Feedback sought on Reward Tiers

MarkJacobsMarkJacobs CEO City State EntertainmentMember RarePosts: 649

Folks,

I'm getting close to finishing off the reward tiers for the Kickstarter and I would love to hear what suggestions you guys have for in-game rewards for our backers. I've got all the usual suspects, some new ideas and overall I think our current reward tiers are quite good in terms of giving back to our supporters. Once they are complete I plan on posting them for discussion/dissection ahead of the KS. In the meantime though, if you guys want to throw some other ideas at me, I'm listening. There are a few guidelines though:

1) These should all be in-game items/rewards. I'm trying to minimize the physical rewards because not everybody wants a mousepad, keychain, etc. (plus large quantity order fulfillment is always a PITA the first few times for a new studio) so I don't want to put those type of rewards in the main tiers. There's also the fear that if we do have the order fulfillment headaches that our backers will be POed and I really don't want to start our development cycle that way.

2) None of the rewards can affect game balance in any way. Thus, no additional speed buffs, weapons, etc. but items such as special skins are acceptable.

3) Rewards can be realm/class geared.

4) Rewards can be guild based.

So, here's your opporunity to give me some feedback as to what you would like to see for reward tiers. Feel free to offer different/unique ideas even if they might take some additional work for us. Now, simpler is certainly better but I'm certainly willing to listen (especially over this weekend as I'm working on them).

And please, if the feedback starts rolling in, let's try to keep this thread on the rails without a lot of back and forth on other people's ideas. We had a great thread on what was important for players in terms of stuff you wanted to see in CU and I'd love to see this thread go the same way.

Thanks!

Mark

    I want account-bound, transmogrifiable, realm-specific, kickstarter-exclusive hats.

For example the vikings could get a winged helm, the arthurians a "robin hood" hat, the TDD a stag helm.

They shouldn't have any stats or armor of course.

I assume you are asking specifically for in game items and that such stuff as license keys for the full game, lifetime subs, alpha/beta access, and reserving character and guild names for release are already covered.

One thing I was thinking about was founder only races that would be small graphical variations on existing races. For instance if there was a Viking race that was Kobold that was short, ugly and blue-skinned then founders could also create a Goblin race that was a green-skinned Kobold using the same models, starting stats, etc.

Glowy starter weapons are another possibility. Who doesn't like to beat down realm enemies with a flaming sword? Depending on how you handle appearance tabs and the like, the glowing effect could even be carried over to more advanced weapons that are acquire after further play.

Maybe give guilds started by founders access to a special set of emblems that aren't available to non-founder guilds.

    Black and white dyes!

Cool mounts assuming those will be in game at all.

Special titles over your head that other players including realm enemies can see.

In game items aren't really something I care much about. I never buy collector's editions for instance. But I'm sure if you did some or all of these and things other people suggest it will motivate some people to donate.

before i write what i would like: I know it is unrealistic and even if added it would be proly on tier far behind what i am able/willing to KS any game for, but you asked for it :)

i would love to have possibility to choose 1 area (like combat, crafting, housing etc.) (or more on higher tiers) and be given oportunity to read about mechanics for it and give feedback (with guaranteed answer) BEFORE it is even put into alpha/beta (because at that time it is usually too tied with everything else)

I know that tha feedback would in 99.9% cases be stupid or at least not compatible with devs vision, but still, maybe i would came with some partial idea which would make it into the game :)

Yep, I got the usual suspects for Kickstarter well-covered as you suggest.  The in-game items I'm looking for aren't geared at soliciting additional donations but truly as an additional thank you for our supporters. I don't think a hat, mount, dyes, etc., will swing many people to donating who weren't going to do so anyone but the more typical KS tiers (keys, discounted/lifetime subs, alpha/beta access, etc.) will be better at doing that than the sort of suggestions I'm looking for now. I'm just trying to get away from the whole "But it comes with an Art Book!" thing for our CE and for our other tiers so I'm hoping to hear what a lot of our players want and not just what I or other devs think you should want. :)

A unique exlusive weapon effect would be awesome. It would sick if it was account bound. I am not a fan of one time use cause it's like yay I could use this on my level one sword and look awesome, or save it forever until I have a weapon more longterm.. then its gone :(

I'd love a weapon effect that can be applied to all weapons i use, but if I sell an item or trade it or whatever, the effect leaves. It should be for that account only... something sick looking and re-applyable :)

Since it's KS, maybe a neon green effect that will only ever be available for KS backers. Just a thought :)

I like the idea of an additional character skin for each realm. Some kind of tattoo, eye patch, peg leg, hair/skin color. If there were to be some kind of a hat/armor skin then it would need to be able to be applied to multiple pieces of armor. I wouldn't want to wear a level 1 hat to show that I donated to the KS.

Edit: yeah, what that guy above me said.

Maybe some kind of a visible, but non-funtioning piece of armor similar to medals in WAR, but more visible.

Special banners or labeling to display on structures/houses.

I assume a hooded (/h yay) "realm" cloak is a usual suspect.

