for success, and a bonus item for killing the boss.
    • Special bonus areas behind locked doors (like the Stormwind Officer's mess) which you can enter with good faction, and get new quests, or buy new items.
    • Stuff to do on boats, mail box, tradeskill machine. Ability to tradeskill while riding the griffs.
    • Better, higher level NPC merchants that don't sell the same low level crap that you saw at level 10.

    PvP.

    • New area, non instanced, with open PvP, all servers. No quests, no dishonor for killing non combat npcs. Lots of small towns, bridges, keeps, towers, castles, that can be captured, held, and bonuses produced. No FPS style points system for rewards but somthing more RPG, lore based, medals, titles. This area has no level limit.
    • Extending the above idea, warzones. Get warcraft back into WoW. If one faction can claim the entire zone, ALL players in that faction receive something, everywhere in the world, a buff, boost, something.
    • Some sort of newpaper, bulletin board that reports on the progress of the war.
    • NPC and player interaction in this war.
    • Player loot tables. You get killed in PvP on PvE servers and an item is randomly spawned on your corpse that the killer can loot, a clone of what you already have, so you don't lose said item. On PvP you DO lose the looted item.
    • Bound items CANNOT be looted, but perhaps a clone is spawned, or lesser version, or maybe cash can be looted.

    Alternate Endgame advancement.

    • Quests at level 60 give NO XP, ofcourse, almost no gold, and usually no item. Make ALL quests 55 plus give an item that would in most cases be an upgrade, based on your Class, not something you'll only sell.
    • Epic quest for your mount (all classes) instead of grinding cash.
    • Long quest to find the lore master, random, not something you could look up on allakazam, when complete you can do further quests to improve certain existing abilities, or maybe one or two entirely new ones.
    • Quests for better than epic items. Bag of Holding, cloak of invisiblity, boots of speed, cloak of levitation. Only 10 perhaps of each per server.

I could come up with loads more, but...sadly they'll never see the light of day. Once WoW was shipped I think all the imaginative devs moved on and nothing truly new has been added. They maintain the game now, and produce new content based on the existing, rather than innovation, and totally ignore interesting ideas from the player base, cries for less grind, more variety, refuse to deal with BG queues, hardcore endgame Vs casual needs......

  • jimmyman99jimmyman99 Member UncommonPosts: 3,221

Good ideas there Finduilas. Unfortunately hardly any of that accomplishable. You see, WoW has a huge player base, so in eyes of everyone, WoW is a huge success. And so why change dramaticaly a working business model? Why risk spending a lot of money to drasticaly change WoW. Although all of those things you mentioned are good, but that doesnt mean that programmers will implement it just the right way. There are so many things to keep in mind, balance, gameplay, content, fun factor, age factor... what may be fun for one, may not be so fun for another, so should they implement it so only 1000 people will enjoy it while 100000 will not? Those are the questions that are very hard to answer.

The only real way out of this is only if game doesnt do too well so they HAVE to change it considerably in order to attract more players or if developing company finds a way to create HUGE amount of content for free or at least very very cheap ( player fan made content is a good start, although that brings a lot more issues out.. i.e.: balancing)

So IMHO, WoW will pretty much remain the same untill something new and much better comes out and WoW starts losing players in big numbers. Kinda ironic, eh?

I predict more raiding content, more dungeons, maybe housing, but nothing radical so that the current gameplay will not be affected much (look what Sony did with SWG and what happens if you change gameplay and screw up ).

Untill something new comes out, with WoW casual play style, but with huge alternative play style content, untill that time WoW will remain #1 game. But the trend is beginning to shift already, more and more games with less grind and more variety, more content, more more more.....

Ill see what D&L, D&D, Vanguard show. Maybe they will become next WoW.

    Very true, jim.

I posted something similar to your post in the "is WoW too successful thread" thread. WoW IS too successful, is needs heathly competition. The reason it is as detailed as it is now is because it was being developed alongside EQ2, a sequel to a gaming giant and they expected a tough time. EQ2 would have walked all over WoW otherwise. In fact EQ2 added a large amount of content, copied from WoW, after launch, because SOE was taking the pounding.

You know, years ago, EQ starting adding new features, copied from other games that had stolen some of it's subscribers. When the next batch of games starts to steal signifigantly from WoW, I'm sure BLIZZARD will start the idea stealing again, as they did when first developing the game.

Take the above 3 posts and copy/paste them into a thread in the official WoW forums.  There is a chance that WoW staff will at least SEE them even if they don't ACT on them.

Hmmm... yeah I think I just might do that.  ^_^

I would have done that myself but:

    1. I can only post on the EU forums, and the devs NEVER read them.

    2. I quit, already, so now I can't even post on EU.

*sigh* and such will always be the way as long as money is the driving factor for the dev decisions.
