Meanwhile, this is that one thousandth topic (approximately) about SB, all the same, because it's so much fun shaking our finger and tsk tsking at others.

haha I quite like the faction wearing the slightly superior and condescending facade which has slipped a little by virtue of the fact they can't resist posting.  I might join that one.

Welcome aboard. I must warn you though, nearly every post you make will be reported by someone.

Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.

Other than that the game is a decent themepark from Aeria games. Believe it or not some people can look at a game like that and laugh while not being offended. But hey each to their own. :)

P.S. Do we need gwar to fight the morality squad again?

I totaly agree, it's a decent game with great concept (I love the mix of sci-fi and fantasy).

I don't think this game is pornography (I personally don't like porn), naked woman's body alone isn't porn because then many art works like acts would be consider porn.

I mainly play this game because I like the concept.

This article was more shameful than the game...BTW, pornographic? Seriously? Is this the 1960s? Nipples are not porn.

    Totally agree.

I don't know why you, George Dimmock, felt that way. But let me ask, how can you possibly degrade or shame a character that isn't real? What next, artists who draw naked women are degrading and shaming these women they draw? I am so sick of people trying to argue that the mere sight of breasts, real or fake, is somehow objectifying women and degrading them. You know what is objectifying women? Forced prostitution in third world countries, for example. But not this game. So maybe you should worry about that more and not a bunch of fictional characters in a video game.

That's one of the best post I read in a while!

He did not feel objectified. He felt it objectified women. As you are entitled to your opinion, so is he. You are trying to imply that he doesn't have a right to an opinion because he is a man and only women could speak to whether this material is objectionable.

Personally, I have a wife and daughter who have greatly informed my opinion on how women are represented by society.

Men have women in their lives they love and care about and thus develop opinions on how society views women. I would imagine your own father probably has opinions he has formed about women based upon his relationship with you - hopefully good ones.

But let me ask, how can you possibly degrade or shame a character that isn't real?

Because it is representative of something found in the real world? Red, white, blue, stars and stripes are in reality just a set of colors and shapes - but it symbolizes and represents something else. Our opinions are developed by what things represent or symbolize, not what they actually are.

This is fairly basic to human thought.

What next, artists who draw naked women are degrading and shaming these women they draw?

Well, in your opinion that would be a 'no'. In other opinions that would be a 'yes'.  Some art in fact INVITES the discussion of what is the line between art and pornography. There are muslim and christian societies which destroyed nude greek and roman art. When impressionists in France began drawing nudes of prostitutes and burlesque dancers, it caused huge outcries.

This has been a controversy in art as long as art has existed.

I am so sick of people trying to argue that the mere sight of breasts, real or fake, is somehow objectifying women and degrading them. You know what is objectifying women? Forced prostitution in third world countries, for example. But not this game.

I agree in principle. There are more important things to get worked up about than a video game which objectifies women. But wouldn't you say that 'getting so sick of people' because of a differing opinion is also a complete waste of time?

So maybe you should worry about that more and not a bunch of fictional characters in a video game.

What if an artist created a game where the objective was to force woman into prostitution in 3rd world countries?

QFT.  This is the same conclusion I drew as well.  The objectification here is in the eye of the beholder.  There are plenty of other qualities you could draw from a female heroine, nude or clothed, but George can only conceieve of people seeing one thing - objectified sex.  It doesn't matter whether the objectification was on his part because he also made the assumption that everyone else would feel exactly the same way - "almost naked female, must be sexual object, hurr durr."  Women have a right to be clothed or not it's you the viewer that do not have the right to immediately infer that they are a sex object based on their appearance.

I am not female and I don't play SB.  It's not my style of game due to the game itself not any of the art.  However, it disappoints me that someone would champion women's rights while in reality championing sexism and misogyny (for lack of better terms).

The objection to this game originally )appart from quality) is the fact child-like avatars at sexualised and advertising was clearly aimed at children (or childish adults). That's not to say all adults that play it are childish, but certainly children play the game - and that's not appropriate. Porn, cigs and drink are controlled to try and protect children, this game courts them.

