Interesing. Not sure why people are so blown away. Its not like other games really 'limit' the size of the world themselves, many tend to purposely scale it back so new areas can be added, particularly being a bit sneaky in terms of giving plenty of possability to ship the world as they see fit later.
Having a full world map just means they have it planned out in design. While its still possible to modify it later, chances are they would then want to keep it similiar in design. Sure massive world, but theres not many MMos that really restrict the size of the world, its basically asking for trouble when all the world is taken up and they need to add new stuff.

They have talked about world changes, and hidden areas, underground and underwater. So there is more to the map that just the surface. Still, its going to take some time to explore all of that.
I'm hoping some of the world changes are big enough to actually make a difference with DEs and even personal stories.
The dragons waking up has already changed the face of Tyria as we know it, the potential that they have to work with based on this map really is astounding and I very much look forward to it.

Well, for starters even the original game (GW1) didn't cover even half that globe, even with all expansions. If they manage to do it with GW2 that will be impressive in & of itself. That is seriously a lot of ground to cover.
Also, anyone who has played the BWEs (or beta) knows just how massive the zones are. This is a massive amount of potential content (think larger than current WoW in scope). That's definitely something to be excited about if you have any interest in the game.
Also, like the first game, there are other realms (it's not restricted to the one planet). They even show bits of this in the starting areas. In the human area there are portals to the shadow realms (most likely Grenth's doman *the underworld*). In the charr lands you see portals from another dimension as well (perhaps fissure of woe, we simply don't know). Norn have this as well.
A large part of the original storyline was going into these alternate dimensions to deal w/ an enemy. This may not be as necessary with the dragons, but if they introduce any PvE elements pertaining to the original Gods (or even the fallen gods) then there is a lot of potential there as well.
- Anet has planned out a majority of their world already. However, the way they design this means there's a lot of flexibility. They've been pretty good about that thus far. So, even if they did need to change that, they have the ability to and aren't limited to a set path forward.

People, don't be ridiculous. Drawing a concept map doesn't mean that any but the tinies part of it will be implemented. It doesn't mean anything.

It doesn't mean that they have to follow the map as it is, but at some point they have to add new content and there is a possiblity that it could look like this and eventually becaome this massive. So it does mean something.

And I didn't say that it did. However Anet has laid the ground works for a full-fledged world.
It means that they do have a plan for filling it (however much), and we already know we can expect more content. Whether that means we re-explore areas from GW1 (Cantha & Elona), or we see brand new areas, remains to be seen. Hell, GW1 didn't uncover the entire world map that it offered, but it allowed players to explore a vast majority of it. This also doesn't mean that the entire world will be open zones either. I imagine parts of it will either be dungeons, or instances of some form.

Exactly. See EverQuest, SoL expansion.. The MOON? ALIENS? SoL (nice acronym eh? especially since it broke the servers for days), even with the graphic update and remodeling, was the beginning of the end.
Okay, rant off.
Please continue your regular programming of GW2 maps and stuff.
How sure are you about the placement of those colored areas? Cantha seems to fit, but look at that lake in the original Tyria map.. it seems like it doesn't correspond to the terrain. Perhaps it corresponds to the lake east of that?
And by the way, the color maps here (which are from GW1 + its 3 expansions), aren't actually the explorable areas in GW1. The explorable areas were maybe about 60% of what's seen - there were many areas which weren't covered where you couldn't go.
This also holds true to GW2 - if you look at it. I'm not saying that the actual playable area is small, but it is smaller than the full area of the in-game maps show it to be.
So, I actually think it's possible that eventually GW2 might feature a larger 'coverage' of the world, but the actual explorable areas will still be less than the total area. It's just the way they do things.

Very Nice.
Thank You,
That is insane if they add all of it in time to the game the world would dwarf any known mmo.

I wonder how much could cost travel using waypoints from one side to the other XD
It's over 9000. Fact.

I like to use alot of waypoints.
