Perfect World's entire booth was Neverwinter dedicated this year at E3 and they had a playable demo, so I got to try it out. I figured I'd share my experience.
I have to say, I was REALLY impressed, and Im now looking forward to Neverwinter a lot more.
The gameplay is very action oriented, I was moving around the whole time during combat.
You get 'free' skills for left and right click (your mouse is the camera) and then skill bar skills. When an enemy charges any type of aoe skill, a red shape will appear on the ground where that skill is going to hit so you can dodge it (you can dodge in any direction by double pressing that direction). Attacking felt 'real' in that when I got hit I got knocked back or stagged and when I hit an enemy they got the same affect. The sound effects to the skill were also good.
Killing monsters and doing quests gave me a lot of different equipment of different rarities which reminded of Diablo (the left and right click attacking did too).
I'm not sure how the areas are going to work (instanced/large/small/etc.), E3 interviewers have called it an MMO, but originally it was marketed as an online co op RPG, like Diablo. I did see another player in my area while I was demoing.
Its going to have a world creation system like they added to STO which makes me even more excited.
Theres tons of videos on youtube both from E3 and Perfect World including a CG trailer thats pretty good (although Ive yet to figure out why the chick cut off her shoulder armor).

Can anyone point us toward some gameplay videos?

Here's the only one I found that wasn't a trailer and didn't really show gameplay.
This is the next game I am looking foward to.

It is difficult for me to wait for this game.
At least I have Skyrim to pass the time.
Since when is Tuesday a direction?
Action MMO made by Cryptic with a cash shop model and using another game's good name to get itself attention?
Nah, not for me.
meh asian stle graphics and animation.. not a big fan.. guess ill check it out tho.
I, too, am very interested in this game. It seems as though, even though it was represented at E3, there was very little coverage of it overall. Thanks, OP, for posting your impressions of Neverwinter.
I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. If I buy a candy bar at a store, oftentimes, I will drop it... so that it achieves its maximum flavor potential. --Mitch Hedberg
It'll probably be soon, they were handing out beta keys at E3 as well. When I asked when beta was going to start though, the guy said "I dont know" XD
If the game is coming out the end of this year though, they'll probably start this summer.
Looks quite bad from the gameplay footage, I must say. A shame as I was looking forward to seeing how this game would turn out. Still, it's not finished so the retail version might be better.
I am interested in this game, but only if Cryptic is not going with the 'standard' MMORPG model. Something closer to every player being able to run their own game and inviting friends along would work a lot better with what Cryptic is capable of. Have a dungeon or adventure creator from launch, and I think it could be great.
They are capable of character customization. They are capable of cranking a game out where the mechanics actually work. They seem really bad at creating a lot of content and they are really not that great at creating original content or features. So, build a game with customization, where the mechanics work, with 'enough' content for players, then let the players take control of where it goes from there. I know most player made content is garbage, but I think you could end up with enough player made gems that it would work.
Of course, I have no real idea what they're going to do with this game. The terms used to describe the game changed when Perfect World took over. Instead of just adding the word 'MMO' to describe the game, they might have decided to make some drastic changes to the game play.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
Wish I wasn't a killjoy but here it goes;
1. Silly "dodge / roll mechanic" | Check
2. Weak artwork implimentation | Check
3. Far stray from Tabletop AND NWN1 character design | Check
Looks like it might as well be called daggerdale. It could still be a fun game, just wish it was... more. DDO let me down so much, at least this one is in the forgotten realms right?
