Ok first of all you DO NOT buy stuff from PC World for any reason, unless it is to throw away money
Check out scan, dabs, overclockers and ebuyer (if you live near Bolton you can drive to scan)
Secondly to play games and replace a 6870 you be be look at the very least a 7770 for 100
However, before going out and buying a new card - how did yours die? Also how old is the card as most card warrenties are at least a year and some longer. Cos your biggest problem at the moment is i doubt 100 pounds will buy a card even equal to the 6870, so if you can get it replaced would be the best option for you.
well it died whilst i was on guild wars 2, just all of a sudden i heard the fans go full power and the screens disconected, turned my computer off and back on and the issue remained, and the main problem is that i am currently penniless, was able to convince someone to lend me £100 for a graphics card, and the only reason i put up pc world was because i can get 10% discount lol
A GeForce GTX 550 Ti is an older card that is roughly competitive with a Radeon HD 7750 or GeForce GTX 650. The problem is that it's too expensive for the performance it offers, as the other cards are substantially cheaper, in addition to using much less power:
The Radeon HD 6870 is long discontinued and mostly off the market now. If you're getting a new card today, you want a Radeon HD 7000 series or GeForce 600 series card.
A GeForce GTX 650 Ti typically performs about halfway between a Radeon HD 7770 and 7850. Since the price is much closer to the 7850, the 7850 is a better deal.
ok i have been given a little more money lol i was just thinking along with a graphics card should i upgrade the rest of my computer, i currently have the
so along with the HD 7850 what motherboard and Processor can i get for £150-170 ? i do not mind if it will be a motherboard i will ahve to upgrade in a while, i have a retail Windows 7 too not the OEM so i can install that.
Why are you looking to replace your processor by something that isn't all that much faster than the old one? Is there some reason why the old processor isn't good enough anymore?

A 10% discount off of a 50% higher nominal price is not a good deal.
The GeForce GT 640 is a completely stupid card. It mostly loses to a much cheaper Radeon HD 6670:

Or if you're willing to use up the whole budget, you could spring for a markedly better Radeon HD 7770:

Was your old card still under warranty?
The next step up is a GeForce GTX 650 Ti:

That will roughly match the performance of the Radeon HD 6870 that you're replacing. After that, the next step is a Radeon HD 7850:

What processor and motherboard do you have now that you're looking to replace?
The next generation replacement for that processor is probably launching next week, so you might want to wait a bit.
