is the game ready to play yet?

neorandomneorandom Member Posts: 1,681

so heres the deal, i have the ce box for this thing, but when i did the head start on it, it was unplayable, ran like crap, wasnt any fun, they didnt even charge people to keep playing from what i hear.

have they fixed the game up yet?  would it be worth reinstalling off my ce disks and patching up to try again?  im a ff fan, i missed playing 11 in its prime, i wanted to love 14, but when it launched, o dear god, it was vangaurd all over again *so many nightmares*

thanks in advance.

Kinda, I personally wouldn't resub though.

  • neorandomneorandom Member Posts: 1,681

well i never subbed or played my free month, so if theyve fixed it so its actually playable, couldnt hurt to do the free month, unless its not worth the patching time.....

It's a lot better than it was at launch, most bugs are fixed and it runs smoothly, depending on your rig.

I played while it was free but once I reached the level cap, I found myself bored and unmotivated. The game lacks content, and with Square Enic holding out until 2.0 it really isn't worth the asking price to subscribe at the moment,

Wait for the PS3 release (version2.0), thats when they say its ready.  They have made a lot of changes since release including chocobo mounts, but a lot more changes to come, the hardcore fans are still playing though.

2.0 is a total redesign of the engine, the world layout and the content, including the introduction of PvP.

You can read information about 2.0 here. Scroll down to the bottom and you will see four PDFs.

As for it's current state, it really is subjective. They have done a lot of work to it, but some of the more major issues can't be addressed until the engine has been rebuilt. A lot of people do not have a problem with the current engine's limitations and are enjoying the game just fine. But others are put off by it.

You will not have to rebuy the game to get the 2.0 version, to answer that question.

cool thanks for the info, now if theyld ever get back to me on what i had for my username so i can recover my account (tried everything i could think of for login but i must have used something obscure) since they make you contact support for it and its apparently only open mon-fri and takes 2 full days (hell it took 2 days to get the automated message that my ticket was recieved and it takes 2 buisiness days to look at it)

at least i set up security questions i could remember....

edit: muahahaha i did a search in my emails and found the original one that confirmed my account setup, thank god i never clean that fucker out except for the junk folder.

the game improved a lot but i personally recommend     waiting for 2.0, unless you want to do the stuff that wont make it to 2.0 like the primal battles (achievements for the battles will be locked forever after the game moves to 2.0).

I can't see how OP's rig ran it like crap when I run it on a 5870/Phenom II X4 BE/4 GB DDR3 with 30-50 fps. Even if you max it at 1080p, OP should have playable fps.

But to answer the question, the game is fun for some (mostly those who enjoyed FFXI, but some still don't like it). I myself am enjoying and have been enjoying it since the patch that removed physical levels. It's a slower paced game built with a controller in mind, so don't come in expecting a great UI with keyboard/mouse and fast leveling/action.

I'm enjoying myself.  The controls are slightly clunky.  And the market system takes some getting used to (would it kill SE to put a "search" bar on anything?!?!?!).

I like how the leve quests regenerate to some unknown cap, so if I go a few days without doing any, I have a ton to blow at the end of the week.

I also like my current shtick in the game: I level my THM to farm materials, I farm materials to level my crafting, I level my crafting to get better gearz and get rich, I get better gearz and get rich to level my THM.  Its sandboxy enough for me to enjoy, but still has themepark stuff if I feel like watching a movie.

Think they will open a fresh server when 2.0 releases?  Id kind of hate to come back and be 2 years behind everyone else.

When 2.0 releases, they will be opening new servers. On top of that, they will temporarily be locking the old servers so that no characters can transfer to the new.

When newbies post in the official forums, it's pretty diverse on which worlds they've chosen. As you might imagine, there are a lot more old players than new at this point. However, they've been picking up as more people like yourself are becoming interested in the game.

I would suggest posting this question in the official forums. Even if no other new player responds, there are several friendly players willing to help out a newbie, and you may even find yourself a linkshell (guild) to join.

At 2.0 they are going to open fresh servers which will be limited to new characters only at least temporarily.

So if you want a fresh start without being behind anyone on the server there you go.

So for the people who are playing it and enjoying what are the typical activities that you do in a  stretch of playtime? Right now i'm playing ffxi but even though it's fun and has near endless amounts of content another year and it will be even more outdated then it is now so I always keep my eye out.

In a typical week with 3-4 sessions, at 5-6 hours each in ffxiv can I do a lot of things? Meaning a diverse amount content or do you pretty much do the same thing each and everyday because there is still a lack of content? I don't want to spend 75% of my time leveling and 25% of my time crafting. I want to go do fun missions, quests, fight bosses, and all that, is that available yet? Last I heard that didn't seem to be the case.

There is still limited content, and will be until after 2.0.

I generally do Ifrit/Moogle when I am online every day.  But that doesn't mean that is the only thing.

You'd be doing GC missions, and there are quite a few of them.  Then either provisioning turn ins or chocobo escorts to get seals (hamlet defense isn't coming until 1.22 so it is a while off) which you can save up or turn in for existing gear.

You could darkhold/the roaming NM's for achievements, but the gear is outdated at this point unfortunately so other than for that or fun there isn't much reason to do them.

You could also farm the stronghold items, but most of them other than the tank set (sentinel's) aren't worth doing really.

There won't be a great deal of content being developed for this version because most of the team is working on 2.0.  But there will be I think a couple more primal fights, 2 new dungeons coming out in a week, hamlet defense, and the Legatus battle.  If you are looking for the amount of meaningful content XI has though come back when 2.0 hits.

New players starting out now should have plenty to keep them busy until 2.0 unless they are super hardcore with what is here now, and what is releasing soon.  But it is still light on content for the most part.
