CC stolen - WoW account compromised

Mike-McQueenMike-McQueen Member UncommonPosts: 267

My CC got declined this morning for a ccup of coffee at dunkin' and I felt like the worlds biggest asshole. I got a message from my bank saying my account had been compromised. After talking to a guy it turns out it was overseas. Twelve hours later blizzard contacts me about my account info being changed and that I have to reset my questions etc. Mind you I haven't touched my blizzard account since the D3 fiasco back in may. And this is with the mobile authenticator in place.

I'm a unique and beautiful snowflake.

Turns out they removed my authenticator somehow.

Not sure about the whole authenticator thing but... sounds like someone at dunkin had a swiper. Was your card visible while they took it? never let anyone physically take your card out of view. Thieves anymore don't write down the information they swipe it with an electronic reader.

You're PC is probably compromised. Downloaded some pirated software lately? Went online looking for "hacks" for games?

Same questions for your mobile, lots of theives now target mobiles as well.

I doubt its anyone you've met in real life like at dunkin. Your average theif wants your money, not your lame little video game account.

i still don't think mobile authenticators are a good idea for this reason. my friend got hacked when she had an authenticator. i'm guessing they removed it also, because hers was on her mobile device. then i heard three of her real id buddies got hacked afterwards. >.<

    Crud, that really blows.

With that you are trying to be as careful as possible and still they get too you. :(

My recommendation is that you either carefully scan your entire PC with an online scanner to get rid of viruses and malware (http://housecall.trendmicro.com/) or format and reinstall windows, there is a big chanse your computer have been compromized.

Good luck and I hope you get your money back.

I feel like battle.net accounts get hacked all the time. I know people, including myself, who have had multiple accounts hacked in the past, even when our computers were 100% clean.  In fact most of them even happen when we have stopped using our accounts for months.
