yeah, cuz mmos based on existing ip's are so successful lately.....lotro, ddo, DCUO, warhammer, hello kitty, etc......... :P

Grouping in Old school mmo's: meeting someone at the bar and chatting, getting to know them before jumping into bed.  Current mmo's grouping: tinder.  swipe, hookup, hope you don't get herpes, never see them again.

Blah it’s going to be browser based. This is off of their home page.

Not too excited for this. GoT is all about the politics, that's what makes it entertaining. The world itself is very simple, and without the politics and characters, pretty uninteresting. It's 'almost' basic medievil.

They might pull it off, but I'm not holding my breath.

I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

Why do I have the odd feeling this is going to be like Evony or Castle Empire? Also I will never play another Bigpoint game after their "we are perfectly fine selling p2w items in our cash shop" comment they made a few months back.

There are many IPs that would make great MMOs, but imho Game of Thrones is not one of them.

That's kinda what I expected, the moment I saw it wased based on the HBO series.  Odds are, it's going to be more of a hype-support product for the franchise rather than a full fledged MMO.  Probably along the lines of Fusion Fall and Pirates of the Carribean.  Or even worse... Battlestar...

They already made a Game of thrones strategy PC game which was a very big failure, hopefully Game of thrones is not cursed in the gaming world.

Bigpoint is a bad thing for Game of thrones MMORPG right?

As much as I love the Game of Throne novels, I cannot see how this would be a good MMO. Too much relies on slow build up, dialogue, intrigue and mystery. The player could play IN the world sure, but never really a part of it, at least not easily.

I just finished re-reading books 1-5 and have come to the conclusion that Martin is not a very good writer.  After book 1 the books fall apart.  It seems as if he makes his plot decisions by flipping a coin. There is no plan, little character development and plain juvenile themes and motivations.

All that being said I would be excited to see the world. to see the wall, to see King's Landing, the Iron throne islands and more.  The world is pretty epic.  But there is so much world and so little development time.  I doubt they will able to finish much of the world prior to release.

My bet is it would be a PvP focused game with an emphasis on castle seiging as PvP requires so much less development time and it would appeal to the younger audience that the books appeal to.

There would be a lot of factions.  Stark. Lannister, Greyjoy, Bolton, Stannis. Dorne, Martrell, Daenerys, the Knight's Watch and daerney's long lost brother (I forgot the name).  How many would be player factions?  Certainly the factions and the houses open up lots of PvE quests and the possibility of multiple PvP factions or PvP alliances.

Not that I'm even remotely interested in this game...but in regards to a prior quote....most motivations are juvenile( I actuallly am giving a benefit of doubt because I really think all motivations stem from base desire. We only apply restrictions in order to elevate ourselves from other animals). No matter how much you try to justify them otherwise. Sex, money, power are all base desires. The more one gets of any or all of them the "cooler" one believes themselves to be. Again just my bullshite opinion.lol.

I've always said it would be a terrible idea and not just for companies like Bigpoint. Even if one of the giants were to do this there's no way they could get the suspense and intrigue which makes the books so good across in a game world. Sure, a game set in that world would be ok, but it just wouldn't be what the books were about in the slightest.

To me the storytelling of Bioware merged companies such as someone like Blizzard I still couldn't see it, a browser based Bigpoint game is doomed. IP's like Transformers sure, there's not much to them, but take away the parts that can't be conveyed in a video game from something like GoT and you're left with nothing.

I get that feeling, also. However something that mixes Lords of the Realm with Shadowbane in the Game of Thrones setting would warm the cockles of my heart immensely.

Judging by the pics this does not look like a low budget game, Im no expert but would the budget be enough to do something else other than a computer game? maybe one of the following

    -movie lenght episode (or two?)

    -animated TV series

-hasbro toys... well ok thats a bad idea

Want to know how good products are that are done by Bigpoint? Try BSG:Online done by Bigpoint.

If you DON'T want to try it here's a video detailing how boring & terrible this game is: Video

The game is also insanely Pay-To-Win with the "End-Game" ships being from the cash-shop only, and you can buy them the very beginning. They're about $60 to $120 btw. Not to mention ammo-types that are best used in pvp are from the cash-shop ONLY as well, and cost a pretty penny.

This is how badly done BigPoint games are, and how badly done "Game of Thrones: Online" will be. I sometimes wonder if large IP holders ever ACTUALLY do research into game developers before signing a contract with them?

After Star Wars and various other IP MMOs.

I hate seeing novels / comics / ideas that I love turned into MMORPGs.

This has to be the feeling hardcore Beatle's fans must have felt when their music started being bastardized in commercials and ads.

That said; I'll probably try it. Just cuz I'll TRY anything.

I used to play MMOs like you, but then I took an arrow to the knee.
