Well it goes much deeper than that. What is really hurting the Console scene isn't Traditional PC Gaming as the model isn't really all that much different than the Console market. For example in the traditional AAA PC game market you pay 50-60 bucks for a game and hope that you like it. This differs very little from the way Console games are sold today. What is really taking a bite not only out of the console market but also the traditional PC market is the Flood of cheap Mobile gaming as well as the Freemium model adopted by both the Mobile and Casual gaming markets. This allows players to play a game and spend money on it only after they have decided they like it. This is not only hurting Console game sales but also traditional PC game sales as well. One thing that the PC gaming industry has over Consoles however is services like Steam that will sell reletively new games at huge discounts quite often. This gives the PC gaming market a huge boost when the console market simply has no service available that remotely compares.

Well with the new Xbox and Playstation only letting you use the disc on 1 console and force you to be online 24/7 to play it's looking like the console will kill itself.
