Dark Souls disapointment.

Loved it and still love it on the ps3. I thought yes! cool its out for the pc, higher gfx, keyboard and mouse controls.

This is not really a rant just a warning to thoes who may not realise like myself.

Dark souls through purchased through steam, still requires you to use windows live to play . I found nothing of this mentioned before hand.

Also the control config has no mouse + keyboard option. So il be popping down to the shop to buy a xboc pc compatable contoller tomorrow :(

Some you just hope you can buy and play a game hassle free and have fun. But once again I have been proven wrong.

Owe well, here's hoping to many fun deaths shortly.

I hate to see how you feel when you discover that you can't play the game above 1024x720 resolution without a user-created fix.

I hate to be that guy but the infromation about a basic port, GFWL, the resolution and the need for a gamepad has been available for quite some time.

I honestly don't know how anyone interested in Dark Souls could miss the dozens of articles on the game and the basic port.

Sorry you have to use a gamepad and download a resolution fix to play the game but its a good experience.  Honestly Dark Souls being a japanese game we are lucky to even have it.  They know nothing of PC game development., in that country the PC platform is something that is used for a couple MMOs at the most (in the game community).

    Playing: Nothing

    Looking forward to: Nothing

steam clearly says on the Dark SOuls page it uses third party program: GFWL.

i play DS on xbox and love it. im disappointed with PC version because Namco's lazyness to not make the port better and make the excuse that they wont improve it because they lack the experience with PC games.... So if this is true then why does the PC port have extra content and a supossedly better matchmaking feature for pvp and coop? They cant improve what has been created but they can create and add new stuff?..... ill keep my xbox copy until steam sells DS for like $5 bucks, maybe on black friday

I wasn't too fond of the whole gamepad idea, which is why I decided to skip out on the pc version.

as for the PC version i think it's a very bad game sadly.
  • Might get it for my 360 at one point.

I have Dark Souls on the PS3, and I think it's a very superb game.  I was excited about the potential of what the PC could do to really bring some "oomph" to the game visually.  Wondered what the devs could do with the current power of PCs, and not necessarily top-end either.

I signed that petition for a PC release.  I signed it expecting the PC version to get the love of a proper port and enhancements to take advantage of the platform's capabilities.

Then I saw the tidbits of information before release of the "Prepare to die edition" and my hopes for the game drastically sank.  One of the worst PC ports imaginable, I thought when this version came out, and sadly it's true.  Not forking over for a half-hearted attempt on a PC version.

This debacle will ensure no further PC versions of the Demons' Souls franchise will make it to the PC ever again.  The devs have shown a poor ability in working on developing on the platform, and with the likely poor sales of the PC version, it gives them even more justification to never try such a venture again.  Even if it was due to their own incapabilities.

I supported a PC version of Dark Souls wholeheartedly.  But that doesn't mean I fork over money for a trash product.

"I have only two out of my company and 20 out of some other company. We need support, but it is almost suicide to try to get it here as we are swept by machine gun fire and a constant barrage is on us. I have no one on my left and only a few on my right. I will hold." Well, it's sort of a double edge sword.

The game feels unplayable on the PC "as a pc port".

Unless someone can explain what they did to make the camera smooth using a mouse!

However, I can play it (grudgingly so) with a controller. Which I happen to have as I have a friend over every monday to play left 4 dead 2, both on my one computer. She uses the controller. As much as she can as she's not really a gamer.

For me, I can use a controller but it feels very awkward for me. With Dark Souls I can get more practice and I assume can be fair at it. not sure how far that will take me but I'm really loving the game.

Otherwise I'd have to buy a console and still use a controller.

So on one hand I'm a bit angry at the port and on the other it allows me to play the game.

    edit!

OR, I can turn my mouse dpi to 100 and have the camera/mouse actually be manageable!!!!

I was just able to have an actual controlled battle by turning down my mouse dpi. If I can only figure out how to make it a bit more "smooth" then it will be really good. a few rebinds and I'll be in business.

I guess I don't play enough PC games, because as a big Dark Souls fan, I have no idea how it could have possibly worked as a 'keyboard and mouse' game, and even less of an idea of why anybody would even want to play it that way if they could.

I just assumed everybody so desiring of a PC release was prepared to play it with a controller.

Then it's possible you don't play enough pc games.

Now that I've sorted out (to an acceptable if not perfect degree) the mouse issue I won't ever go back to the controller. The "control" I find with a mouse seems so much better. I noticed a significant jump in gaming success after I was able to go back to the mouse.

After that, everything that can be done on a controller can be done on a keyboard without really moving your hands.

In any case I really don't understand what you thought wouldn't work with a keyboard and mouse?

Well, I play MMORPGs quite regularly, and I'm always using a keyboard and mouse- I don't own a controller for my PC.  And, playing say, Age of Conan or The Secret World or Eve Online or The Witcher or really anything I've played on the PC, my impression is that keyboard and mouse controls are for easymode games where you can afford to be sloppy and imprecise- first person shooters being the exception of course, because of how much easier pointing at things will be on a  mouse than with a analog stick.

But fighting knife-throwing monks while balancing on rafters above a fatal fall just sounds like hell using WASD.

Dark Souls was desgined to be played with a controller.

Just like how nobody plays sports or racing games with a keyboard? this is the same.

If you have a PS3 or an 360, do yourself a favor and buy the console version, the PC port is absolutely terrible.

Dark Souls is probably my favorite game of all time... and i've been playing for 14+ years, i expected Skyrim to be better than DS... but after playing DS, i can say without a doubt that it's a much better game, IMO of course.

Isnt this sort of stuff the norm with console ports?

Well... there are better and worse console ports.

For example, Deus Ex: Human Revolution even had a new UI for PC.

Then you have bad bad ports like LA Noire or Skyrim.

However, at least Bethesda allowed mods to fix everything, and they also released an HQ texture mod for free.

not sure what to say as I find the keyboard and mouse to be more precise.

I find controlling the camera in conjunction with how I'm moving and either right/left button or right/left trigger and one of four buttons to be cumbersome. As I mentioned, I can now play Dark Souls and actually feel like i have control.
