Why did I get a warning that my mailbox was full

when it said I had 39% of my quota still available? I deleted most of the saved messages to free up space. I'm guessing that my quota was full if you count both the inbox and the outbox. But the bar showing how much free space you have only considered the inbox and ignored the outbox.

Have you also checked your unverified inbox?
My unverified inbox was completely empty. I delete those as soon as they come in, as they're always from spammers.
Deleting messages from the outbox didn't change how much of my quota it said was available. Deleting messages from the inbox did immediately. I had maybe 50% more messages in my inbox than my outbox, so that would fit if my quota was full from 61% inbox and 39% outbox.
Just to be clear, I think it's likely that the problem is one of the remaining mailbox space meter being wrong, rather than the site erroneously saying that my mailbox was full.
