MMO game that resembles UO the most??

  • I ve played UO for 5 years  and stopped a couple years ago... Ive tried a few along the ways and they all failed to fulfill me the same way UO did... tried DAoC, EQ and EQ2. My question is(as the topic states)... coming off UO being such a big UO fan... are there any MMOs out there that resemble something along the line of UO's gameplay? Any suggestion from anyone especially post UO Players would be appreciated!!! THANKS!

I haven't never played UO, but if I have understand right UO is more or less "sand box" and open pvp MMORPG. If you like from that kind games, then maybe EvE-Online (strong player created economy and open PvP - but no roleplaying) or SWG (player created economy and strong roleplaying possibilities - warning: currently SWG is heading to Jedi wannabee war and loot based economy). If you are able to wait bit longer then maybe you should wait for Roma Victor, Face of Mankind, Dark and Light or Vanguard: Saga of Heroes. All these games seem to have strong sand box features (player created economy, housing, more or less open pvp, etc...).

I just bought Lineage II from Amazon a few days ago. For years I have been holding myself back due to all the negative comments about hackers and botters and grind. However I decided I needed something to hold me until the Fall/Winter Releases. I can honestly say, after playing UO for 8 years, EQ for a month, Shadowbane for 2 months, E&B for 2 months, City of Heroes for 3 months, Star Wars Galaxies for 7 months, World of Warcraft for 6 months, EVE for a week, and now Lineage for a few days. Nothing has come as close to UO as Lineage. It may be level based, but I was actually PKed my first day more than once on Newbie Island. I even lost some arrows and exp. It wasn't quite the thrill of UO because I was too low leveled to be worried about it, but it came damn close. The whole feel of the game is like that of UO. Now there isn't any crafting really and clothing and armor are simple(like UO) but not with much variety. All I can say is that the over-all feel and open pvp is like that of UO.

It would help a lot if you would tell us what "features" of UO you truly liked and felt added to the game's enjoyment for you.  It makes a huge difference.  If it was just the open PvP for example that will lead to different answers than if it was the no class/skill based system.