Access to the game site is subject to age verification process and the home page has a visible ESRB Age Rating stamp of "M for Mature 17+", with indications of "Violence, Blood, Sexual Themes, Nudity, Drug Reference and Strong Language" (further reference here).

The fact you're saying the game is clearly aimed at children is mind-boggling, really, some of my neurons just died after reading your post.

Child-like avatars? Really? Do you think children have developed breasts and thighs?

In the almost two months (between Beta and release) I played this game, aside from the gold-sellers plague, the people I found while playing were all decent and well mannered, unlike people I often find in other supposedly "better" MMOs.

No perverts, no children, just men and women playing a game where the amount of bare and exposed skin laid around effectively nullified the usual jeering for the scantly clad female characters in other games.

they funny is that the girl players i know (in real life) they prefer to make a sexy in game girl... so i dunno who is offended ..

personally this MMO doesn't attracts me at all, and in MMO i prefer guys or back in time i was making females but not nude and usually with heavy armors, but ladies i have met in my MMO-life they were making much more sexy characters than any male ...

As a gamer approaching 40 I  feel that the moral attacks against this game are pathetic.  If you look at most of the games created today they start out balanced, then move towards younger generations. Its a known factor that asian companies target gamers at the age of 12. Many US companies are starting to gain this mindset also.

Now for Scarlet Blade defense its geared toward mature players. after watching MMOrpgs scathing anti sexual reviews i have come to the conclusion that the lack of maturity is overwhelming. It states clearly it is a mature game, get off your religious/political/ignorant soapbox and realize what that means.

I applaud the developers of Scarlet Blade for their challenge of ignorance. I support them for challenging the narrow minded, and I absolutely love the fact they took social norms and gave them the finger.

If you dont like the game go back to your 12 year old target games. If you are looking for something that is geared towards men, has a maturity level above that of a 14 year old and doesnt care what the idiots think then Scarlet blade is for you.

Its a fantasy game folks... grow up.

seeing peoples reaction about nudity...now i know why we can't see a true mature dark fantasy or World of Darkness game(yes, what CCP going to make, isnt go near p&p i bet now)...

There a difference between nude adults and nude children. Put it this way in RL if consenting adults wan to have fun and dress up/be naked etc that's fine, but they would certainly ensure children at not involved. Children play this game.

Than parents to be blame, not the game ( when a kid got a hand on a real gun, not the gun fault to be found)

To me finding the game degrading and such is something I can accept.

However, when people start acting like it's disgraceful or shameful, that's another story.Have you looked at today's ad's with sexy women/men?People act like because a word is printed/typed it has more impact/meaning.Take a good look at those tv ad's and tell me Scarlet Blade is actually worse.I see some pretty revealing ad's for Client List on Lifetime. You honestly think SB is worse,I lol!

Some day I'm going to put a sword through your eye and out the back of your skull!

Parents are to blame, also society. Bottom line, children play this game and if an adult is attracted to this game because of the sexual content then they are also to blame for supporting crap games and also quite frankly dabbling in a sexy game where children play is perverse.

Exactly. Rape is not ok because there are a lot of murders. Children play this game, and the game is marketed with blatantly sexual overtones. Just like in RL, ignorance is no excuse.

So TV is a slimepit and games have to be a slimepit too? I don't think so.

If it's ok on tv,why is game's held to a higher standard. You may not like it,but if there is more adult things on non premium cable tv,why hold a higher standard for a game?I just dont get it.Why the non equal treatment?

Again with this "children play the game" nonsense.

The game is marketed to a mature audience, it's made for a mature audience and the publisher does what it can to ensure it's played by mature people, save having the CIA monitoring the webcams of those entering the site.

Most of all it's not a "sex game", learn your game genres.

The fact you insist in throwing the "children are playing the game"/"sexy game"/"people playing this game are perverse" tantrum shows that you basically don't know jack sh*t about the game and you're judging it based only on your overly moral prejudice. [mod edit]

I disagree - I think it is marketed to an immature audience who happen to be of age. The publisher may do what it can to ensure it is played by 18+, but I highly doubt they ensure those people are mature.
