Have you ever played a video game that you never thought could exist? You liked video games but after you played this game you reevaluated all other video games on this one game. Maybe everything else you played sucked after you played this and it ruind all other video games for you. The type of game it is, RPG, shooter, platformer, MMO, etc, doesn't matter. Maybe you liked it for its gameplay or story or community. Maybe you stayed up all night playing it. If there are any games that enlightened you post their titles.
For me it was:
The Longest Journey
Metal Gear Solid 1 + 2
Xenosaga 1 + 3
FFXI
Deus Ex (none of the sequals)
Half Life
Resident Evil
SWKOTOR
FFVII
Lunar Silver Star Story Complete
Xenogears
Everquest

My first experience with this was Civ on my friend's Apple II. I visited him one weekend and stayed up all night playing this game!
Since then, a few games have hit me this way.
Master of Magic
Doom I + II
Quake
Morrowind
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic I + II
Baldur's Gate
Dungeon Siege
EverQuest
Heroes of Might and Magic I + II + III (especially 3)
Not many games now keep my attention like this anymore. Usually, if I can play for 2-3 hours in one session, I am doing well. The above games can still hold my attention for longer periods of time in one session.

Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse.- FARGIN_WAR