I played in one Alpha/Beta where my character name was put in the credits of the game, that would also be pretty neat.

Maybe an in house displayable wall plaque with the Camelot Unchained logo.

A picture of Mark Jacobs to put up in your house.

Thats all I got for now.

KS only guild with all the devs? IDK if the logistics of this one will be out of reach though. At the very least KS only events in game, like raids with the devs, but I'm pretty sure that sort of thing will develop naturally once the official forums start up.

    Extra toon slots.

In game KS only shop. Then you can add a ton of stuff, even if its rolled out over time. New colors and such.

A 5 minute phone call from Mark Jacobs? lol.

how about a rad spell that’s KS only. Something superfluous like grow double size for 5 seconds, or turn into an in game rendering of a cookie troll or something equally dumb/pointless/fun.

I definitely want something other people notice because I'm shallow and need there admiration, lol.

Lore that describes noble factions that came before the breaking of the world, statues in the cities and sprinkled accross the land that depict those that came before, similar to a TES Blade's classical Akavr armor.

This faction could be written about as being primary contributors to the building of the old world and maintaining the peace and fighting against, but ultimately failing to prevent the devastation that the game takes place in.

They could be account bound patterns that can be applied to crafted stuff, giving the appearance that this suit of armor was handed down throughout the generations, having a classical appearance as if you came through a time machine from 500 years in the past.

Wouldn't have to be a full suit of armor. Could be something suttle like the leaves of lorien.

Military NPCs might salute your characters as you pass, and more noble NPCs might acknowledge you with a glance and a nod.

    Hey, Mark!

Here's a few various ideas that immediately came to mind:

    1.  Unique array of trophies for housing

1a.  Unique 'skins/textures' for housing, or layouts

    2.  Unique player titles and 'skins/textures'

    3.  Early access to the game prior to regular pre-order customers

    4.  Unique items crafted by crafters; not a statistical increase, just appearance

    5.  Original signed artwork by either the artist or development team  (Despite almost all concept art is now digital)

    6.  Meet-n-Greet for top supporters

    7.  Unique emblems for guilds that are founded by or have kickstarter supporters within the guild

    8.  Execlusive weapon visual effects

    9.  Mounts (if in the game)

    10.  Emotes

My name is Plastic-Metal and my name is an oxymoron.

    Exclusive noble hair styles.

    Ring of Power.

Noble connections allow them the ability to purchase something sort of like a Nisean horse which were extremely rare and exclusive IRL.

    An ancient bugatti veyron.

When other people inquire to a merchant how to get a nisean horse, they could be replied to with a backstory of how rare the are and that they come from a far away land, and that he doesn't have the connections established in order to aquire one.

Honestly, trophies, armor/weapon skins, reusable dyes, and unique housing stuff would totally cover it for me. It has pretty much been covered above. If you include titles in the game a la Warhammer, a backer one would be nice. That reminds me, I was in love with the unique dwarf pre-order barrel beard. Totally rad.

I would like to say, however, that I really like the idea Ross Tunney had for his kickstarter rewards for data hacker initiation. He had a tiered structure to it, of course, but each tier just gave you more credits, with some tiers having a limit to the amount of backers but giving more credits per dollar/pound. Then he just outlined the rewards and how much credit each one costs. I think this was brilliant, and much more backer friendly than just dictating which tiers got what. So, for example, backing 20 dollars would give you 20 credits and a unique dye would be 5 credits, a unique title would be 5, a unique and awesome armor skin would be 15, etc. It would be easy to set up with the kickstarter poll too. Here's a link to the project:http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2013446534/data-hacker-initiation

Now I'm not sure if there's any reason you wouldn't want to use this system, perhaps you have your own plan or are planning something really devious as a unique reward in a high tier to tempt larger backings (although the above statements don't seem indicative of that) but you could just as easily have a high-credit-value item in a system like this. Anyway, it's just a thought. Can't wait to see the kickstarter already!

How about a set of fun, unique emotes only available to KS supporters. It could  even be the same emotes except with a better animation?

Interesting. I hadn't seen DH until now. I have a system already in place for some of that but the DH project really did take that to the next level.  I'll think about that as I put the final list together. It would be keeping with the whole choices matter FP though eh? My only real concern is given the much larger number of reward tiers I have (30+) is that the system that DH uses will take a bit longer to balance out because of things like guild options, sub models, etc. However, it is worth considering, thanks for the suggestion!

I know that this might be too much, but how about a way for the Kickstarter contributors to particpate in the creative process through a "brainstorming forum"?  A forum in which the contributors and developers can directly interact.  Naturally, there would be no guarantees that their ideas would be implemented.  But I think it would be great if the contributors had a forum in which they could throw out their ideas in which the developers could shoot down or build upon.

Totally like this idea. I could review the list, add up the credits needed for the items/rewards I want and then donate at the appropiate tier. I cant see a down side to it. It also fits well with Mark's "choices" FP.

Well, I guess that's the only thing I care about as a contributor if that's the case. ;)
