1989 called, they want their game back. The only way this will thrive is if you completely ruin it for the people it was made for and by. let it be what it is for those who enjoy it.
You mean all the fourteen players still playing?
Jokes aside, Darkfall would benefit greatly from EVE-style scaling "security". Give the carebears their 1.0, a safe (well almost) place to do their thing and give the hardcore PvP people their 0.0, a jungle with the rules of the strongest.
EVE is the only successful FFA Full Loot PvP game, because it gives the players the freedom to choose how safe or risky they want their gaming experience to be.
This would help quite a bit. If you give every type of player something to do then he/she will play more frequently. When you cater to a very specific crowd you narrow your reach and ultimately your population.
If/when Darkfall 2.0 releases it would be the perfect time to add Eve-type measures to the game. Darkfall really is a pretty unique MMO, it just lacks direction.

EVE is doing pretty damned well.
Even Darkfall is getting a nice boost in activity and population since a lot of EU players came over to the NA servers.
What does darkfall need?
1) Less grind (Skill caps, stat caps, specialization)
2) Completely redesigned n00b experience
3) Meaningful alignment system
4) Improved siege system
5) More special abilities
6) Better UI
7) More lore
8) Better quests
9) Lighting system that works
10) Better territory control
11) Deeper crafting
12) Better clan management tools
13) Better housing system
Hopefully they will address a lot of it in DF 2.0
(Uzik ibnYaraq in game. Always willing to help.)
