Having disliked my time in the previous Beta Weekend, I thought i'd give it another shot, as quite a few people are raving about how good it is. I did have more fun than I did last time, and i did manage to have 20-30 extra FPS which was great. It's just not for me though, there are a variety of reasons, but the main one is the questing system. Like you said, I think it is repetitive. I hate having to grind mobs to level because you've done all the hearts for your area and you can't find any repeatable quests events to do. I ended up Alt+F4ing.
Perhaps I'm just fed up with the genre? That is what I've seen fans of the game suggest if you raise such complaints.

But just because I have fun does not mean you are and the other way around, we seems to play rather different and if you like being told what to do instead of walkingaround exploring this just ain´t the game for you.

I don't think this is going to happen with GW2. It's different from SWTOR where the arrogance came from the developers. Seems GW2 devs are being decent (i'm not following them too closely but that's my impression).
With GW2 the hype has come from the followers, and its understandable since the videos where simply amazing and the features looked great. Doesn't seem to be someone to "blame" if it goes dud, as it is the case with SWTOR. Not all works as planned and if you are honest, there's nothing to say.
Say what? Sorry, i like the game, but GW2 devs are full of it just like all devs. That dev tatoo (after BW's move, really?). Mike O'brien's "we'll be number one this time" (very funny indeed). Manifesto trailer making other mmorpgs look inferior. Lye says that their game is truly different and their taking a risk (like others aren't).

It was fun though! For me. Oddly enough, I get the impression that if I was playing the same way you were, I might have been bored out of my mind too! I tended to use hearts as a replacement for idling, certainly not as any sort of meaningful content.
I'm not sure if it's possible for you to have fun in GW2, but I will say that I'm not totally surprised. It's hard to enjoy a game when 1. The basic design of it isn't really aimed towards you and 2. You're sort of down on it ahead of time (Partly due to 1!)

Don't get me wrong, i'm not saying Anet is a bad company at all. I really like Colin Johanson. But devs always put on a smile, say nice things, act like their great people, but players friendships don't pay bills or give money.
All devs put other games down. TSW trailer talks about how other games are strictive, since it has a skill based system, but their game is also has alot of restricitions (and i like TSW alot).
Anet is not less arrogant or greedy than others devs. But this almost always comes from the higher ups. However, i don't beleive GW2 will go down the same path has SWTOR anyway.

Y... eah, I feel sort of the same way. When people complain about something being boring, I immediately wonder 'holy fuck, then why aren't you doing the fun parts?'.
I dunno. I haven't had any problems leveling with my 'hyperactive ferret' method of wandering around. It's horribly punishing in your average themepark MMO, where not following the quest bread crumb trail is basically bad for you. It's one problem I have with MMOS, my particular style of gameplay is punished. I guess I'm just glad to have something I can run around and goof off and do what catches my eye and find out I'm still keeping up with my friends.

as loke say there is more than 1 starter area.
but Quicklyscott, you playing it wrong, you never had to grind mobs if you didnt just go for hearts, hearts is only very few of the available DE´s. there is alot in between so you ve missed maybe half of the DE´s + all the story connected to the DE´s, which to me is the strong point of this game, finally a good way to tell stories in MMOs, dont understand why they felt it were needed to put in the "traditional" kind of questing as well.....which is another point against your grinding claim, if you dont want to just repeat DE´s you could do your "personal quest line"

My point was, your comparing GW2 to games like Fallout NV, which is like comparing apples and oranges.
Then you use that false comparison to bash GW2, when they are not even the same game, at all. Basicaly, you want GW2 to be something it is not, its not the games fault, its you.
iv been playing the same human ranger from last beta and its still amazing if you ask me, yes quite a few dynamic events are similar but the difficulty always makes things alot more interesting, like in the gendarran fields when the ascalon settlement gets taken over need a good team for that if the war beast and the captain herathi brilliant game and its burns my eyes with its beauty

Grinding mobs to level? You sir, are doing it wrong.
It doesnt sound like you are tired of the genre, on the contrary it sounds like you prefer more traditional offerings. I think the reason you arent enjoying it is because you want to have your hand held from quest hub to quest hub, or just sit there and grind XP, and GW2 just isnt that kind of game. Its a 'make your own adventure' type of game which heavily emphasises exploration.
I think a lot of people with no imagination will just not be interested in this game as it wont be holding your hand and directing you to where the 'fun' is.

