Are all demos desperation moves? Or just demos from Blizzard?

When GW2 offers a free trial, are they going to be desparate too?

It will be a smart and innovative move when ANet does it.

Who cares if they stayed? Diablo 3 is not an MMORPG. Does anyone care if Darksiders or DragonAge players stay?

Blizzard only sacrifices some money from the auction house. But they could have guessed that, because, and I say this again, Diablo 3 is not an MMORPG.

One could also argue that they have sacrificed long term gains from the rmah and the sale of expansions for the short term gain of more sold copies and having a "succesful release" before a possible company sale and release dates of competitors, couldnt he?

    Flame on!

Diablo 3 is an action Rpg.

    Retention is near meaningless.

We all know 10 million plus will flock back to the game the second Blizzard releases an expansion.

    Playing: Nothing

    Looking forward to: Nothing

You could argue it. Unless you have an infallable vision of the future your arguments are of about as much use as 5 1/4 floppy disk to a sea cucumber.

I'm happy enough with the changes in 1.04

NO ENRAGE TIMERS and INTERESTING AFFIXES is all I wanted. We seem to be getting a few things.

No, it doesn't make the game good, it makes the game worth going back to. I dropped it for a month because I was just sick of the inferno BS. Now it's a fun challenge and not a game of "LOL DIE TO THESE OP ELITE AFFIX COMBINATIONS."

I am now given about a 1-2 seconds to react to things instead of dropping like a lead balloon.

Play for fun. Play to win. Play for perfection. Play with friends. Play in another world. Why do you play?

I'm opposed to nonsensical predictions. There can be enlightening and useful discussions on internet forums. That isn't how you have them.

Well, one is hard pressed if your definition of nonsensical seems to be "i dont agree with that". :)

I illustrated how the (premature) relese of D3 could hurt blizz in the long run, you could have argued against it, but you chose not to, you dismissed it on the basis that i cannot see into the future, i leave it to you to decide to what extent that was enlightening or useful.

    Flame on!

They didn't get rid of enrage timers.   Just took them off of Elite packs.   If interesting affixes is referring to the new ones on weapons, then I have a feeling you will be largely disappointed.   On the other hand, if you are referring to the change to elite affixes, then it was an uncalled for nerf.

It is not, as Shorun points out, a MMORPG.

It is a game, it is a franchise, customer satisfaction is important, you talk about perfect vacuum, yet you base your whole argument around a specific synthetic example of someone just getting "bored" of the game and then stopping playing till a expansion comes out, the only situation where playing the game has completely no impact on sales of future expansions.

Isnt similar tunnel-vision the reason we even have this discussion? Arent there enough "you will have fun the right way" memes? :)

There is no tunnel vision. There is no relevant information. If everyone who ever bought D2 and played longer than a month  bought D3 it wouldn't account for a fifth of the total sales of D3. You may as well discuss who will win the 2016 lotto.

    5th? I think you could say 100th. (That'd be 100,000)

A demo is always a good thing.

unless they feel there game is crap and they have to hide that fact behind cgi and spin/hype. To me it says thay believe in it enough to let you try it, thinking if you do you will like it enough to buy it. Demos are even more important with computer games that may or may not work properly or even good enough on your system to play reliably.

    wanted to do afterward's was re-install D2 !

I was not impressed and glad I did'nt give
