This community isn't horrible, but it is obnoxious. Of the pre-launch communities that I've followed (15 years worth) this has been the worst so far in terms of fanboyism and blatant disregard and outright hostility for dissenting opinion, no matter how logically and soundly that opinion was presented... and I participated in the TOR community prior to release.
On the flip side, it's also been the target of the most trolling that I've seen, so maybe the one begets the other or vice versa.

I'm happy to go through and look them up for you, but please tell me you're not insinuating that there have ZERO legitimate threads with dissenting opinions on various features of the game. Cash shop threads, WvW threads, Heart Quest threads... Are you implying that no one who disliked those certain features had a logical or sound opinion?
no I'm just saying they are VERY far and few between that is all
I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. If I buy a candy bar at a store, oftentimes, I will drop it... so that it achieves its maximum flavor potential. --Mitch Hedberg

Case in point..
It's actually not. Tons of people keep trying to spread misinformation and outright lies about the game, and this pisses people off.
The few people that have come around and stated their opinion in a way that doesn't try to smear the game in a fallacious way tend to be respected by the majority of the fanboys.

What about those last 100 P2W cash shop threads. Those always seem logical & sound.
I started playing guild wars at release, and it goes down for me personally as one of my favorite games of all time, and I've kept track of guild wars 2 ever since it was first annouced in PC Gamer. Ive Played in the Beta weekends and I have immensley enjoyed myself, but theres one thing that just driving me insane, and thats the community thats been building up around the game since the hype has been building up. For the last month I've been playing Tera and all day in LFG chat theres people just saying the GW2 will be the end all be all of MMO's and in general just stating lots of 'facts' about GW2 that arent true. I've tried to not let it phase me but it has reached the tipping point when im in Counter Strike GO where there is absolutely no correlation between it and GW2 and people are still saying things like "GW2 is such a better game than this". Ironically all these people are probably going to be the ones bitching on the GW2 forums a week after release.
To make it short, I'm sorta scared that a portion of the community will just make this game less enjoyable with the additude and rediculously high epectiations that they have.
No, I dont. Never cared and never will about random people online.
I played on 2 different servers during the BWEs, and I played in all of them except for the press weekend.
I found the community to be polite, friendly and helpful.
Strangers would revive me, all the time.
Strangers would gather at events and work together, and talk about strategy. I worked with a group of about 20 people to kill that damn fire elemental in the Asura starting lands.
Strangers would group up and quest together.
Now it wasn't all rainbows and ponies, sometimes things could get silent, and I can see how people who aren't terribly social might end up playing GW2 like a single-player game. I find that the more you put into it socially yourself, the more you got out. And I'm sure when people group up in guilds that it will improve the social scene.
I saw a lot of people saying how much they enjoyed GW2, but not in comparsion to other games (e.g. there was no "LOL GW2 is osem WoW suxx lawl lawl").
Maybe this will change, idk.
"Loading screens" are not "instances". Your personal efforts to troll any game will not, in fact, impact the success or failure of said game.
...On a more serious note, don't let one or two annoying people scare you off from a good thing. And definitely don't stereotype an entire community based on them .

Yeah, I feel the same way about pizza. If I hear one more person say how great pizza is then I will stop and have nothing but whole grains and vegetables the rest of my life. Those damn pizza fanbois totally ruined it for me.

Not going to lie, sometimes I got annoyed with people during heart quests. There were so many people that wouldn't go exploring and do just that that they would camp on the spawn points and spam aoe. So you go up to a mob to try to tag it to get credit, only to be disapointed as it dies in 2 seconds. Then you go to a DE all by yourself, thinking "ya... all these mobs all to myself, now I can get done in no time..." only to get your ass kicked because there's either waves or tougher mobs in the pack that take a shit ton of work to kill. At that point I was like "where'd all the people go... I want you back.. I feel so alone... " Think I downed stated 4 times during a wave DE because it would send about 5 per wave and I couldn't just aoe and move on like in most games.

They'll all be too busy playing GW2 in a couple of weeks and should leave the rest of us alone in our other games.
All 3 of us anyways.
Surely more than 3! Why, I've seen more than three, "GW2 sucks and ima cancel my pre-order." threads.

You would be suprised how little people made it far in sylvari. It took till level 8 till I literally thought the server went down and I was the only one left. Never saw a soul. The only people I ever saw were doing the raid boss over and over again. Then when I'm like, alright I did this 3 times, I think I'm good, they can't do this forever can they... can they? I didn't come across a single other player in the next zone. Not one. I then said, well this is clearly far enough, and rerolled something else.

There will definitely be a learning curve. People are so used to going from quest hub to hub that the idea than an event could spontaneously occur in an unmarked area of the map is preposterous. Or that you would HEAR NPCs talking about something and then they would go and do it is just really novel. But then again I'm sure you know all this.
One thing that I did see in the last couple of stress tests, more and more NPCs were running up to me and asking for my help in different areas. Now I'm sure they were doing this primarily because it was me, but with more environmental cues, people may be less inclined to just run from heart to heart.

i havent had general chat on for more than 10 minutes since around 2006 .. so while I share your concern to some extent .. it wouldn't be a deciding factor. If it were, I wouldn't play mmos at all.
LFD tools are great for cramming people into content, but quality > quantity. I am, usually on the sandbox .. more "hardcore" side of things, but I also do just want to have fun. So lighten up already

Don't act cool. Be honest with yourself, when they came up to you, you were like, "What? you want me. *little girl giggle*"
Most probably were busy doing heart quests when a little kid comes up to them "hey, hey mister, hey... I know about..."
"WTF do you want? I don't have time for you. I'm busy doing hearts... my mommy told me not to talk to stranger NPCs..."

This. Blocking out people who may annoy you during the first month of a new game is pretty darn easy. A simple command and voila!
4 days before the game release and still "stress test"
little or no advertising game at all.
no official forum but "facebook" "twitter" for official annoucement.
release date is in an unbusiness day despite of 2 more months for thank giving or christmas.
i had the feeling GW2 being pushed to release while it still not yet complete. Diablo 3 has to cut down PVP because the fans so hype and demand it be release fast. kids tend to stroke down all the coffee in one stroke and say it's suck.:D

Um... You have no proof of this. It's been 5 years, more than enough time to have the game ready, and ready it is.