I think this post is right on the mark. People who complain about PvE being boring seem to be searching for a more traditional and linear form of progression. No, I'm not saying this to anyone who is not enjoying GW2 to defend it. It is just that when you follow the reasoning behind these posts, it shows a certain type of approuch. The thing is that levels in GW2 are quite meaningless, therefore you actually shouldn't even care what your level is and you should not be focussing to increase it.
The only way in which you can genuinely complain about DEs being boring is when you rush through them as a means to gain levels. Why? Because if DEs are boring to you inherently, you could just stop playing MMOs in general, even full sandbox MMOs, because I do not see anything coming in the next 2 years that revolutionizes PvE beyond GW2s approuch. I am not saying that the DEs are on them selves truly revolutionary, they are not, but the way the you approuch the DEs is refreshing. If you mindlessly run and zerg through the events, looking at the technical details on how to complete them, and focus on leveling, then your GW2 PvE experience WILL NOT BE ENJOYABLE. The DE's are build around cause and effect, so you have to pay attention to what is going on in order to appreciate that. If you just see it as kill x or defend y as a means to complete whatever, then yes, it is boring. The point of GW2 is that you explore the world and find interesting stuff to do. If you do not like exploring at all, you will never be able to enjoy DEs in the way they are meant to be.
So yes, in the end it all comes down to playstyle. Allthough, I do think that Anet has to significantly tweak the leveling process in GW2, because right now it does feel off. I'd say they should increase the experience gain to give players more choice in where to go.
Perhaps I'll check out Dust 514 or Planetside 2. I think I am done with the basic fantasy mmo with a twist. These types of mmos have been done before time and time again.
Boy, will you be bored with these. Shoot, kill, shoot, kill, move, shoot, kill, geez lol. If you think GW2 boring, how in earth did you play any other MMO? The standard static mob grind of old was fun to you? :S Maybe you should stick to single player games like Mass Effect 3.. there it's like talk, move, press button, shoot, talk, move, use console, shoot, repeat.. oh wait xD
Myself I'm having a blast in GW2 and so far the only complaint I have is that the game looks ready and I'd like to play for real and not a beta anymore ;/

Allthough it will be put down as fanboyish, your post translates how I feel about the 'boring' complaints about GW2. I mean, really? Boring? I would love to see what kind of amazing MMO these people were playing before, because if GW2 can be called boring and repetitive, well then any MMO in gaming history has been extemely boring. Granted, the DEs on themselves have the same mechanics as quests, but the way they are implanted is at least at lot more refreshing and way less repetitive than any other MMO's PvE experience. So, WTF?
First thing I noticed is that they added a load more DE's since the last beta, probably because some people complained they couldn't find content (even though it was there), I think that's back fired, before once you got away from the first small area that's cramped with them on a short chain you had to explore to find more, now you just can't miss them and people are getting caught up in some cycle rather than moving on and exploring the wider world, which you really needed to do before.
The 'grind' is what you make yourself, move on and explore. We all knew that DE's are a fancy way of presenting content, that content being kill x, collect z, deliver a and escort y, if you thought anything other then you only have yourself to blame. It's a far more natural and immersive way to present content than going from quest giver A, return to quest giver A go to quest giver B.
Sorry it didn't suit your playstyle OP, best of luck finding the new game for you.
Overall I think this game was meant for the younger generation of players, you know the ones who are just starting out. ArenaNet seems to be catering to the younger crowd. They want to make simple easy games for the casuals. I need something more intense, more mature themed to keep me interested.
I'm 43, played all mainstream and most smaller MMORPGs since UO beta, and this is the best game I've played since Asheron's Call.
It's definitely not "easy" either... maybe you missed something about how the game is played if you find it boring and repetitive? Try moving to other areas. This is not WoW style quest hubs where you have to stay for ages.

Haha, I'm playing it basically a lot like I played Asheron's Call 'ooh, what's over THERE? Holy crap, badguys! Let's fight them! Oh no, now I'm going to run over here! Whoa, I found someplace! I have GOT to get a screenshot by this, oh no, bmore badguys!'
Back before games like WoW taught me how an MMORPG is supposed to be played, haha.
I am feeling a bit worn down by all the dynamic events. I thought they would be a cool "addition" to general questing, but "IT FEELS like I am constantly getting into DE". It's wearing a bit thin for me.
Umm the whole game is basically made up of Dynamic Events. This has been known for many many years. The lack of generic questing is why most people are excited about the game.....
I think the DE-System is brilliant. However, yes, it is repetetive, because most of the time you enter a zone and there are mobs to be killed. But keep in mind, that it has several advantages:
just run around and do whatever you want
no kill-stealing
no ninja-looting
no running around and searching for the right quest-mobs
no waiting for respawn
a game mechanic that brings players automatically together
In the end it is still a lot of killing mobs. If you do not like that, you can concentrate on your personal story and pvp. One big advantage in GW2 is, that you can earn XP in various ways.
Many testers have already criticized the fact, that there is a lot of killing centaurs in the starting human zone. But hey, you can rate the DEs in beta and write a little message to ArenaNet, maybe more players should use this feature correctly.
Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy shit we don't need.
Played about 3 hours of it today and I must say I really got bored. Event upon event upon event and it repeats itself through out the entire game. It is like they took WoW quests and changed them into scripted events, how dull. You do the same thing over and over again. They need to make events more exciting. Event bosses are boring as hell, they just stand there and spew things out at you. I wouldn't exactly call that exciting. Long time fan here but I'm afraid ArenaNet has dropped the ball on this one. Never thought I would see that happen. Graphics are nice but graphics alone do not make a good mmo. Perhaps I'll check out Dust 514 or Planetside 2. I think I am done with the basic fantasy mmo with a twist. These types of mmos have been done before time and time again.
no diea which game you are playing, but stateing that 3 hours of gameplay represent the whole game is quite lame, even for a troll.
and no, they have not, there is not a single mmo out there with propper pvp.
thanks for sharing your opinion, but your statements are just plain wrong.
"I'll never grow up, never grow up, never grow up! Not me!"
I beleive there is no right or wrong way to play this game. If you don't like it that is to bad move on, your minds are made up and I'm not going to try and change your thinking. Press on and good luck to you!
I have found the game to be one of the freshest and exciting games in years. I can finally adventure the way I have always wanted to. I am not chasing DEs, hearts, or any other point on the map, I'm just investigating every little part of the game I can.
If you guys that are complaining about it being boring then it is your own fault, Anet has given a wonderfully new way to play an mmorpg and I pity those of you that can't actually change your mindset and see what I and many others see.
I think if you can't find something exciting about this game than the fantasy mmorpg genre is no longer meant for you.
Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.

