looking for a game like Jumpgate or the old Elite

I really miss the old "space trading" type of game, where a major part of your activity is to "buy stuff at one planet and sell it at another."  I was really hoping for the "new version of Jumpgate" but that appears to be dead forever :(

Can anyone point me to some similar type of game?  I've tried Eve but I got lost long before learning enough about it to know if it fits the bill or not, and since it isn't free I was unable to keep trying harder.

    Vendetta may be JUST what I was looking for - thanks!  I've grabbed it and played through the first couple of training missions on my lunch break - can't wait to get home!

    It seems very much like Jumpgate / Elite, but with a couple of changes that I've seen already that I'm going to REALLY LOVE!

    You can turn "physics mode" on and off to make moving around simpler or more realistic.

    You don't have to die 12 times while docking :)

    Awesome!

    Thanks to the person who mentioned Oolite too.  I should have said that I'd really like it to be "online" instead of single player.  But still, given what I asked for, that is great information!

    if you have a copy of freelancer, then this is something you might wanna check out.

     

    even if you don't have a copy, i believe the website tells you how to get one.
