Really take a look at some of the posts from "certain individuals" with 3700+ post count. They are ALL over the place, contradicting themselves, throwing out statements and opinions that have no facts in them whatsoever. Honestly back in the day if I had things to say about Rygar, or Bubble Bobble for nintendo I would chat with my friends as we were outside playing football, or baseball or basketball etc.
So people have turned to forums like this.. because they are here, and they will be heard, seen..heard?
Just something to keep in mind.. the majority of people on here post because they have nothing else to do, it gives them something and that's fine, just keep it in mind when you read it.

Did you ever consider that many people's RL friends do not have the same interest in online gaming?
I wouldn't talk to any of my RL friends about MMOs because none of them are interested in them. They know I play, it isn't a dirty secret or anything, but the ones that do enjoy video games are mostly Xbox / Playstation players, and not MMOers.
This is a place for like minded people to discuss a topic that they are all interested in. So perhaps you should keep that in mind next time you decide to make wild assumptions.
hell none of my friends care about reading forums, let alone posting
about any topic: gaming, politics, movies, etc

For the most part i can only talk games with two friends and only one of them plays an mmo. WoW. And I can only talk games for so long before it becomes very apparent that the conversation will only last a few minutes.
The people here are pretty much my gaming peeps, for good or ill.
@OP: if I ever post anything that you disagree with,please feel free to point it out. I'll either argue my point or rescind it.

Same here. I have like maybe one friend who I might talk to on occasion about MMO's, and the only ones he plays are F2P Asian shitpiles. But we have a mutual interest in GW2, so I'll probably talk to him at some point about it.
Aside from that, I come on here because it's a place where I KNOW everyone is interested in the same topic, and I can find people into the same games I actually like and discussing them, etc.
So OP, while what you describe is probably true for many people, another great many have lives and yet still come here. Really makes ya think. Or... no wait, it's common sense, sorry.

Is'nt that the truth. I'm 42 and have been an avid gamer all my life but none of my friends are. They make fun of me for playing video games and I make fun of them for spening hundreds of dollars a year on stupid stuff like Hunting, Bowling, proffessional sporting events.

I guess I could have elaborated on the internet demographic i was speaking of, I didn't think I needed to. I enjoy forums, hey post some drink recipes, good books I may never have heard of, your thoughts on a pc game, all that is fantastic. But my opening statement said it all.
People with 3700 posts that contradict themselves constantly, that are posting just to have something to do, or at risk of nearing the dreaded T word that lives under a bridge, posting just to piss people off or get a reaction

Yes, the OP seems to be trying to insult without actually being literally insulting; implying that regular posters have crappy lives and are obsessed with trying to be bold on the internet... and that what they say is of less value because of that.
I think you will find that most people on here often keep forums up on their second monitor whilst playing a game or doing work on their computer, regularly check the forums during things like lunch breaks at work or just keep forums up in the background whilst they at doing something else, like watching TV or eating. I'm on the forums right now because I just sat down at my desk to have something to eat, like to browse while I'm eating sometimes.
I personally find that the people with the most posts usually have better things to say anyway or at least the most polite, though it's not always the case.
I really don't see what the point of this topic is in the first place.
i think internet is the last place where you can almost say anything , people just use that liberty the way they like

Forums are made for us people with special interests to discuss them with others with the same interests.
Sure, we can and most of us do discuss it with friends, but you get a lot more people to talk with here, people from all over the world with expperience from different games during the years.
The number of posts is not really what counts but what is in those posts and there are plenty of nice guys and gals here that write really good posts. Then of course there are some really bad and many people who have no idea what they are talking about but that happens to any forum.
I don't see the harm in discussing your interests on the net with likeminded people.
What's up with those people with less than 3700 posts, bunch o' forum noobs I guess.
You don't understand the finer points of FFA open world forum PVP which some of us enjoy. Those things that annoy you, time tested tactics utilized by many professional forum warriors in their day to day posting battles.
But mostly we're just bored here at work because we can't play MMO's.
