pretty surprised

I played this game at release, granted not for long, but I've been bored lately and noticed it was now free so I figured what the hell. Been playing a couple days now and I'm really shocked, the game is pretty good, I'm having a great time. Say what you want, think I'm a dev trying to hype the game or say its garabage, but until you try it I really don't need to hear any of it. My in-game name is locel send me a tell if ya need help or anything. Community is great the graphics look good, and the thing I like most about it is its not easy, its challenging. So here's to second chances.

I also started playing this game recently ( I have been playing lotro for the last 5 years) even know it is free I ended up buying a three month subscription. Here is my take on the game so far.

Adventuring:  You can solo almost all the content on the Island of Dawn, but it is more fun to have a friend several of my lotro friends are playing with me. Once you are off the island you don’t have to have a friend but it helps to have a leveling buddy for the small group stuff and the group stuff this is great. I feel like it is putting the group back in mmo’s. In Lotro you can solo everything in the game except the 3 man and up group instances.

Crafting: In lotro you just have to have the mats then you press make and can walk away while you are leveling your crafting up. In Vanguard you have to be present and pay attention to what you are doing so far it has been a lot of fun now I have only gone to level 20 so maybe it will get boring as I go up but I don’t think so.

Diplomacy: This phase is by far and away my favorite I love talking to npc’s and trying to beat them it is a lot of fun. No game I have ever played has had anything like this in it. Diplomacy can be challenging and rewarding at the same time.

In conclusion I and my friends are having a blast in Vanguard I would recommend it to anyone. The best part about it is you can try it for free, as the f2p restrictions are very light. I tried it and found a new home. One thing I want to add is it sounds like I am bashing Lotro that was not intentional it is a great game for five years it of my life I just needed something new and Vanguard looks like it will be my new home for quite some time!

    Hmm. I never tried LotRO.

    - I dont really like LotR, to be honest. Its too boring. The movies are okay, but nothing I want to watch twice.

    - I dont really like the limits I got in LotRO. No female dwarves is laughable. Only Bards as healers is riddiculous.

As a person who loves playing healer, I much prefer Vanguard. I have four choices for healer classes, and that doesnt even count the subclasses, especially the Shamans play very differently.

Its been years since I played it, but I did all the content that was available for the first 18 months after release, and then the developers stopped doing updates, so the game died.

I am not even sure if I could play my toons with f2p? Need to look into it, but I wonder if anything new was added.

You can, just make sure not to un-equip all your gear you have on. They've done a lot since F2P came out. For example some low level areas are now mid levels (28-32). Most named bosses have updated loots. New Overland Raid boss. eETC> Come check it out!

I don't understand when people say this. I played at launch as well, and the game is virtually unchanged since then. They cleaned up (but never eliminated) some chunk crashing, and some other bugs, and that's it. It's had no development since that time. You can't even raid because it lags the entire server.

It's a great game underneath all the warts, but it bothers me when people talk about it like it's gotten so much better over the years.

The game really is a diamond in its own rough. If you can really sit and give it a chance, chances are you'll start to see it shine.

If you can find groups, friends,or a guild to do the group content it gets pretty fun.

Vg always been an amasing game, microsoft should never had a hand on it, it may have ended up released in a far better state then it did. granted SOE did an amasing job fixing it when Sigil finally let them.

Im glad the game is getting noticed more and more.

Microsoft doesnt have even slightest connection to VG's failure

I agree with you, bruh. Every so often, I read about how phenominal this game has become, but then I go back and it is exactly the same. The only thing that has changed in all these years is that I can run a little further without the game pausing and flinging my character backwards... oh and you'll sometimes actually see another person, now.

Also, the graphics have not held up very well at all; the environments are largely barren and void of any intriguing doodads. I never made it past about level 20, so I obviously can't speak for environments in the later areas, but compared to other games of its time...and before its time... it seems to come up very short in the design department.

I played the beta and at launch too, and I would suggest that you two are flat out lying, but who am I to argue your opinion.

A lot has changed since release imo. From bugs, performance to class balance and or revamping. But mainly after the transition into f2p, vanguard have overgone an overhaul, if you cannot acknowledge that, I find it very hard to even have a civil discussion as you two clearly have not touched the game in a very long time.

Its fine if you do not like the game, many people do not like the game. But there have been many changes and most of them positive, thats just a fact.

VG has come a long way since launch... err crash for that matter.

The game is solid, the content is solid, the subsystems (craft, diplo, ...) are solid.

    Is it dated, yup.

Are there some server issues, yup but the team has gone a long way in fixing them.

All being said I would suggest to anyone to just play the game and see first hand if it is something that they would like.
