How can it possibly be a gank fest when the PvP is not FFA. There are your typical arena/BG type PvP fights and there are Shadow Wars, which take place in the open world but you have to sign up for. If you don't want to be involved in PvP you won't be. Nobody can gank you unless you sign up for the PvP, in which case it's not a gank.

Sadly this game seems like another safe questing lack of excitment game, I join the beta in a hour or two but if it's all just PvE questing then I will be out.
It's amazing that all these years since the fun of Vanilla wow with all the ganking, huge man made spontanious fights in Ironforge, Tarren Mill etc that no other developer has realised that this is why WOW had millions of players, it was totally exciting. Sure it was frustrating being ganked, corpsecamped or being unable to quest when the opposing faction took over a town. For me this is what made WOW great, it was dangerous and exciting, it may be shit now but back in vanilla it was incredible.
Defiance looks good but if the game is just about killing x number of mobs, collecting x number or rats tails [or whatever] without the added danger of the enemy factions attacking you then it will join the long list of MMO failures.

I'm on the opposite side of this. So tired of all the games that focus on PvP, looking forward to a PvE-centric shooting game.

Good to hear then ty for the info.
You actually started a poll concerning pvp in the game, but did not even take time to read about the game?

My thoughts exactly... It was a very "matter of fact" type of post with absolutely no knowledge of the game. This is the reason people are buying games lately and then trying to get them charged back.
Do the research folks. It's really easier then ever to find out EVERYTHING about a game (minus the feel of actually playing it lol) online. To the OP, I'm glad you were able to get this info about the game. Seems like it will be really fun!
Are people really this afraid of pixle death? I mean these games offer absolutely no negative effect for getting ganked.
Well the no negative effects are part of the problem, when there is no penalty for dying, its VERY easy to grief people.
I just remember the early days of AoC, people camping all the res points, not fun times >_<
Sorry, the only form of griefing i believe in is spawn camping, which is hard to do these days. Everything else is a case of the victem being too slow to adapt to the enviroment.
If someone keeps killing you over and over and over...its mostly because you keep going back to the same place and refusing to either bring friends or do something else.
I can picture a teary eyed OP going back to the same mob spawn over and over knowing that guy will be there and that hes cant really do anything about it. Someone else might get some friends and try to trap the guy and gank him, or go to another spawn, hell even bounce to another instance where applicable. Theres really no excuse for getting griefed these days, even in hardcore ffa full loot games...develoeprs have stopped the ability of people to spawn camp...and the rest is a failure on the victims part since there are ways to avoid it.

LOL your welcome. Anyways what fun would it be just to read about it on your own when you can invite fellow gamers and have a fun conversation about it here.

I never get ganked Ive played on pvp servers myself and love the open world pvp challenge. I lvl my lowbie up when i get one shotted bye some ganker I make sure my lvl 90 main OP toon is in the same zone. I us my main toon to not only kill my gankers but then I have fun camping them in return. See someone thinks they got me or ganked me na not at for it is not over until I say it is over. lmao

lolwut? Tired of PvP focused games, which are?
The market is flooded with PvE carebear games and little contained PvP zones for the outcast.
Wouldn't know what to play if Blood and Glory servers wouldn't exist in Age of Conan where I have true hardcore open world PvP plus corpse loot.
These days I am fine with games that don't allow all out PvP for the simple reason that gamers are ass hats. I don't remember the last game with open world PvP that was actually good, fair and well motivated either by story, politics or simply game mechanics. It's a pointless gankfest everywhere these days. Recent example: I went back to TERA recently, the server merges while I was away put all my characters on a PvP servers. And basically even though there is supposedly the whole Guild vs Guild war mechanic, no one is actually doing any organized PvP guild battles. It's all ganking, all the time. High level guild members, attacking lowbies from the enemy guild outside Lumbertown.
TERA is a good example of pointless PvP. All the races are on the same side, there is no Horde v Alliance sort of situation, so no motivation by way of lore. Ganking or open world PvP is basically useless when it comes to progression, it's basically there but no mechanic or award system is in place.
I don't know that gankfest made me really sad. I got ganked by a lvl60 on my lvl15, the dude gets nothing for it. I log on to my lvl60, kill him...wasting my time.
The situation was the same with Age of Conan, a game that I had high hopes for. Again, PvP servers were pretty much all about camping the first zone outside of Tortage in high level groups and ganking new players.

All the shooters seem to be much more PvP-focused - PS2, Dust, Global Agenda even Fallen Earth which was more of a MMORPG still only had PvP as the endgame. TR and SWG were good for PvE but are both gone now.
Many of the decent MMOs are trending the same way, I really liked AoC, but i always felt like i was misisng half the game because i didn't enjoy the PvP. Even games like Rift and TOR which are supposed to be more PvE games are structured around conflict between two sides where you can't even group with half the population.
The world's only decent sandbox is EVE and unless you PvP, it's a complete borefest since PvE is massively under-developed.
Even the Elder Scrolls game that is being based around games that had absolutely no PvP seems to have PvP as its primary thing.
