SOE Live worth it for someone who has never played a SOE game?

AceshighhhhAceshighhhh Member Posts: 185

So I am ashamed to admit that I've never played a game developed by SOE....

My first MMO experience was FFXI and I've played a lot of MMO's since including Guild Wars, WoW, Darkfall, Aion, EVE, GW2 and others - and yet I haven't experienced a single EverQuest or SOE game.  I've always dreamt about playing a persistent sandbox MMO which is why I'm so excited for EverQuest Next, and I believe that if anyone has the talent and experience to successfully develop a true sandbox mmo, it's the developers of the legendary EverQuest.

Having said that, would SOE Live be worth going to JUST for the EverQuest Next reveal?

No. All of the information you will get from it will be on the web within hours at most.

Right - but considering the clues we've received up until now, it's likely they'll probably have demo's up to play and possibly give out beta keys to the attendees, which is what makes it so enticing.

Honestly, I think it's a recipe for disappointment.  As you've said, you've never played any SOE games so there's probably not much in the way of context to interest you for the rest of the SOELive events.  Plus, with nobody really knowing the extent of August's reveal or even how SOE's claims about their new game will pan out, there's ample opportunity to be underwhelmed.  All that aside, if neither time nor money are a concern, there are worse places to spend a couple days this summer than Vegas.

you could check out PS2 to see what the engine is like and if your PC can handle it.  Also the cash shop in EQN may function in a similar way.

you could also check out eq or eq2 to see the world, get a feel for the place.

Yeah, if it ends up being a disappointment I plan on just adventuring in ol' Vegas, so it wouldn't be a complete loss

Whats the price for tickets+trip? Even if they are giving beta access its rarely going to be worth the price especially since it will hit open beta before release anyway.

That's really cheap. If I lived in the US I would totally go.

They always get the coolest items too.