There is so much wrong with this. "This type of mmo" has NEVER been done before. Go on ahead and name me one (and Rift doesn't count...at all). Your statement screams "i have never played this", and if you did, then i don't really know what you were doing. It sounds like you just mashed a bunch of terribly uniformed complaints together and put them in a barely readable paragraph.
No. I just want to feel immersed and experience actual excitement now and then when I play any kind of RPG. GW2 isn't doing that for me ... at all.

I actually have had a lot of fun, though I think I'm playing it completely differently from you. I find myself leaving a lot of hearts behind, and spent a lot of time screaming 'oh shit!' over mumble as I come running past my friend being chased by something scary, until we either manage to beat it down together, or he can finagle the monster away enough that I could be rezzed.

Aye, maybe I need to try different things. But so far the staple world content isn't doing much for me. Even generic, quest based, incentivised content like in Swtor has felt more fun and rewarding (rewarding as in: "compelling").
I'm not sure if it's possible for you to have fun in GW2, but I will say that I'm not totally surprised. It's hard to enjoy a game when 1. The basic design of it isn't really aimed towards you and 2. You're sort of down on it ahead of time (Partly due to 1!)
True I always had my doubts whether this would be for me but sadly the game hasn't done much to take that skeptic stance away. (Apart from cities, sounds and atmosphere of inhabited places).
Though it's weird you were able to like Diablo 3 and other such games so much.
I really dislike D3, at least the beta. I didn't buy it yet and probably won't (unless it sells for 20 bucks in a year or so). You must have mistaken me for someone else on this bit. No offense though.
I think maybe... maybe the problem is that if GW2 was NOT an MMO, but 'some other type of game where you shoul dnot compare it to any particular genre', you might be able to enjoy it, but because you want certain things out of an MMORPG that GW2 is not delivering, it gets massive negative MMO points from you.
Not sure. I simply want some challenge, excitement and depth to gameplay and to be immersed. Whether I am playing a mmorpg or a single player rpg, a themepark or a sandbox. So far GW2 hasn't done that much to draw me in on any of those particular reigns. Maybe it's like some people say and it's a case of mmorpg burnout, at least fantasy themepark burnout.

I'm not sure if it's possible for you to have fun in GW2, but I will say that I'm not totally surprised. It's hard to enjoy a game when 1. The basic design of it isn't really aimed towards you and 2. You're sort of down on it ahead of time (Partly due to 1!)
Though it's weird you were able to like Diablo 3 and other such games so much.

Respect, walk
Are you talkin' to me? Are you talkin' to me?

Haha, I'm playing it basically a lot like I played Asheron's Call 'ooh, what's over THERE? Holy crap, badguys! Let's fight them! Oh no, now I'm going to run over here! Whoa, I found someplace! I have GOT to get a screenshot by this, oh no, bmore badguys!'
Back before games like WoW taught me how an MMORPG is supposed to be played, haha.
I will be playing the game a lot.
Little forum boys with their polished cyber toys: whine whine, boo-hoo, talk talk.
In the end it is still a lot of killing mobs. If you do not like that, you can concentrate on your personal story and pvp. One big advantage in GW2 is, that you can earn XP in various ways.
Many testers have already criticized the fact, that there is a lot of killing centaurs in the starting human zone. But hey, you can rate the DEs in beta and write a little message to ArenaNet, maybe more players should use this feature correctly.
Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy shit we don't need.
no diea which game you are playing, but stateing that 3 hours of gameplay represent the whole game is quite lame, even for a troll.
and no, they have not, there is not a single mmo out there with propper pvp.
thanks for sharing your opinion, but your statements are just plain wrong.
