Some people play for fun. Some like to play it because their friends play it. Some don't want to leave after they've spent so much time with their characters.
There are countless reasons why. A few years from now when some asshole says "is there any reason to play Gw2" you can state the same reasons if you want. I don't mind.
My GF is like thi stoo...she will not budge from WoW....showed he the gameplay and described GW2 to her and she simply said..."looks like shit" and walked away....then again she hates PvP. And me personally i wont be getting it....its both a personaly thing and a fact that playing wow for 8years have burnt me out of MMORPG's...i recently played the WoW beta for MoP and all i can say is the game is screwed up sooo bad with the new talent setup and will not be getting any support from me...helpp ill prob throw eggs at Blizzard if they come to next years E3
If you got the spare 60 dollars, just buy it and check it out. Otherwise if you're happy with WoW currently, I'd say keep playing that until you get bored of it, before you hop onto GW2!
I played WoW since vanilla and i must tell you, GW2 is what you want if you always felt like WoW is missing something, WoW became something different and feels less fun and epic. I was looking for WoW to get awesome again (as in epic pvp, epic pve) or for some game to replace WoW for me. GW2 is going to do that for me. I think, i may as well do it for you.
I do not plan on quitting WOW so I'm thinking why to spend the extra $.
Many Wow players bought the first GW to get some different PvP that is less gear based.
Otherwise is really the main reason that it is different and even if you play a lot of Wow it is nice to have something a little different now and then. Unlike Wow you don´t need to play as much to keep your gear up to date and since it have no monthly fees it is an excellent backup game.
If you truly love Wow and never think about playing something else there is no reason but then again don´t I think you really would have made the thread if that was the case.
There are of course plenty F2P games as well that you can use as alt game but GW2 is more polished than any of them (possible excepted LOTRO) and it is more different from Wow than most which is rather important, you don´t want an alt game to be exactly like the game you don´t feel to play right now.
I think you should try it if there is a day you feel for another fantasy MMO beside Wow as variation.
It's not WoW.. if you're looking for a game that will amaze you and will make you want to quit WoW and never pick it up again, this isn't what you're looking for. However, if you want to play an MMO that feels diffferent from WoW as opposed to a clone, then you can't go wrong with this. WvWvW alone imho is good enough to deserve it's price tag and the competitive pvp is awesome that is actually proper competitive as opposed to Gear > Skill that you get in WoW.

There is no LFG...Wherever you go...there you are.:)
Im curious if they did introduce a lfg system would that be a deal breaker for you?
Come now, stretch your imagination, It wountnt be off the cards for them to build a system that puts x number of ppl together and teleports them to a guild wars 2 dungeon?

For something alittle diffrent. I dont intend to play it more than a couple hours a day and some days not at all after the first couple weeks. The nice thing is with no sub fee I wont feel like I'm wasting my money. Like I do with most game I'll drop 50+ hours in the first couple weeks getting my moneys worth. After that anymore time I spend is just a bonus.

So...yeah. Apparently, there's nothing to spend money on besides WoW. Enjoy WoW while it lasts .
Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.
I am a long term WOW player (7 years but a year off after Cata). I have had a blast with GW2 so far. No matter what anyone says GW2 is another evolution of WOW. Everything in the ui and combat is meant to make it easy for you to transition from WOW to GW2. OBVIOUSLY GW2 has a LOT that is different but I had no problem getting into the game and I am sure you will.
If you are like many WOW players you are mainly a pve player and that is where GW2 shines. Though others may trumpet WvWvW and sPVP I think the GW2 pve elements are second only (and maybe even tied) to WOW. The stories are better than SWTOR and the quest types are familiar and fun and similar (though cleverly disguised) to WOW. Even better are the dynamic events. I liked them in RIFT but these are better as many of them chain. I played one last night where we had to fight off skrits (low level mobs) to defend a minor settlement. When that event ended we had to go to their cave and collapse it. I love this chaining. It makes the world seem so much more alive.
GW2 is not perfect. Get used to dying a lot if you are solo. Crafting is very frustrating. The "skill by weapon" rather than just class takes time to adjust to (though once you get to switch weapons it gets better). The biggest annoyance to me is the lack of dedicated tanks and healers but that is one of the basic premises of the game so I have learned to live with it. Also at endgame gear never gets better (better looking but not more functional) so there is not much of a reason to continue. Yes, you can go back to lower areas, and as the system down-levels you, they can be challenging. My personal preference is that they down level too much but I am a noob so...
The good news about GW2 is that you buy it as a one time shot. No sub. Right now in WOW I am just marking time waiting for MOP. Trust me, when GW2 comes out I will be playing that game. I will return to WOW when MOP comes out but I can see dipping back into GW2 from time to time. The cost is worth it

Is there any reason to still play WoW?
Those posts count.. Looks like someone is feeling his game threatned by GW2

WoW is superior in every way. Don't waste your time with GW2.

Why did Marceline's dad eat her fries? I mean...cause she bought them and they were hers...
Sure, I played GW1 and WoW at the same time and left WoW after my raiding guild broke up about 2 years ago. Nothing wrong with WoW or GW2.
LOL, I c what u did there.
Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob?
Care to explain or you just a drive by poster?

If you enjoy pvp where you can gain insane gear superiority and face roll noobs even if you have no skill, stay in WoW.
If you enjoy pvp where gear matters little and where it's your own player skill which makes you win, welcome to GW2.
Same for PvE btw... no gear will make harder PvE content "facerollable".
Respect, walk

What does you playing WoW have to do with anything?
Try the game and/or do research on it, like it? -> buy it. Easy as that.
A big issue for wow players will be gw2 is not a loot grinder

Maybe you don't, but WOW does.

So just be smart.
