Quests I never want to See again

dontadowdontadow Member UncommonPosts: 1,005

Trying to get more of my money's worth from the 300 bucks I shelled out on SWTOR.  It took me 3 hours to quit for the day. But it did remind me of several quests I never want to see again in an MMO.

I need you to get infected by this creature so  I can get a sample of your blood ::

I fight 20 creatures I am still not infected. Wouldn't I just let them bite me so i can be infected.

I hope GW2 does not have any ilogical quests where I am playing against math and not logic.  I get the programming is probably rolling 1 on a 100 sided dice, but in reality I shoudl be able to

  • Find a heart in every monster

  • Grab a plunk of hair from any animal

  • Let a creature bite me.

The quests don't really exist in that fashion tbh. In SWTOR (and most MMOs) the quests are always about you, specifically. In GW2 that's what the personal story is for. The rests go between increasing your influence in an area / helping others to complete a public event that happens to be going on.

There isn't a lot of 'kill X to get Y exp'. It's more 'this guy needs help', you can do X, Y, or Z to help him. Do any combination of the 3 until he's alright again. Then, more often than not it keeps chaining. Many times resulting in some type of boss or mini-boss, or you get to see an area all nice and shiny again.

You're getting the Renown Hearts and Dynamic Events mixed up...

Renown Hearts are where an NPC needs help, and there are several ways to accomplish that. Once you've helped him, it can't be repeated. These tasks don't chain, but you are likely to encounter dynamic events while in the area.

Dynamic events pop up in the world seemingly at random. They can chain to new events once completed, and are infinitely repeatable.

Back to the OP, GW2 handles this really well. Doing something that should logically contribute to the event/renown heart always will. Dynamic events don't really lend themselves to fetch quests in general because they are group-oriented, and meant to be real actions that take place in a "living" world. You can understand how having a dynamic event that simply says "Collect 10 skale fins" would be boring and pointless. It would ignore the whole ad-hoc grouping aspect. Similarly, instead of "Kill 10 bears" you get "Protect the bee farm from the hungry bears" and the bears come in waves.

No the the quests "this guy needs help with X,Y, or Z' are actually not dynamic events. They are called hearts and don't have any chaining after your complete them. this might help understand more

Nothing is worse than WoW's Poo fettish. How many quests can you have in a game where you have to dig through feces?

and in 2 cases eat what you dug up.

I know about the heart system. I also know that they point you towards DEs. So you don't always realize you're doing them, because their objectives a lot of times coincide w/ the DEs. They are basically there for people who don't get the DE in an attempt to ease them into that way of questing.

I can deal with almost any kind of quests but the slow moving escort quests are very possibly the worst kind of quest Ive ever done.  Horrible.

Any kind of escort quest makes me want stab the devs. In the FACE. With a soldering iron. Especially one where the person you're supposed to escort is really fragile and moves like a snail on downers. Oh, but he'll somehow manage to aggro every single mob onto himself with his piddly 5 damage per hit. ARRRGH.

I agree, slow and easy just make it really boring. Alot of MMOs have this type of quest / event, including GW2.

No kidding.  I can think of at least two from Burning Crusade that involve sifting through poo.

I will say that the Aftermath section of the final quest is pretty great though.

You guys should try out Terra! You will "LOVE" the quests there. :p

    Example:

    - go kill 10 tree

    you deliver the quest

    - now go get be 5 wood from the same trees (you kill like 20-30 to be able to get 5 wood....)

    you deliver the quest

    - now go kill moooooreee trees but from the other ones (same mobs, differently named with a slightly differently painted texture...)

You can imagine that after a few levels and grinding mostly the same mobs with different names over and over through 2-3 areas, I quit the game and deinstalled it.

I got more invitations for it from the US and EU versions but I didn't bother anymore.

Went back to GW1 instead and did a few quests in Nightfall.

Was more fun even the game is from 2004.

I'm certain that the quest writers intentionally created these quests to assert their dominance over the WoW populace.  When I read in the quest details about what I had to do, I immediately dropped the quest, q'd for a BG, murdered a gnome and then logged out for three months.

Well when i was watching a few guys play i watched them do one quest in the starter area where they had to collect 30-40 egg things and place them in a nest.. this took a them a long time and looked very boring..

I am afraid even GW2 you wont get away from your standard kill and colelct quests and there are quite a few of them, tho there are some other qutie interesting ones i seen and that have been mentioned here.

Well unfortunately for you, there are still tons of escort events in Guild Wars 2. However at least they are optional and at least they will be more enjoyable, because you'll be doing them with other players.

And to complete that event/heart they could also do riddles, or just kill stuff. In GW2 there tends to be multiple ways to complete an objective. Giving players options is a good thing.

The entire newbie death knight, goblin and worgen areas after their first playthrough.  Would probably feel the same about the Panda expansion newbie ground too.

The worst quest I ever seen ( i been playing since M59) is EQ2s book quests where some animals and insects have eaten a book. You kill 10 of each creature and the tenth have a page inside them (gaory), you kill a whole bunch of deer, bettles and i dunno what and then you put it together into a book.

I mean there have been many dumb quests during the year but this take the retard cake.
