Pre-purchase but I had seen and played the game before that.

I'm one of the 3.7% who don't intend to play the beta and haven't pre-purchased the game. I fully intend to play GW2 when it goes live on release (it's a must have game for me) but until then i'd rather not play a beta with no firm release date. It felt like i'd played too much of ToR in beta before release any way and with GW2 maybe even over six months away i'd rather not torture myself with the wait. I'll play other stuff before then.

That is the most ridiculous theory I've heard in a while. So, by this reasoning, everyone who ever bought a game, would never say a wrong word about it, because they are monetarily committed? But.. then we would never hear any negative reviews or opinions about *any* game ever released, except maybe by the press and those who pirated the games and therefore are not "monetarily commited".

If anything it's the exact opposite. Those who spent money, are more willing to find holes and nitpick because they paid for soemthing they expected to be good and worth that money. If the game was below the expectations the insane hype creates, trust me I would be the first to burn ANet down for betraying my trust. This is the more reasonable expectation of how people would behave. If we don't see (m)any negative GW2 opinions form those who played it, perhaps it is simply due to the game living up to the (ever growing) hype? :)

This. And actually, I'm in exactly the same situation, too, for Rift and GW2, except that I didn't buy collector editions but only digital deluxe. Rift was a waste of money for me, and I do not hesitate to trash that game every time I have to talk about it, even though you will NEVER find me doing that on the Rift forum, since I have enough respect for those who happen to enjoy that game. "You are not in Azeroth anymore" = biggest lie of the last few years of MMO releases. Not only it's Azeroth, but it's a boring, linear, soulless azeroth not even remotely close to the Blizzard product in both quality and quantity.

Calling people liars and dismissing their opinion just because they bought a game is nonsense.

Has nothing to do with lying, I think you are misunderstanding why some people are saying things like this. There's a difference between "buying" a game, and pre-purchasing a game. Buying a game usually means a game is released, there are reviews on it, peers to listen to as to how a game plays yadda, yadda, all reports of GW2 are incomplete, as the game presented has been incomplete, they're still making major changes...

Those who pre-purchase have "faith" is one thing they like to say, they trust A-net is another. This is all fine and dandy as a reason to support the company on a personal level, but it's not something many who question the overall game are going to feel.

With that said it makes perfect sense why Lex or others would feel that way about opinions being spread based on faith and trust. Early adopters tend to have faith and trust in the companies they early adopt from. There's also a difference between beeing monetarily commited and being sold on an idea. Would you deny you were sold on the idea of GW2 before fully seeing it during your BWE experience?

The biggest factor here is no one has seen the full game, yet many still say things like, "it's all there" "all the hype has been delivered on" etc. Yet you wonder why people are saying things like this and feel such a way about those offering feedback?

And your point? I don't think there is anyone that think pre-purchase is the same as buying?

Those who question the overall game should wait for the "reviews" to come out first then. Those who pre-purchase the game should play the game and provide feedback to make it better, that's the whole point of a beta. Those who question the game can wait until the game is finished. They are still adding/removing/tweaking features.

With that said it makes perfect sense why Lex or others would feel that way about opinions being spread based on faith and trust. I was sold on the idea of GW2 after watching their "MMO Manifesto". And when you say 'feel THAT way' what way is that exactly?

The biggest factor here is no one has seen the full game, yet many still say things like, "it's all there" "all the hype has been delivered on" etc. Yet you wonder why people are saying things like this and feel such a way about those offering feedback?

Even from what we've seen so far "it's all there" and "all the hype has been delivered on", that's a truth for anyone that played the game during the BWE. Nothing is missing.... Why not say that to those who "claim" the opposite? Yes it's not a full game but that doesn't mean the game is any different from what they "promised"

I would pay 60$ to play Guild Wars 2 beta instead of buying a new "full" game. The beta itself offers far more content than many 60$ games out there

Did you read the posts I was commenting toward? And the point is the overall post, not one line of it. This was a set up to what I was going to say.

The big factor here is this is an MMO, you can't judge an MMO as being "all there" before seeing it "all" there and working for months (more than just a weekend), maybe I've just seen too many releases and how they tend to go around here. Lots of promises made by those playing Beta followed by months of bitching about said promises.

    Hmmmmm

Has ANYONE got into the BWE / stress test events that HAS NOT prepurchased? Looks like that whole "sign up for beta access" thing a few months ago was just to judge the number of people interested. Doesnt seem like they have given any keys out

I know of people who got in before the pre-purchase went live so it was legit. Whether people are getting in after that? No idea.

Step 1- Buy an AK-47 from you local convenience store (easy in my case)

Step 2- Go to Anet HQ, ring door bell. (had to cross the sea since i'm from Europe)

Step 3- Pull out gun, demand Beta Key, kill anyone who gets in the way (no prob with my experience)

    Step 4- Run away laughing.

Step 5- Remember half way home you could have just demanded the full game right there, facepalm yourself, and go "Doh"

I got an invite right after I purchased it, lol. Now i have 2 beta accounts.

    There is NO miracle patch.

95% of what you see in beta won't change by launch.

    Hope is not a stategy.

Why do you need to work for months to realise if everything is there or not? Guild Wars 2 provides the same main gameplay experience on all levels, you don't play two games like in other MMOs.

You don't have to play for more than a weekend to see Dynamic Quests or how the insta-travel works or underwater combat or sPVP or anything for that matter. The only viable concern is if they keep this up or make mistakes on the way to max level... which I doubt.

For those that feel prepurchase=rose colored glasses...imagine if arenanet had failed to provide what they have stated they were going to.  You really think that a few hundred thousand people wouldn't have raised the roof, screaming, 'Fail! Fraud! Sucks!'?  Yeah, I'm sure that's the case.  You've convinced me!

I slept with multiple Arenanet employees using a Mass Effect dialogue sequence, after which I acquired my key.

    This is not a game.

I made a shrewd entertainement investment and pre-purchased it. My financial advisor told me "if you play for 1 year the cost is under 17 cents US a day".  I asked him "what if it is as awesome as WoW and I play for 5 years or so"? He told me "it would be about  3.3 cents a day"!  "What about the subscription fee" I asked? Before he could comment, Mike Morhaime of Blizzard crunched his skull in with Garfrost's Two Ton Hammer.

I waited for nightfall then I stealthly breeched Arena.net's high security defnses. Once I was through the laser fields, trip mines and security droids I hacked into their system, Swordfish style, and invited myself to beta. Then I stole a Charr plush and left.
