And the games are actually rather different. All that said I think Aion will loose many western players to GW2 but players can very well enjoy Aion and not GW2.

No they are not. Arena.net is Guild Wars 2. Aion is Aion Team Development.. NCSoft is just the Publisher.
NCsoft fully owns both studios. They call all the shots. It is their prerogative to let Anet do their own thing or lead them by the nose if they so wish.
Still, these two games are quite different both in flavor and in-game mechanics. There is a market for both and both games have a low barrier of entry. In fact, you will be able to play them both and Aion will be cheaper if you choose to avoid the cash shop.

Well, I think it's unlikely that GW2 will launch before the end of summer, so there is nothing stopping you from playing Aion, since it's already out. And since it's F2P, if you don't like it, you can just uninstall.

As most people replied, they are 2 completely different games, I am a casual player, play around 3-4 hours a week and I still manage to play 4 mmorpgs.

Even if it was from the same dev then so what? A lot of people prefer Lineage 2 to Aion too. Just because they are from the same dev studio doesn't mean the one is improved version of the other.

Because they are entirely different games? GW2 wont have a traditional PvE end-game (raids, gear progression etc) for people who enjoy that sort of gameplay.

Don't know. Started playing Aion a few days ago.
Haven't played one in years and wanted to get back in the mood for when Guild Wars 2 releases.
Starter island was pretty fun but lineair. Just arrived in the Abyss. Can't say I'm that impressed so far but I don't care for Asian style.
