I'm not shure if many of you are familiar with any game engines but before i go out and buy a commercial game engine, i was gonna create a little "something" with a cheap open sorce game engine. some of the bigger names are ogre, cyrstal space, and Irrilcht. any one, use any of these in the past or know of better ones that i might look into? thx

Take a look at nevrax's powerful NeL engine. They made Saga of Ryzom with it and it has a lot of flexibility. I understand its open source too.

I was gonna say Unreal Engine, but that's hardly cheap.
How about the source engine? Not sure but the source SDK may be free.. or you might have to buy HL2 do use it... I heard there's a bigger SDK coming out that you will have to pay for.
Go to http://www.devmaster.net/engines/ for a review of all low cost game engines. I am partial to TrueVision myself.
Also stop by the game development library for all that other stuff at http://www.game-development.net/
ok i feel dumb for asking this, but where can i download/buy this to use?
unreal 3 engine is gon be hella leet. wait for it.
Indeed I like TrueVision aswell.
