Regardless whether or not its a headstart they had a good idea of how many people were likely to log in - no?
You sell x number of games with a headstart you will get x number of players logging on during the headstart.....its not difficult. I fully expected glitches at game launch - what really dissapoints me is the lack of communication. I hoped Arenanet would be different /sadface.
They already said they know about the problem and are trying to fix it. What more do you want?
I'd like regular updates that aren't a pointless cut and paste job...its not much to ask. Keeping your customers informed is key in these situations.
Well if u live in eu and try to log in now, it does not work. In my opionion, yes that is a failure on nc soft not being able to deliver what they accept money for.
Listening to people bashing TSW in order to calm their frustration for the GW2 servers being down is just..wrong.
First of all, you have no idea what the numbers of subscribers was on launch day in either games. Ofc GW2 had more, but picture this - TSW had less than 10 servers for the whole word. That means those friggin servers would be overcrowded (because I'm willing to bet the game sold at least 2-300k copies at launch). Plus they introduced a fancy new technology for server issues. If you get disconnected, you'd get moved to another server and so forth (plus the ability to play with people from any server etc.)
But let's not take that into consideration, and accept the idiotic remark of someone who said ''5 people played TSW at launch''.
You're a big company launching the year's most wanted MMO. You run numerous stress tests. I'm asking - how many people participated in those tests? And what were the results? A login failure is just too unprofessional. This people has nothing to do with the servers being crowded. Because people can't really get on those servers. Which can only mean that a) their Beta period was a joke or b) Their staff is really unprofessional.
The problem was noticed early on today. They keep sending a tweet every 2 hours saying they are working hard to fix it.
Not to mention the other issues like the chat bugs. Man, we couldn't even send whispers. What did they do in Beta, really. Not to mention the Guild invite bugs and so on.
So yeah, I paid some cash ahead of launch, I was promised a 25th early acces, I want them to deliver it. So far I've played for maybe 2 hours, early on. A professional company who cares about its customers would at least issue an official apology and admit their failure + maybe offer something in return. So far no apologizes were given, only ''thank you for your patience''.
Edit: they just claimed to have reestablished server connectivity.

I think it had a lot to do with the really poor testing prior to release. This game could have benefited from an open beta. All of the stress tests were done at odd hours for short periods of time. The fact that they were still stress testing two days before launch says something. I hope it all gets ironed out. I do like the game a lot and I can't wait to play it some more. For some reason, it is updating by redownloading the entire client. Sigh...........
Man, these posts are so strange to me. I had literally zero problems logging in last night. I was able to get in as soon as the game came up and honestly I had no lag and very good fps. It was an amazing launch in my opinion and the game is amazing as well. I played all night long. It's my new favorite game.
Maybe it was smoother for me because I chose a lower population server. I played on an american server so I can't comment on if EU was as smooth or not.
fantastic launch last night, has no issues accept occasional lag went to bed this morning, woke up at 11 and have had no issues since. so they may need to add login servers big woop.
I simply cannot log in - my request doesnt even reach authentication. I heard from my friend who was able to log in really early this morning that the game is laggy as hell.
Not going to score the game on this, but so far ... extremely bad of course. Going back to The Secret World (which had a 10/10 launch) for a while, but itching to try GW2 ( though I don't think I will like the cartoony "little mouse characters" things, but we'll see). I loved gw1 to bits, but have a bad feeling about gw2 - especially now after tsw launch.
Well TSW had a close to perfect pre-release, but how can an MMO without little cartoony mouse characters or panda bears be a success? Leaving out those important design cornerstones misses the entire MMO genre target audience IMHO.
MMOs need moar pointed ears FTW ! Cuteness and shiny colors or bust!
Guess I got luky, in as soon as the servers were up, had about 2 laggy minutes. Since then smooth as butter, no login issues, no bugged quests, and got all my character names.... Happy
I couldnt log in for a long time yesterday, and when I did the Guild was broken and kept reporting I was not in a guild, and it was very laggy.
Today however, logged in first time, no lag, guild is fixed, and everyone seems to be having fun, me included. Hopefully it will stay that way!

ITT an awful lot of fuss was made out of a few hours trouble. It seems like nowadays if something doesn't work immediately and perfectly the internet mutates into a giant collective made out of fury. Have we not been through enough headstarts/launches at this stage to realize that there is *always something* that throws a spanner in the works?
I'm no GW2 fangirl, but I honestly think once yesterday's drama fades people will wonder why they ever raged so much. Launch issues, there are always some.
At this stage we should all know that the logical reaction is to do something else for a bit and try again later and/or do a /popcorm and watch the rage unleashed in forums. I know that's what I do.
I'm always able to connect fine. Never get disconnected or experience severe lag.
I think you people need to unplug, sleep, go out and move around every once in awhile. Sitting down for 10+ hours straight is not healthy. Your heart will thank you.
Only on MMORPG.com could a thread like this be one of the busiest threads right now.
The criteria for "FAIL!" around here is the delivery of anything less than sheer perfection. This place has gotten binary to the point of boring.
There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein "Graphics are often supplied by Engines that (some) MMORPG's are built in" - Spuffyre
Logged in around 8AM yesterday, played 10 hours without a hitch. No disconnects. No lag. No server crashes.
Still only a level 11 and loving it. If I spent that much time in WoW, I'd be level 70 by now. Cheers to GW2 to make a game in which leveling isn't at the speed of light. I have yet to even leave Wayfarer yet. In WoW terms, that means I haven't left the level 10 zone yet. Still lots to do. The very best part is no matter what, my level is never above the content that I am doing. That alone outclasses every other MMO out there... where typically you outlevel the content and just faceroll your way through it.
I had no trouble downloading patches loging into my game account and creating a character in GW2 but right after i create the character and the "My Story" cinematic plays out the loading screen for the first intro mission/quest just keeps loading indefinetly... i mean i have left it there for over an hour before and it either kicks me out or gw2 completely closes on me with no error message nothing, just infinite loading screens... its so frustrating.
I really hope its not my computer i already disabled all windows firewalls and still nothing..
Intel i3 CPU
6GB RAM
AMD Radeon HD 6570
Anyone else having this problem? i have looked everywere and i can for something similar but cant find anything. and i also switched to a european LOW populated server in case it was some sort of lag and still no success. had no problems playing during BWE.
Arenanet has chosen to close down their own forums. I think that puts things in perspective. If Arenanet is already doing damage control, then its been a rough launch so far.

Reminds me of this
Korrigan I know that post reply of yours was some serious exaggeration. Did I just fall victim to your sarcasm?
Seems login server is down again. At least for me it's error 42 again.
Earlier I had some lag on overflow but I relogged and the lag was gone. It probably depends on which overflow you get assigned to.
MMORPG genre is dead. Long live MMOCS (Massively Multiplayer Online Cash Shop).

I concur. And in the vast scheme of things, this forum means absolutely jack and shit to the average gamer.
